what about a homemade claymore? learned it in my army time…
Empty ammobox, put abit of explosives along the bottom of the box, then you can fill it with what you want. Rocks, ammo casings, small metal spikes, you name it… Dig a hole, lay it down, 45* angel, Front Towards Enemy, when your target is in range you set it of. Boom, you got rocks and what not flying towards the enemy, might not be the most effective thing, but its decent “homebase” Defense
wouldn’t it be a little better to have the explosives near the top… well. I guess it doesn’t make a whole lot of difference and easier to layer it the way you mentioned… that is neat though especially if you could set it up with a tripwire
Nah, if you put the explosives at the top it explodes and kills whoever’s closest to it, if you put the explosives at the bottom it explodes and sends every nasty little thing packed in it in the direction of whoever set it off. That’s how you frag more than one enemy.

exactly… And it could be used in diffrent senarios… take a small tin can for example, stuff it with abit of explosives, and you got yourself a distraction device. Zs comeing in from the north, you got your tin can to the north-east. boom… the zs seek twoards north-east, mabye…
also makes tin cans usefull for something…
Stuff an ammobox with enough explosives and you could take out small vehicles if they are close to or driveing over the box…
We used to set it off with what we called a Shriek “Remote control thingy”, you drill a hole in the side of the box and put your detonator into the explosives, and a wire from the detonator to the Shreik, then the shriek sends out electricity or something to the detornator, and boom… i dont know much about the electric stuff so…
I ment that you are making a homemade shaped charge, so wouldn’t using the thinner bottom as direction of the blast be better, but you cans hape the charge easier to the bottom and when you set it into the dirt it reinforces the bottom anyways. So doing it like I said would be redundant and counterproductive.
You’d be surprised, with stuff like that you kinda want as much metal as you can tear through with the explosive, after all, when the IED explodes it’s going to tear the casing into fragments and send it out everywhere. With a thicker casing, more fragments will be sent towards the target.
only if the thicker casing is still the weakest point. burying it in dirt would do this but if the lid was TOO thick you’d start to lose potential damage if it was only sitting on the dirt as sideways would be the easiest escape for the heated gases from the explosion.
If you could mount a tin-can-shrapnel-charge onto a weapon and use it as an emergency shotgun that would be pretty cool, but you would need some way of reinforcing the tin-can and it would disassemble itself, and likely hurt you and the weapon regardless…
Sure, you could layer tin-cans, but that would probably require welding, at which point, why improvise? You might be able to pull it off with a lot of duct tape…
I was also thinking of some massive IED that uses a manhole cover as a tamper for a shaped charge, sitting inside a 55 gallon drum or something. I dunno, to lure a tankbot over it or something, probably overkill for anything else. Maybe it could be flipped on it’s side and the bomb smashes out in a targeted direction. For cracking bunkers or maybe smoking a hallway full of enemies.
I’m picturing such a device being rolled around in a wheelbarrel pointed at a horde or something.

I love this idea! although figuring out how to make it so it would actually simulate what would be a success in real life eludes me. the sewer lid itself seems a bit heavy to be the projectile. Perhaps it could be some sort of rudimentary weight trigger such as a stick or something that would easilly be crushed between lid and cement when run over by something as heavy as a tank, resulting in the the lid falling into its normal position which in turn triggers an rpg trap or something?
hmmm. no thinking rpg trap is most material efficient way to do it but it would need to hit the underside to be more effective than simply firing an rpg at it. Which means it needs to go in the sewer hole, not having the lid cover it up… perhaps the lid is teeter-tottered over the trip ignition or something?

Nah, I like the idea of the manhole cover being the projectile. Because man, that’d fuck something up really bad and the manhole cover needs love an item in the gameworld. But I agree it’s not very realistic, since it’s so heavy, you’d need to use a huge sewage pipe or something else improbably heavy and strong to launch it, not just a 55 gallon drum. Or the drum is buried in the ground or something.
A pressure-plate type detonator doesn’t need to be anything other then two thin sheets of metal with a styrofoam peanut sandwiched between them.
Well you could do it like spiked-pit traps, except have the hole filled up to be traversable, but if the trigger event happens, be that a certain weight occupying a certain tile, or a radio signal being sent, or a certain temperature being attained, or whatever… the hole explodes and takes the surrounding terrain with it.
On that note, does anyone know why the term improvised explosive device became popular? It has always sort of stumped me…
An IED can be many things, from your basic tincan with explosives, to say 4-5 155mm art grenades with explosives straped to em.
I think the term IED has been around for sometime now, its just become more known since Iraq, Afghanistan… Hell russian troops straped explosives to dogs in WW2, throwing meat under german tanks, you know the rest…
I’m no expert on this at all, i just had 3 years in the army, with 6 months overseas, i was an engineer, i’w seen IEDs… nasty stuff, cleverly made some off em thou, compared to what they had to work with…
Lets hope ISIS gets whats coming to em sooner rather than later, from what I hear they now have Anonymous, Japan, and Canada hating their guts right now.
[quote=“Litppunk, post:778, topic:2160”]your a soldier?
Thank you.

I was, its years ago now and off-topic
as for ISIS, no one likes them, even al-q and taleba don’t like them, says alittle about them right there…but again, thats off-topic in this post…
true sorry, maybe we will bring that topic back up somewhere else. What about some floating laser drones? follow you around, randomly orbiting, and floating around above your head, and shoot all the bad guys that get to close. Has better vision than you, but only because it can see over some obstacles, and makes a little beep anytime it detects an enemy? (would show up in the info log) *laser drone makes a beep, and a little red light blinks (NW) Also you can use PDA, or maybe a more specialized tablet to get its view. When it runs out of batteries its as useful as a dead eyebot though untill its recharged. Unless it has solar panels, in which case its going to be a while before it can shoot again when it gets that low. most of the stuff needed for this is already there too. Its just a turret that floats above your head and can be modded, which if I am not mistaken other turrets can to. Naturally parts for this would be rare.
