Kick/push away furniture, push monsters with furniture
Kick/push monsters into fire, in a hole, through window…
…or slam them against the wall for extra damage
Kicked bench, which kicked monster, who then flew through the window.
Kicking looks cool, but is there a way to balance it? I’d hate to fend off a horde of 80 hulks by just kicking them into walls as soon as they get next to me.
It doesn’t do much damage, it’s more “push away” type of thing. How far can you push a monster depends on your current strength, melee skill and size of the monster, so pushing hulk away is not easy and unless you manage to push it into a fire, down a hole, or through a window, it will not help you much.
With strength 10 and melee skill of 10 you can sometimes push normal zombies 3 and more tiles away. If you kick/push furniture that can not move in the direction you pushed it you will smash it instead. You can also kick a wall to make noise, and break doors/windows with it, in which case it’s slightly more effective than normal bashing with bare hands.
This build has passed my ultimate test now. Killed all those monsters and along the way I didn’t see anything I want to change or improve any more. It runs great, no glitches, no crashes, fun with NPCs… and that’s it. I don’t think I’ll work on it much longer, so the next release might very well be the final. If anyone wants any more features or whatever, now is the time to tell me about it.
Is it intended that we can ONLY play as Snake? Trying to create a new character is impossible for some reason. The menu defaults to template -> old snake and it is impossible to back out and go to the new character menu.
In addition, deleting that one template renders the game unplayable.

Yeah, it’s intended, it’s Metal Gear Solid mod after all. There were supposed to be other characters from Metal Gear, like Cyborg Ninja, Revolver Ocelot, Vulcan Raven, Sniper Wolf, Psycho Mantis, Big Boss… but no one made them, and I’m too lazy.
Anyway, is it really important for you to be able to create your own character, or is there something in particular you don’t like about Old Snake? In any case you can change character attributes and everything before you start the game. Just go back through the tabs and edit whatever you like, including the name. And then you can save your character.
…Why are you limiting people to one character template?
That’s not…

YES IT IS LAZYCAT THAT IS A FUN PART OF THE GAME[/quote]
This.
If people want to play as Snake, then that’s fine. But if you limit people who don’t, then you are effectively undermining one of the basic ideas of a roguelike, and will drive people away from an otherwise fun mod.
Artificial limitations to gameplay are never a good idea, regardless of the reasoning behind them.
EDIT: How do you empty containers in your inventory?
Json files are supposed to be easy way to add items and stuff even without compiling, or at least that’s the direction main build is going. I wouldn’t be doing anything of that kind, just polishing what’s already in from now on. I have to draw a line somewhere, otherwise adding new stuff could go on forever, and I already played this game more than I really wanted to. So now I’m just trying to make it as complete as possible before I loose the rest of my motivation.

I believe I said you actually can create your own character, by simply editing Old Snake character. You can empty containers with (U)nload. Go to inventory, select your container and unload it, or wield it and press ‘U’. Is that not how vanilla build works any more?
That option is more like cheating. If you want more points it would throw the game out of balance and make it less interesting. If you want less points, tell me a good reason and I could make it so you don’t have to use all points to start the game. But if there will be high scores then points must be the same in order to be fair competition.
I’m giving up of making any missions, don’t have any more strength to play-test it any more. So I was thinking to make the end of the game when you fill three rows of killed monsters on that “kill count” list, with time bonus the quicker you are, and repeat that four times, once in every season… plus some bonus/boss final stage involving Metal Gear vehicle.
Basically, kill (almost) one of each type of monster as fast as possible and then advance to next season to do the same thing. Then when you went through all four seasons the game ends and calculates your scores. Scores can then be uploaded on-line to compel people to compete for the “top survivor”, or something among those lines. How does that sound?
By the way, fixed that bug. Nothing was unloading, it’s only a bug in the latest build (41). Thanks for reporting, let me know if you find some more. Also if you manage to find some interesting new ways to use kick/punch action that would be nice. Since the last release I made it possible to kick/push while aiming/shooting without resetting aim position, and with skilful enough push it’s now possible to stun monsters. That might make room for some interesting new tactics and innovative use that new action.
If you’re not going to allow basic freedom in creating characters, then I will no longer play the mod and I’m sure others feel the same way. I have no problem playing DinoCataclysm and vanilla Cataclysm.
