I wrote this a couple months ago. Nearly forgot about it.
As he drifted off to sleep
Old memories began to resurface
From a time past, horrid tales of fright
When he closed his eyes he could see it
His father standing in robes of white
He raised his head to see
Furrowed brow, he asked
"Where have you taken me?"
His father took his hand, looked him in the eye
"A place where nothing is forgotten."
“A place where memories never die.”
His father pointed to the north
A woman dressed in black
Holding a leather whip, she lashed at a helpless man’s back
“Over there, do you see?”
“This was your lover.” He explained
As the poor man wept in agony
“What did she ever do?”
“Do you remember how you always hit her?”
“This is the reason why she left you.”
His father pointed to the east
Sat upon a wooden chair, old and rotten
A drunken man, drinking away his sorrows
"This was your best friend, or have you forgotten?"
“You left the bar, knowing he was intoxicated.”
“He asked for the keys, you felt foolishly obligated.”
His father pointed to the south
"Neglected and flout."
“A little puppy was it once.”
“Your least favorite pet, without a doubt.”
His father pointed to the west
Lay dead his mother, upon the stone
"You were not present at her final farewell.“
His face dashed with remorse, his heart filled with regret
Not a word was spoken, but in his face you could tell
"Your wreckless actions were the fuse to the bomb, the fish to the hook.”
“A poor-hearted woman, one call was all it took.”
His father pointed directly at him
"You are all of these things."
“You pushed them away.”
“You are alone.”
He awoke from his sleep, visibly shaken
Filled with deep pain, unable to function
By sunrise, he had taken his own life
Cut short by the sharp edge of a rusty knife
There was nobody left for him in this waking land
Not a single person. No one in sight
He had no reason left to live
He had no reason left to fight
I usually keep things like this to myself, but oh well. lol
