Vehicle Show and Tell

It’s not bad.
It’s not bad.
Care to elaborate? I mean, it’s not worse than steel, but given how much harder it is to get I’d expect it to be noticeably better, which… maybe saving 40 kg on a 2000kg vehicle is more valuable than I think somehow?

Might as well use steel just because it’s way more common. Sure you can save the one piece of super alloy you find wherever buuuuuuut, eeeeeeeeeeeh… nah.
Plus, you can use steel to make more interesting armor.

For me, I take a normal box truck, fix it up, chuck a big altenator on it and fill if full of gas, I then add about a half dozen storage batts and some solar panels mostly for chuckles. By the time I want to change over to electric, ive picked up a full set of upgraded solar panels and maybe a quantum or 2. But realistically the way the game is now petrol>solar.

Its not great as car armor, I grab all I can for CBMs though.

I have this idea when it comes to electric cars. A small backup combustion engine/generator to help keep those batteries charged up after a long drive. Problem being that you probably can’t start up engines separately.

You can’t start/stop engines separately, I keep meaning to fix that.
Cameras will happen at some point for sure, you’ll just need LOS to the monitor.
Why not just protect your mirrors? something like:

/o--o\
m|""|m
+##+
+##+
|HH|
o++o

With the / and \ being a frame/board of some kind for protection, and the m’s being mirrors.
Though now that I look at it they look like hands, oh god! I turned the car into a zombie! run!

Right so I’ve just gotten to the vehicle building stage, took me forever to find some welders, but I was lucky enough to find a sports car and two motor cycles that were in working order. Currently I’ve modded one of the motor cycles into this configuration:

       o
       ^ < got a pretty efficient .92 liter V-twin engine
o#o < The side and rear wheels all have boxes over them for a decent amount of storage
       o

Essentially this is a motor cycle with two side cars, not the most powerful vehicle design out there, or the fastest, but it gets the job done for short range recon and looting. The low liter capacity on the engine gresatly limits it’s top speed, but it’s also super efficient. Now it’s time to see what can be done with that sports car…

Trunks>Boxes. Upgrade.

this is just something i whipped up to go around the local area at a fairly nice speed without having to worry about getting hit with anything, it works out well save for the fact i never put a muffler on it so i go deaf as soon as i start accelerating the thing XD

Why can cars go over 500 mph? That way to fast…

They want to become planes

Because they want to go over land mines before you see them.

Why can cars go over 500 mph? That way to fast...

Because, with all the resources up and about the game, you are to build a heavily armored Batmobile, not your sister’s moped.
:)))

And because its about 1/3 of a ton with a engine designed for use in semis.
(semis are normally about 4-5 tons, even without load)

I just use the smallest engine I can that still gives me a reasonable top speed and acceleration. I only stack engines if the acceleration is too low. Low acceleration can mean death when mobbed, or stuck on some bushes.

Another design, I call it a Craftoscooter. Sit in it and craft. Stereo + music CD = infinite good mood. Pity you can’t read in it too, could really help with all these pesky highlevel research logs and SICP.

Currently I’m rocking a food cart. I’m planning on building a few steel frames and slapping an engine onto it though. From there who knows how the food cart will develop. Ill probably slap a trunk on it.

Well sure you can read in it. Just don’t hold the controls while doing it. Leave the engine/music running.

Behold, the GFM!

Made primarily from two APCs welded together, it has the following features and more:

[ul][li]Double hull composed of heavy duty frames and military composite armor[/li]
[li]Eight improved, eight regular, and one quantum solar panel.[/li]
[li]High visibility cockpit with complete field-of-view headlight coverage(still gathering enough materials to make it fully composed of reinforced glass rather than part glass, part quarterpanel)[/li]
[li]Twin mounted M2 Browning machineguns, currently with 120 rounds each (very rarely used)[/li]
[li]A floor composed entirely of storage batteries[/li]
[li]All the amenities required for the post-apocalyptic go-getter, including a kitchen unit/buddy, forge rig, recharger, minifridge, stereo and welder.[/li]
[li]Spiked, armored battering ram.[/li][/ul]

The engine is nothing spectacular, but i’m going more for fuel efficiency than speed, and i’m unwilling to drive faster than 70kph under any circumstances anyway. There’s simply no need that i’ve yet encountered. It can already disintegrate a bear at 45kph.

Note that the two externally mounted 55 gallon drums on the rear are kept empty at all times, and are purely there to be detached for gathering water. The external fuel tanks on the default APC actually make it one of the most vulnerable vehicles in the base game, as the slightest tap can cause the entire thing to blow to pieces.

Oh, hell. You should have seen the original APC. Green armored school bus with four external tanks. Fill 'em up, pop a bomb in the back, and it’d turn entire map tiles into raging infernos.
