Hey all,
First off, if anyone wants more music- whether you have some concept of what you’d like to hear or not, please shoot me a PM or post here. I’m by no means out of ideas, but I do want to keep you guys involved in the process.

@KA101- I’m only giving GG the original files for now.
Although I guess it wouldn’t really matter… Yeah, I’ll consider putting up the DL.
Also, the names of the sections weren’t really meant for anything other than atmospheric effect.
So no, not necessarily a lab theme (though hearing bits and pieces of that while exploring a lab would be pretty cool, IMHO).

And that fourth track was probably my favorite as well.
Either that or the first theme could be the title menu piece.
I think they’d both fit pretty well… and, if requested, I can write a ton more.

Maybe my two submissions could be added into the starting post? I’m also working on another ambient track.

Found that the XCOM Apocalypse soundtrack works really well with DDA. It being cataclysm themed and all.
Give the first few tracks a listen and you’ll probably see what I mean.

god damn brilliant music ! Yet, except for the first part (until1.30) it doesn’t exactly fit somewhere specific. Second and third part somehow make me think of Kerbal Space Program, when you leave atmosphere and go into space.
Now, back to first part, it’s excellent as an exploring theme and prequel to fight. I was kinda disappointed when it ended at 1:30, it had so much promise :slight_smile:

Second: Labs (some electrical beep boop sounds will be toned down, btw)
Third: Also Labs, but maybe lower level?

Next I’ll make three or four combat variations. Then I’ll see if there’s still lust for more tracks of mine. :slight_smile:

The lab ones are particularly fitting. I agree on toning down the beeps. And maybe some boops.

It lacks some brief hints of the stutter of SHODAN in the background, though.

Instead of voting on one “song”, I think we should add quite a lot of them from different authors- and play them at different times.

Spookypen: Play randomly as ambience. Stunningly beautiful!

Graham (2): Dawn music, after the first week has passed. Only applies if you’re on the first Z-level (so not in a mine, lab, etc)
Graham (3): Long haul- on a moving vehicle for more than 5 in-game minutes without seeing a zombie. Only happens once per day!
Graham (5): LMOE Shelter, cabin, bottom of nuclear silo

Justin Healy: Played if you have a friendly dog within 50 tiles of you when you wake up from sleep. Ignores graham2 if it’s the case.

Science Lab Funeral: Going down the first stairs in the lab, to going down the third set of stairs. If the finale is before then, Disarray4 plays on that floor.

Rev6: Ambience in autumn and winter.

djrodw: Finale is reached- plays until you exit the lab. IIRC when you reach the finale, tons of enemies spawn.

Disarray 1: Spiral Cavern… or maybe just when you find an artifact. I hope people implement the Spiral Cavern sometime though!
Disarray 2: Entering a school or FEMA camp.
Disarray 3: Plays when midnight comes and you’re awake, or the end of every season.
Disarray 4: Level 3 to finale, and if the finale is on floor 3 or 2 it plays there instead of Funeral.

Marius Piece1: MINE FINALE!!! Also, as you intended, cataclysm theme. Maybe it would work well on the title screen?
Marius Piece2: Other parts of the mine. Reminds me so much of HL2, except creepier… mines are fucking creepy.
Marius ambient1: YES. Entering a swamp should be this terrifying. Gets tribal later, if you somehow survive that long.
Marius ambient2: Labs can go to, like, level -6. If you get to -5 or below (in any method), PLAY THIS SHIT.
Marius ambient3: Strange Temple, or when you see a flaming eye, or otherwise get “otherworldly attention/feel watched”

I managed to fit in most of these- some of Graham Lloyd’s didn’t seem fit completely though. These are just my opinions- if the authors of any of these don’t want them where I recommend them, they don’t have to go there!

You’re all brilliant musicians though, and I applaud your awesome effort.

Here’s some my contributations.

The Horde!: This is for when you’re being chased by the undead in a town. I might make specific tracks for being attacked by animals, stuck in a hostile swamp, etc.
The Town: This is for when you’re wandering around town, and no zombies are around. Everything’s very quiet, and nobody’s around.

Dream segment, go!

You’re in some shit. You can keep the horde at bay but you can’t move. You’re pinned! You need help.
You’ve got friends. A lot of friend. You’ve got a camp. A big camp. You call them on your radio. They’re coming.

WOW… Fniff, those are brilliant. I mean, I reckon those are the best for Cataclysm. Because too be honest, although everyone else’s are very good, they are a little too heavy for an ASCII game. Your music is amazingly good. Especially the first one.
The Town, however, is a little too repetitive, to be honest, but it has the right mood and feel for the game.

Thanks! I was concentrating on just making pieces that would fit in the game, as I tried making a “cataclysm main theme”, but that didn’t really fit. I listen to a lot of videogame music, so I try to aim for “non-intrusive” because the best videogame music (for me) is the type that is doing it’s job of creating a mood while staying light. I agree the Town’s a little repetitive, so I might make a second version that has a bit more interesting things going on.

Slax, none of your posts are appropriate for this thread. This is not a general music discussion thread. Please stop.

Just trying to give my input on what would do well in the game.

Yeah, I was about to call you out as well, Slax. We can’t use other videogame’s music. I think there’s a thread for “music you listen to while playing Cataclysm” but this is for Music Proposal Discussion!
