It was fairly possible in the beginning, but then that whole “You can make your own effects in mods now” thing got released and now my limited, practically non-existent knowledge of code, combine with failing to schedule my time properly is making it impossible for me to work on this to the scale I’ve promised…

I don’t see what makes you think you can’t. The Make Your Own Effect is for things tht affect the player, like infections? It’s not for new attacks and stuff! So it’s basically the same.

Hey, you can, alright? Never say you can’t!

…That would explain why I can’t make it work.
Well, that means you got to work with the tools you already have! It’s not like you will become a coder a day. (some coder back me up here)
I’m fully aware of that XD But believe it or not, I’m not a coder, my “talent” if I can call it that, is in art. XD …just haven’t been using any of my work here lately XD
Let’s do this: let’s post some drawings, check some code, and nail this!
I’d love to, but I’ve got work tonight XD
Your priorities are putting your job ahead of your hobby. Ehh, if this isn’t the mature move I gotta re-learn a thing or two! XD
My approach to coding is that I took a C++ class back in like, 2005, and I can make rough guesses at what a chunk of code is doing. I never write code from scratch, I don’t know how. I copy what works most similar to what I want, and tactically break each piece to learn vague things. Any code I produce will be a collage crafted using the rest of the game’s code as a reference dictionary.
Pray I do not become a contributor. None of my work will be optimized, and will operate like a hummer painted an exceptionally ugly colour. Probably boomer-bile magenta.
I’m gonna go make a copy of mi-go’s speech.json and change all the chatter to my own dialogue, just to get that done. Should be tedious rather than complex.
Not really, it’s leading to crippling depression and my spending the day before my shift laying in bed
Oh jeeze, I’m sorry.
I’ve gone and spent my evening cleaning my aquarium so I don’t lose any more fish, and just a little too long on this .json file. I’m doing the fun things instead of researching for my history paper and it’s just eating up what fun the fun things should be providing. Damned if we do, damned if we don’t. You’d think after nearly completing a psychology degree I’d have good advice or something, but all I’ve really learned is that I’m really good at understanding, but really bad at helping.
At least when the file is done it’s something you can work with whenever the heck you feel like. I don’t exactly operate any faster than ‘stuff takes me months or years’ so rushing or sense of obligation is not required. I’ll plop a dropbox link or something here.
You should get Notepad Plus Plus, wich let’s you change all the NPC tags to the one you want.
Already got it! “mon_mi_go” is now “mon_edmundh”.
I assume that’s some short name for the mi-go’s monster file that calls for this text occasionally, or something. So I guess edmund monsters will have to use the one I defined else this one will need to match whatever ekarus writes. Or whoever decides to have a go at this, really. I’m just making a speech file available.

Hostile!
It is uninjured.
An average if noodly survivor wearing a strange looking jacket and an abundantly pink ballcap on their head. Aw man, the noodly ones always turn out to be really dangerous for some reason, you just know it. It’s those eyes, man. Actually, it’s probably the machete. Definitely the machete.
Also I edited my last post to include a whole ton of stupid dialogue.
I must have missed this when you posted it, sorry. I just wanted to thank you for coming up with a description.
Dont worry Ekarus its not like anyone of us has never left an internet project abandoned. I myself can name 3 (oh no wait uh-mm seven) projects in this very forum that I will probably never work on again. And I rather not count the ones in other forums…
To be honest it was a pretty silly description, and not exactly flattering…
Then again I’m described as vegan-friendly, so what do I know?
I am going to continue thinking Tegaki-e is not a website and that I do not have a ton of unfinished art replies on that thing. Then I am going to pretend like December 1st is further away than it is, so I don’t freak out about projects I’m not even in ‘abandoned’ territory for yet.

I just feel bad because I keep saying I’m gonna do all kinds of wonderful things aaaaaaaaaand then I don’t.
Everybody should get notepad++, it lets you open multiple txt files in tabs instead of window clutter.
And it keeps the indentation format whenever I copy-paste anything from IRC. Or at least, it did when I used to use IRC.
Just generally more legible in how it highlights words and such in code, but in regular text too. I likey.
It is shockingly difficult to break the game intentionally and in a controlled manner.
I’ll just do a crazed, cannibalistic version of my main dude.
@
Pan
A slightly short humanoid with a short snout, stubbed tail and velociraptor-esque legs, feet and hands. The humanoid is wearing what appears to be homemade kevlar and leather armor, with its gloves and boots ending snugly at the beginning of its talons. It’s wearing a grimy dark green Paddy’s Pub hoodie with a sleeveless armored trenchcoat on top. A large, armored duffle bag clinks as it moves, as if it were full of glass bottles. Through the glass lenses of its makeshift gasmask, you can see that the humanoid looks at you with calculating eyes as it flicks a lighter.
If you can’t make this mofo throw molotovs, which is a bummer, then that last bit can be replaced with “…the humanoid looks at you with calculating eyes as it twirls a modified broadsword.”
Will track the player and eventually turn hostile by throwing molotovs/charging at you with a broadsword. Has relatively low HP, but a very powerful melee attack. The NPC will occasionally shout “Creep never tasted so good!”, “You think I survived this long to go down like this?” or “You don’t see any spitters around here, do ya?”
Upon death, will drop random survivor clothing, a number of molotovs and misc alcohol as well as a firebrand. If butchered, can drop 1 or 2 high level CBMs.
I-if you want to add me, that is…
I don’t like telling people not to worry about things*, but for what it’s worth, you have no disappointment or disapproval coming from me.
I wrote up a description more because it was funny to write up than because I wanted a self-representation in the game, I know some aspects of it would be uh, tricky to implement**, but if it doesn’t happen, no big deal.
I started on probably dozens of programming projects over the years that never amounted to much before latching onto cataclysm, then it clicked somehow and shortly afterwards exploded into awesomeness. Success isn’t making everything work, it’s trying things until you find success.
*Who am I to tell other people what they should be worrying about?
**Not the reality annihilator though, that just needs to be a iuse method that does “player / 0” or something.
