Day 8. I’m fairly well off, if I do say so myself.

Any other survivors you run into might get a bit of a shock with you running around topless like that…
Heh, she has a scarf though.
I think that they’d be more afraid of my countless mutations, to be honest.
I’m fairly confident that some Japanese people would be into that.
Stockpiling enough guns, ammo and explosives to equip a small army.
If the world ever settles down and people start to gather under a ruler that is not me I will be more than able to supply La Résistance with nearly anything they could need.

I like you. You can stay. (Welcome to the forums!)
I had one of the most intense nights of Cataclysm ever!
I started a new character who should have unarmed as his main skill but with only 7 strength and capoeira as his fighting style.
Starting off as a shower victim, I was glad that the evac shelter’s basement was filled with food, clothing and tools so most of the basic looting was done. However, I wanted to craft brass knuckles as soon as possible since the 7 strength result in low damage and the nail knuckles tend to get stuck a lot.
So, 2by shinguards on, I waited until night time and made my first trip to the outskirts of the city. I did not even enter the first house and my torso got bitten and infected.
2 attempts of cauterizing failed and in great pain the inffection kicked in - no first aid, no desinfectant but increasing pain and a horde of zombies behind me. I ran out of the city, turned a flashlight on in hopes of finding a group of dead scientists but instead I ran into an ant hill. The pain slowed me down THAT much, that the ants were just following me where ever I ran.
So I decided to get rid of them by locking them into the evac shelter that has, in the meantime, been occupied by a bear.
After a sprint through the shelter and some epic bear dodging and I turned my base into a zoo. The wound was still hurting and I headed north: Just to run into a FEMA camp. I lost the zombie soldiers in the woods and found my final destination:
A sewage treatment. Heavily wounded, wet from the rain and the infection hurting like hell I found my tomb and sprayed “REMEMBER ME!” onto the ground in the first section of the sewage treatment. I entered the big room with the counters on the right and there were two items lying on the counters: A pipe and… a first aid kit. I crawled in pain and managed to clean and desinfect the wound as the first beams of the sunrise promised another day of life.
THAT WAS INTENSE! Not having any means of cleaning a wound early game always turns into a sick race of life and death!
day 1, 12:30 PM, 19C Sunny outside - Influenza. Really game ?
Led a horde to gun store. They were kind enough to wait outside for me as I grabbed a SIG Pro .40 and about 100 rounds of ammo, including some 10mm Auto (which the gun can apparently fire as .40 S&W is just a shorter version of that). All the way home, I only fired 2 of those rounds at some feral hunters that were quicker than me; I pretty much outran the horde.
Seems fine to me. There really isn’t much of a link between crap weather and getting a cold or flu virus.
I’m more curious about where the hell you pick it up from. Unless zombies still carry viruses.
can one pick it off a dead body? and have it at it’s worst in a few minutes? Or maybe my char was sick before i started the game. Which begs for a horde of new questions
Found my first clairvoyance artifact and a Probability Travel bionic. In between the two, raiding hospitals and prisons is so much fun. Ghosting between rooms, picking off zombies one by one, it feels more like you’re the slasher movie monster.
Pity I didn’t have an optical camo cloak to complete the package. I know zombies could probably track by smell at that range, and it’d be redundant with everything else, but it’s the thought that counts.
hah, actually you walking through the wall is going to confuse the crap out of the scent code. I’m ok with that.
So, I’ve been having a helluva time as of late,
So, starting off, I decided to tweak the world engine thanks to the new improvements with 1.2 spawn and increased the city size just a tad. It’s rather amazing just how many more zombies you have to wade through with that little increase.
After just bouncing around a few houses and a few more hordes, I have BOTH legs broken, crawl back to the bunker and splint them up, thankfully having a small stockpile of food/water to wait it out until I’m healed. After about 2 weeks manage to heal, only to know the joy of a wolf pack literally nipping at my heals, break my legs, again, to blood loss of all things, heal up again, and, thanks to wolves again, break a leg yet again, this time at a house on the city outskirts that I chose to use as my base.
there is no nearby hospital during this time.
this is month 1 and 2.
I stumbled across an RV with a good engine and intact RV unit, along with a semi nearby with all it’s wheels intact ^^.
pawnshop - broadsword !!
Thanks to mechanics and fabrication, eventually whip up a vehicle welder, electric forge, and find a food cart with a mini-Fridge(!), sadly, even with power doesn’t work as intended, as far as I can tell at least. Install everything, steel plated the heck out of it when I learned that a vehicle welder plus even 1 solar panel = infinite power. Later on converted to Hard plating when I tested if you can disassemble steel frames, also was dissatisfied with the protection regular plating offers.
found a small quad that I appropriated at a garage for gathering supplies.
First Lab I find is close enough to a Fungal spire that there’s a bunch of Fungaloids around, so converted the quad by adding a 3 x 9 plow to the front, ram my way through everything, including the fungal spire.
Eventually I give up the area as a lost cause and go about my business in the Lab, get map from console, find new lab, repeat. found lots of military outposts and bunkers this way too.
For the first time ever found an LMOE shelter. Between the massive forest surrounding it and the Triffid groves and Fungal spires around it, decide it’s a better place to visit and not stay.
and, for giggles, played mutagen roulette, and decided, after about 30 doses and various attempts with purifier, to stick it out with Gills, leg tentacles, and no deficiencies. I consider myself lucky on this front given I didn’t take robust genetics.
I’m 3 years in at this point, I suspect old age is the only thing that’ll kill this character.
As an aside, did the police robots get turned off? I’ve been itching to go a slaying for some super alloy plate to finish the CBM armoring and I’ve yet to set off an alarm to summon them.
Been playing Cataclysm DDA on and off now for a couple of months. Downloaded 0.9 yesterday and wow. Dead military guys outside my starting shelter, a LMOE-shelter not far from it, and a Mansion quite close too.
Closely grouped. At the LMOE right now. Up to the North-West (past the anthill) are a Hotel Parking, a House and a Cathedral. Got a bag cart from the Hotel, so there’s at least that. :<
My best gear so far. I hope that chewing tobacco works with nicotine addiction. Heh… Heh.
Note that those pictures are taken on the evening of Day 3. Has it become a lot easier or is the game just giving me a big sloppy kiss for coming back?
It’s just your luck having all those right out of the gate. Also, those pictures are too small to be readable.
My beloved car which I named “Mayara” sank in the river when I tried hand-braking at 200+ mph ramming zombies on my way. I found another car, named it “Jynx”. Then I stumbled upon an ambulance and decided to ditch “Jynx” and stick with it.
my last 3 chars died in the first 2 days. Mainly because i reduced item spawn to 0.1 and raised creatures spawn to 2 and city size to 10, while playing random chars. But damn, am i having fun or what ! Using every trick and exploit i can think of, and praying to random gods like never before. I wouldn’t have imagined the most useful item would be a lighter
