Yay way to go Galen !
None of the tileset changes should break save-game compatibility. However, it will be merged into the experimental and there’s any of other things that COULD break said compatibility that might get merged in separately so… maybe. Probably depends on how old your current version is.
Well I’m sure MY current version is far too old. I was just wondering if it would be worth starting to play a DDA version now while I wait for the tileset. Maybe not if it will be ready that soon.
Will the the tile support be in the experimental builds before the official release of 0.8?
You have a few days before it starts getting merged in, so you should be safe starting up a new game, playing that to completion, then updating after tile support is integrated and you lose your character
The current plan is to merge tilesets once it’s ready, call a feature freeze, and concentrate on intense bugfixing for about a week. This also gives the translation projects time to catch up since with a feature freeze we shouldn’t be moving strings around as much.
At the end of this, we’ll hopefully have a very stable 0.8 release with tilesets, several of the translations packaged, and of course the thousand or so other changes that have happened since 0.7.1 (seriously, the current count is 913, my flabber is well and truly gasted)
I for one am hoping that the “pain weakens you” feature will be nerfed, because it’s utterly destroying me and there are seemingly no painkillers in my game. Anywhere. Not much food either.
Aspirin…? It’s incredibly common in houses, you just have to know where to look.
Never had much trouble with pain, even at like 40-60 pain levels. The game is still easy even with that much pain.
You might wanna check how you created your character and redo things. Like for one, stats are largely more important than skills themselves as they cannot be trained. Make sure you have at least 10 in each stats, int and per can be adjusted to 8 i you dont mind your character being stupidly bad at aiming with guns (per) or too dumb to use certain books and learn stuff way slower (int).
If you plan on using melee weapons, 12-14 str is recommended, dex is also good now so 10-12 dex. If youre doing guns, perception until the penalty is 0 and as much dex as you can get with at least 10 strenght to have enough hp so you dont get killed too easily and be able to carry around more stuff. Some people even recommend 11 str so if you have a pain penalty or whatever it will be lowered to 10 and still let you use bows efficiently (some bow requires 10 str in order to use it).
Not in this town. Not in this town.
Only lots and lots of crack and weed.
xLemor that’s basically what I’ve done. I added in some extra skill points too.
The problem is just the sheer number of zombies, but I’ve thinned them out a lot now by going on a shotgun rampage.
Now I need to find a decent supply of ammo, a UPS, power armour, and one of those hauling rigs.
Holy CRAP the “self bow” SUCKS. It’s completely ineffective against anything because I don’t have fletching or arrow heads and can’t get them until I have high archery skill.
also when clearing a town, make sure to use window frames so zombies get stuck in them one by one, you can usually whack them to death without them having time to even attack you cause it takes them several turns for them to get thru.
Windows have always been a Survivor’s Best Friend in the apocalypse, even in Whales’ version. It’s been nerfed a bit, thankfully, so now it’s at a more realistic level.
Soooo it looks like a random conversation is being merged in this thread?
Tile support branch has been updated to the mainline (as of last night’s version), and working on final additions before I can call this good to go. Going to put a few more hours into this tonight and see if I can get those bits working properly!
Cant wait mate <3, is it going to come with a default pack? or will we have to scour the forums for one to attach?
Keep shooting at the floor until archery is at level 3, disassemble your self-bow, craft a longbow. Even with wood hardened arrows it does about 10 damage on a good hit.
I am at level 3. No option is there for a longbow.
I’m using version 0.6 of the game so that might be why. I can only get a self bow and short bow.
It’s supposed to have a default pack, but we don’t have a complete one quite yet hehe. Deon is in the process of making one to fit all of the current hardcoded definitions I think, not sure how many of the items he’ll do though. There are a bit more than 400 hardcoded tile definitions, and several hundred item definitions spread over the item JSON files. I need to make a few hardcoded default tile definitions for them to fall back to if it is not defined, one for each major category.
I’m curious to see how on earth the vehicles turn out with a tileset. Must be tricky to make those look decent…
Yeah, for now they are likely to look as weird as the current vehicles when rotated. I’ll have to fix that eventually hehe. Shouldn’t be too difficult, but it’s not on my immediate todo list. It is likely to be the absolute ugliest part of the tileset system
