Due to only 3 ever being made, you’d have to craft the rifle and ammunition yourself, with the recipe probably being found in a skillbook.
You fire your .950 Rifle
You hit the zombie (923858338) damage
the zombie dies
Your arm flies off!
the .950 rifle hits the dirt hard
scratched .950 rifle is next to your arm
Okay, the recoil isn’t that terrible… The worst it can do is dislocate your shoulder.
Damn, this things should come with superarmors and there you have, human tanks.
Could you craft some shoulder-armour so that it throws you to the ground but doesn’t directly do any appreciable damage?
Get a good stand and stock, fire it properly, mabue use power armor, and death on the winds.

Your severed arm hits the zombie for 950 damage!

the hell would anyone be firing this elephant gun with another zombie behind em for?
arm hits dog
dog is damaged 56
dog dies
Instead of referencing some obscure boutique gimmick firearm, why not come up with something original to fulfill the same gameplay role?
Instead of Rivtech guns can we just have a lot of obsolete Warsaw-pact weapons and off-beat weapons from failed 1980’s machine shops?

Is that some Poe’s Law I see here?

Good call, yeah, I just don’t dig seeing examples of odd-ball gun-culture references in games like a Pancor Jackhammer or Fedorov or Gyrojet or some garbage like a .950 JDJ rifle. It’s too specific and too out of place.
I can see that. I also like the idea of inventing your own caliber…in game. We start bringing trajectory and force impacted in here… yea that’ll get Dwarf fortress in no time.
357 Magnum revolvers like Ruger SP101 or Taurus Model 66 (for fans of “The Last of Us”) and lever-action carbine in this caliber like Rossi R92.
Colt SSA-style revolver it would be a nice addition to the whole shooting arsenal in "Cataclysm"preferably in caliber 38 Special or 357 Magnum. It was really simple and reriable construction from Wild West, also produced by many manufacturers by today
It could use too hunting rifle in caliber 223 rem with a long barrel (like Browning A-Bolt or Weatherby Vanguard S2). This caliber is often used for hunting small game and pests and in the areas lying nearby built-up areas so hunting guns in this caliber should be quite common in post-apo New England.
Same rifle to shoot accurately (ie, the equivalent of shooting more than 15-20 meters), the player would have to mount scope or iron signs because most of the hunting rifles do not have installed at the factory sights .
speaking of rare guns, there is a rule here SOMEWHERE that basically says that if you cant provide an explanation to why there are so many of this gun (like actually being a variant, going into production in the future after having some defects fixed, collectors piece that is VERY rare, ect), then you just shouldn’t put it in.
M1 Garand has something of a cult following is my response to that good sir.
Design doc. We have about half a page on that.

.357/38 special carbines should be a thing. They are a little passe, but why not?
.223 hunting rifles… IRL those are mostly used out west where prairie dogs are a thing. In the East IRL you have shotgun-only states and minimum calibers for rifles, even where it’s legal the game-wardens and other hunters will sneer at anybody carrying a .223 for any reason, but in the game lore they sell landmines for hunting or something so I guess it does’nt matter.
Hunting rifles should all come with cheap scopes, I agree. Same with military weapons, optics are nearly 100% commonplace these days, even my National Guard unit had red-dots for everyone and that was years ago.
Chain-and powerweapons!
Granted, way too much warhammer 40000, but in the not-so-distant future there ought to be some countermeasures to power armours.
Chainswords and -axes though…Who wouldn’t want one of those noisy, messy and prone of getting stuck in zeds head piece of ultimate argumentors?

AHHH, THE CHAINSWORD. THE GREAT PURGING COMMUNICATOR.

PA does not have ready countermeasures because it’s not yet ready for prime time in-world: troops are deployed from trucks (or, rarely, specialized APCs) for fairly quick strikes.
