What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?

I find a rm20 autoshotgun which is a useful gun. It has good damage and has 4 round burst. When it shoots all ammo, I will make a makeshift autoshotgun.

edit: my former NPC was melted by a passing by spitter at night. Then I saw Toby Burtz. He was afraid of my halligan bar and resisted my taming attempt! And took all cash cards from my trunk! I made him a bone needle, and name it Toby Burtz.

Day 86, Autumn. Prepping for the winter. Placing several guns on my survivor’s truck to be used during her expedition away from home. Lots and lots of guns and ammo, especially a CWD-63 with the belt feed adapter mod. She has several ammo belts with 500 .308 ammo each. This will be fun.

However, looking through the guns available, I’m beginning to wonder if I should organize them more. Like, aside from separating guns via skill, I should also separate guns based on the ammo type used. Trying to figure out how the layout of storage will look is melting my brain.

Ammunition at least. Separate ammo by type. Like 9mm ammo on one pile, and .223 ammo (.223 Remington and 5,56 NATO) on another.

Still, what container to use. Display racks, or crates? Hrmrmrmrmrmr.

Having a pretty good run with Lev. He is becoming a very proficient crafter. Now if only all of his NPC companions would stop dying… :frowning:

New world, rare and not too big cities, military recrut who survived heli crash

I headed north without much things to survive, during adventure i meet agresive npc, he was unarmed so we started fight in melee, i had advantage of having combat knife but he was tough oponent anyway, i made out with one arm broken and nearly dead but he had some much needed stuff like leather backpack or plastic bootle, used gun only to hunt wild animals so i can cook them on my pointy stick, spent 10 bullets, alslo found tent and braizer

After some time i saw a city, decided to raid it, looted some firearms, even found flintlock carbine and some ammo for it and looted library and few gunstores

With some decend supplies i decided to hole up in gun store, it was safe here, i crafted splint for my arm and started reading books, i spent whole season here but one day zombies started to make more noise than before, this caused some zombies to break into gun store from firing range, i moved to front and closed door to gun range but zombies in front decided to attack soon
There was less zombies in back than in front and walls will soon give up, used ruger 10/22 what i looted in one of gun stores to clear out firing range, when it was clear front wall surrendered to large group of zombies, my shooping cart was to small so i had to leave some recipe books, moved into firing range closing door behimd me, it will stop them but there are 2 holes in walls and more walls what can be destroyed, had to run in city during day, escaped into forest

Right now im good, because i picked animal discord animals like to attack me so food is not issue, i even have more food that i can eat and everything what is too hard to hit with combat knife quickly dies to my ruger 10/22 i alslo found refugee center with swamp nearby, i made a lot of money by making salt, i got crossbow, laser sight and rifle scope from merchant but i have no bolts or skills to craft some, laser sight is atached to my ruger but i must get better sewing skills if i want to survive, i lost some good piecies of clothing when i tried to repair it

i cannot properly say how i like to use hydraulic muscles at unarmed combat
slamming zeds with my steel knuckles and seeing them get damages reaching 30-40 in quick moves is so fucking amusing.

You should see how much damage mono molecular blades do with crav maga. withought the hydraulic muscles

Ammo belts and the belt feed adapter is oh so wonderful. Got a ton of .308 ammo belts on the big military outpost thanks to killing every zombie soldier out there, and I’m just running wild with them. If somehow I need stronger stuff, then I’ll go with the Barrett for .50 ammo, also using an ammo belt.

Pretty much sticking to ranged combat right now. If somehow I need a weaker gun, I’ll go with the Ruger 10/22 or the S&W 619. Once in a while I’d take a different weapon out for a spin. That said, compared to most of the rifles I use, normal shotguns feel rather underwhelming due to their range and ammo capacity.

yea, i got m240 and its working fine, its lying in my cart in case of need to high firepower and fire rate when stealth is not an option

the problem with guns is their usefulness abandons you the second they run out of ammo, and then they attract more trouble.

thats why i like a7 laser rifle, when you get a lot of power with a way to generate a lot of it too you basicaly have silent light recoiless accurate machine gun what do not need to reload

On the bright side, it’ll be a very long time before I ever run into a situation where I run out of bullets. For starters, I still have 8 500-bullet ammo belts of .308 Winchesters. Several thousand .223 Remingtons for the AR-15 and several STANAG drum magazines, 5 ammo belts of .50 ammo with 100 bullets each for the Barrett… not to mention a variety of pistols and submachine guns with 1000+ ammo, and a Rivtech scout rifle with 1000 bullets.

Gonna be a hell of a long time before I run out, and by then I should be able to replenish my ammo somehow, or at least look into hand-loading ammo if needed.

in that situation i am still extremly hesitant to use any ammo whatsoever, because im stingy.

I was in the same boat a long time ago. After a while, it just kept piling up in old games that I finally decided to take a plunge.

In general, once I’ve hit a certain point in a run the possibility of ammo running out no longer becomes an issue. Even weak guns become strong at that point after so much practice. Unless of course you set item spawn super low. Right now my run’s item spawn is at .5, and no lack of ammo so far.

Once I have a survivor get a good supply of ammo, melee seems rather tedious with how slow it kills hordes.

So, I updated after several months (avoided the whole filthy clothes/vitamins/vehicle mess, but that seems to have gotten mostly worked out now), and the game is clearly a good bit harder than it was (which is probably good), or at least, combat is more dangerous. I’ve been playing on x5 spawn and starting with really bad day, and I used to make it out about half the time… after 20 attempts, I only got out once. Wow.

So, did a lab start, just to get things moving (instead of dropping the spawn level - once I make it through the first day or two, anything less feels too easy), and I played for a while…

and, when I had some time this weekend, I hit the “explored too much map and it crashes” problem. Seriously, I hadn’t complained about it recently because I was no longer keeping up, so I assumed it had been fixed…

Can we get some kind of warning or something? “Hey, your map-load-count since last save is getting awfully high… you should save before the game crashes and you lose everything!” Heck, even just a loaded-map-tile count somewhere so I could monitor it myself…

And yes, I know, “Just save more often.” Sure, that’s it - just never do the completely reasonable behaviour (play for a couple of hours at a time), and it won’t be a problem…

Sorry to be a bit crappy about it, it’s just REALLY annoying when it happens, because you inherently lose SO MUCH.

Agh. The necropolis. My one major gripe about increasing the spawn rate is that it turns the area into a sardine can. Lots and lots of irridated wanderers packed in the area.

I don’t mind fighting them. The fact that it slows the game down to the speed of a survivor with both legs broken is immensely aggravating.

I’m going to feel a lot less bad about turning on NPC needs, because I got an NPC who has skill in EVERYTHING, except for bashing, trapping, and handguns. They also have only 3 strength, so I should be able to stop them easily if they decide to do something funny.

Well, the surface of the necropolis is cleared. Time for the vault levels.

Using the MP5 for this. Just effective enough to clear out the wanderers and nightmares. Got several spare magazines so reloading isn’t an issue, and ammo is high especially since the wanderers drop some sometimes. Main problem is still the lag. I feel that my brain is slowly turning into mush.

IIRC, the necropolic was made before z-levels were a thing around here… it could probably use some kind of rebalance or something.

Indeed. The real issue is the linear spawn increase, seemingly without any upper limit. If only we had an optional upper limit per location or something. In practicality, one can’t (or really shouldn’t) use spawn factor 3.0x or above. MOST places will still be non-absurdly crowded but it’s those few locations that ARE overcrowded then:

  • the vault
  • mall
  • any others? slime pits? ant hills?
