There is now SDL version too, that should work on Linux with minimal changes.
Secondly, I don't like some of the implemented changes - primarily the aiming mechanics, the profile, the square font, a few other small things.
You prefer distorted view? That’s unbelievable to me as if you told me you like to eat sand. But you know that’s just a setting you can change, there is no need to dislike it. Just set it any way you like and feel free to torture your eyes and mind with any kind of terribly skewed and unnatural geometry you wish.
Third, it lags behind the main dev version in changes, which is what I usually use.
I’d say it’s the other way around, that you are behind not only for all the bugs I already fixed, but also for all the new bugs that have been made in the meantime.
Finally, and this is probably the most important bit... a lot of the changes are nice, but ultimately don't change the game that much. I really want things like jumping to play an enjoyable role in the experience, and they... don't. So while I could use your version, the actual reasons to do so are not terribly strong.
Jumping needs specially designed levels to make use of it’s full potential, but it can be pretty useful in everyday situations too. You can jump over fences or through a window without incurring speed penalty, for example, and sometimes that can make a difference between life and death. Kick/push is even more useful, especially if you are getting surrounded, and then if you use it wisely it can save your life from what was previously inescapable situation. But the best of all I think is new targeting system, it makes the whole game at least 100x more interesting for me, especially with chain-kills. It’s tactical, it requires of you to think and plan in advance, it’s a perfect fit for this game, makes total sense and provides very entertaining challenge. I’d say those are rather huge and important changes, if it wasn’t for the new targeting system I think I would have stopped playing and working on this mod quite some time ago.

And this will be the one I'll be playing. Like I said, I haven't had the chance to really play with your push system, so hopefully next time I try it works pretty well sdl-wise too. I'll let you know if there are any problems.
I do agree the shooting changes things (just don’t like it much), you’re right in that the jumping has potential but right now the things you named aren’t really “things that would convince someone to switch versions” sort of things, and haven’t used the pushing/kicking yet.
Roguelikes don’t need noise.
Sometimes silence is golden and part of the fun of roguelikes is using your imagination to fill in those blanks anyway.
Nonsense. You can invoke feelings of tension, suspense and even emotions with music alone. It can not be substituted by imagination as the graphics can, it’s completely different thing. It can and does enrich visual media, just like sound movies are better than silent movies.
If you don’t like it, don’t play it. What do you want? What are you doing here in this thread when you haven’t even tried this mod?
Trying really hard to justify your prejudice, it’s so apparent it’s funny. Font size is just a settings that can be changed. Bug reports tells me maps are actually disappearing in the main build. And if you prefer constant glitches when moving near map borders that’s fine with me. Enjoy it.
Well, you mentioned you were on Linux and that you like to tweak the source, so I logically assumed that meant you were familiar with git. The git init command creates an empty repository, then you can git push to whatever public repo host you usually prefer. (Bitbucket, Gitorious, GitHub, etc.)
You ask for people’s opinions, you get them.
You ask why people aren’t playing, they tell you.
Please do not take this the wrong way, but it’s very easy to come off sounding mean when you’re limited to text bereft of the nuances of direct face-to-face conversation.
Perhaps everyone should choose their words more carefully, and stop and think really hard about how they will sound before pressing that ‘submit’ button.
Ad hominem and incorrect.
Just because someone disagrees with you, that does not automatically make them wrong.
What I said is neither ad hominem nor is incorrect. It’s a logical causality and a fact by virtue of being dictionary definition.
Feci quod potui, faciant meliora potentes; opuseris.
No, you’ve done nothing but inappropriately expressed your prejudice. That doesn’t even count as right or wrong, it’s not even an opinion.
I was going to try out rev.49b later today when I have some free time so I downloaded it now, however after I unzipped it my antivirus promptly deleted (quarantined?) the executable files. I’m guessing it’s a false positive but I thought I’d report it anyways, I’ll be back on later to test the actual game out, keep up the good work.
I… don’t understand what that has to do with… you know what, nevermind. It’s not actually important enough to deal with the headache I’m sure this conversation would turn into. >_<

Nearly perfect, but obvious to someone that’s around ESL most of the day. Look closer.
It claims that both the executable files are trojans.
Aside from the music which I’m not a big fan of (after listening to it for several hours), the new mechanics added are nice, I particularly enjoy the change to firearms after I got used to it, and the driving window offset, jumping could have more uses though, maybe add roof access to more buildings, stairs, ladders, etc.
I haven’t played the latest few versions but I look forward to trying out the new changes, especially functional NPCs and wildlife taming.

What’s the difference between having english as a second language and simply having bad grammar? It’s not exactly uncommon on the internet…

What did it say, that it was virus or something else? If you try some version before the latest one let me know how did that go.
Only 1 out of 45 total, and AntiVir has higher heuristics than many others, which is probably why it complained.

Agreed. Your complaint was that he didn’t have a public repo, and I was saying there’s no reason why you can’t make one and benefit from it.
I don’t like the changes to character generation and I don’t like your stripping down of options because ‘you’re a minimalist’. I could work around those changes, but that’s not the point; you made them due to personal preference and won’t listen to anyone who doesn’t like them.
The reason should be obvious enough. You’re the dev. If I were going to playtest your build for you and provide feedback, I would end up arguing with you over everything because you refuse to acknowledge that any decision you’ve made might not be a good one. People say they don’t like the aesthetic changes you’ve made to the game and you basically insult them. I’d have to find my own workarounds for all the features I don’t like, because it would be impossible to convince you that they weren’t good additions. I have no interest in any of this. Take that for what you will - I’m not pulling any punches, your attitude as a developer is a major roadblock to people trying your work. If you want to victimise yourself and call it prejudice then fine, but it’s a just completely natural response to the acerbic attitude you project.
His point wasn’t the grammar, it was the contents of the post. He was arguing with someone over aesthetics and deliberately insulting their aesthetic preferences. It has nothing to do with speaking English natively or not. I’ve had plenty of friends who weren’t native English speakers that weren’t rude in the slightest.
If the territory explored on a map is “erased” when I go to a new map then is a big problem for me… because I like to play as an explorer, I can explore many maps in quite some time, aboard my vehicle, that was one of the features that I liked from the beginning of Cataclysm, unfortunately, each new Rev. MGS changes are becoming less enjoyable for me, sorry for that.
