I was also thinking of some massive IED that uses a manhole cover as a tamper for a shaped charge, sitting inside a 55 gallon drum or something. I dunno, to lure a tankbot over it or something, probably overkill for anything else. Maybe it could be flipped on it’s side and the bomb smashes out in a targeted direction. For cracking bunkers or maybe smoking a hallway full of enemies.
I’m picturing such a device being rolled around in a wheelbarrel pointed at a horde or something.
I love this idea! although figuring out how to make it so it would actually simulate what would be a success in real life eludes me. the sewer lid itself seems a bit heavy to be the projectile. Perhaps it could be some sort of rudimentary weight trigger such as a stick or something that would easilly be crushed between lid and cement when run over by something as heavy as a tank, resulting in the the lid falling into its normal position which in turn triggers an rpg trap or something?
hmmm. no thinking rpg trap is most material efficient way to do it but it would need to hit the underside to be more effective than simply firing an rpg at it. Which means it needs to go in the sewer hole, not having the lid cover it up… perhaps the lid is teeter-tottered over the trip ignition or something?
Nah, I like the idea of the manhole cover being the projectile. Because man, that’d fuck something up really bad and the manhole cover needs love an item in the gameworld. But I agree it’s not very realistic, since it’s so heavy, you’d need to use a huge sewage pipe or something else improbably heavy and strong to launch it, not just a 55 gallon drum. Or the drum is buried in the ground or something.
A pressure-plate type detonator doesn’t need to be anything other then two thin sheets of metal with a styrofoam peanut sandwiched between them.
