What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?

I made a large batch of kompot not looking at how many portions it was. Well I suppose I’m not being bothered with all those empty bottles everywhere anymore.

Also this game is the only game I’ve ever played that made me consider learning some of the recipes in it in real life. Kompot looks easy and sounds tasty for example. Toss some peeled apples into a big pot fill it with water and boil for 30 minutes? Sure why not?

You can add some cherries for example. Apple cherry one is pretty common here in Russia. And don’t forget sugar, or it will be sour. But if you like it that way - it’s okay then.

I think Frosty just retired from the cataclysm.
I found a farm, used it as a base. Fortified it and farmed stuff.
Five seasons later my once-mighty deathmobile has become a gigantic seeder/reaper/plow and all my weapons have been stored away in a locker in the barn. I’m currently self-sufficient and produce crops in excess. I also chase away NPC’S with a shotgun.
Yup, it’s official. Frosty finally got too old for this shit and retired.

On a semi-related note, can hordes be turned on in an ongoing game?

That’s sweet. I had a similar ending to many characters carving out a home in the forests with an ample supply of food and farmland.

Even limited myself to one location and made a house out of wattle and daub. It literally had everything I needed to live a very comfortable life. (Alcohol still, smoking rack, charcoal kiln, water pump, etc.)

On a side note, I’m also curious about the hordes. Did you ask about it in the corresponding thread?

AFAIK, you can turn on hordes in an already made world , but they wont show up unless you go to a freshly generated overmap

Day 02.

I got out of the city with a metal bat and an SKS with 10 rounds. I had a toolbox and an atomic lamp too, but meh.

I was in a house reading books predawn on D1 when a horde literally Surprise-ripped the wall right out from behind me. I fled out of the house and around to pick up my filthy clothing loot and they surrounded me. I lit a fire and waited there, blocking attacks and taking painkillers until the fire picked up. Once it was a healthy size I fled from the Zeds into the fields. The ones immediately infront of me burned up. the ones behind them lost my scent and sight of me, and the ones in the distance, I presume, went into the fire. I watched for a minute in the dark, looking at zed after zed horde into the fire.

Out of the city, I was in despair as I lacked a shelter in the immediate area to settle into and grind. north and south east is a wall of city, with no shops of note. The far north was a megastore, and nobody wants to grind by that thing. So west into the fields.

I found a prison. Prison hordes dont start until you ‘unlock’ the prison itself by being close to it. So I did that. I found a bubble car and took it. Bubble car actually showed positive growth in charge. I found a mine. A migo chased me and I shot the shit out of it. A human heard and tried to kung fo me. 2 bullets more. I looted the clothing of the migo’s victims. I will now craft up enough to make basic warm clothing. I am sleeping in a big rig truck for the moment. and will explore the mine for either a jackhammer or filter mask. Or an artifact, though the only finale worth it and doable by this character is the Thing. I havent buffed him yet … Thinking it making bots.

playtesting the new,and extremely expanded upon version of my mod.
so i will upload when i get all the stuff balanced and done.
time to test my gasoline powered armor.
like that rivtech one but shittier.

Oh man, what a thrill.

So I begin in a shelter that has spawned a single tile away from the outskirts of a town. Fun. An early routine of crafting long underwear and other goodies has temporarily been made unavailable to me. Within four tiles away is a fire station. The most glorious of glories. I should be able to snag a fire axe (20 cutting & 20 bashing so fuggin’ sweet on day one!) and perhaps some turnout gear, but only if it’s in good condition and if it fits.

So, I walk out of the shelter, draw some zombies into one building, juke my way to the exit, and make my way into house after house, getting closer to the fire station. My first priority would be to determine the orientation, and I discover that it is in a favorable position. I make my way to the house across the street, and there are plenty of zombies including zed dogs that are between me and the house. I also discover that there is a fire axe that is prime for the yoinking in the little office area. So, I attract their attention, run out the back and loop around to cross the street. Bust through the window, grab the axe, and start hacking away at the zeds. Perfect.

Pop into the fire station, see a bunch of zeds, and not turnout gear the fits. Alright, but I snagged a firefigher helmet. Fair enough. Clear out the zeds, hoping that I might get something in good condition that fits. Also in the fire station is a halligan bar. Gotta love the prying. One drops a backpack, and I take that. Go back around and use the terrain to my advantage while I clear out the area that leads to my shelter. Perfect.

I check the map and notice that there is a Museum. Maybe I can find some armor there. I would love to get some armor. It’s probably about ten tiles away with a little bit of space, but a lot of buildings and street. Once again, the first priority is to find which way it is facing. It happens to be facing inward toward more of the city. Ugh.

I make my way, darting from building to building. I get a following of non-special zeds (no acid zombies, no smokers, no shockers, no necros, etc.) and bust through a window while I thin their numbers a bit. My luck begins to run a bit short, as a shocker has spotted me through the opposite side of the building. I feel like my time is up.

At 70 pain and both legs with dirty bites, I remain standing. Quick smash of all the corpses and make my way to the musuem. But first, I have to juke a zombie while my halligan bar does its work.

Inside is some ornamental plate armor. That encumbrance is devastating, but that armor is sanctuary. I put it on make my way to back to the cleared out portion of town.

There is still some daylight left, and my focus is too low to begin crafting. I decide to temp fate and raid one of two military surplus stores that spawned near my shelter. So far so good. Plenty of MREs and a water purifier, so sustenance will not be a problem, nor will armor be. I think that I am pretty much golden unless if my daring and bravado ends my run prematurely.

AND A CAN SEALER IN THE SPORTING GOOD SHOP

Edit Edit:

I NEVER WANT THIS WILD RIDE TO END

Shiki the Bionic Monster has finally dug most of the faulty bionics out of his deformed body. It took 12 days 3 ruptured internal organs and my entire supply of First Aid Kits to do the deed. He still talks like a Dalek, and makes Quasimodo look like a Calvin Klein model, but aside that his quality of life is massively improved.

After binge watching bojack horseman I decided to cheat some of the npcs to have animal traits. Usually doing so before I first talk to them.

I ended up getting lucky and getting a lizardgirl to join me on my adventures thanks to an easy ‘kill my mom’ quest. Thick tail does wonders for melee. Unfortunately we eventually encountered a hulk. Not prepared I decided to book it to a nearby turret nest to see if I could kite the hulk through it. Unfortunately it seems slit nostrils+cold blooded+NPCs not understanding running is poor for hulk evasion. Lizzie got punched through the wall of a house and the hulk went in after her. Never saw her again.

"the eater of the dead…"
quest target: 1 map tile away. This was the first NPC that spawns next to you at game start.
Mr I-dont-recall-the-name bravely gave his life* to protect me from the Jabberwocky, his sacrifice will be remembered**

*By “bravely gave his life”, I mean he didn’t run as fast as me.
**So I can loot the corpse, he had a nice gun.

Playing as a chimera mutant and I’ve done pretty good so far. I escaped the lab and hauled off with a large amount of good loot, dynamite, and a NPC who’s also similarly mutated like I am with a whopping 9 unarmed.
I an UZI from disassembling a turret that I turned friendly with an EMP grenade. This really helped me early on.
But once I blew the doors out of the lab I went around and explored to get loot. I made the lab my base and continued to explore outside and further in the lab. Eventually reached the lab finale in which I acquired an A7 later rifle, a fusion blaster gun, a laser pistol, a quantum solar panel, and a set of salvaged power armor from two armored zombies that got killed by security bots.

I went and raided military bunkers and acquired some great military weapons, and later on went into the city in broad daylight with my fully mutated companion and destroyed everything. Managed to replace my machete with a katana once I looted an antique store.

Getting the threshold for chimera was really difficult for both my NPC and I, however all the benefits really make it worthwhile.

I consider myself lucky that I found both recycler CBM and expanded digestive system CBM, since they both make my hyper metabolism more manageable. Still have to eat only meat since I’m a carnivore and I don’t think I can get rid of it since I have Apex Predator.

I just drilled a hole in the outside of the lab, making an opening where I reside in. I then filled the hole with a custom made “vehicle” that really is just a massive combination of light, heavy duty, and wooden frames to hold crafting stations, water tanks, solar panels, etc.

The original idea was to just let some light in, and use vehicle construction to patch the hole and make it like a window, but I eventually upped it to include crafting stations, and it went uphill from there.

are you using a pks mod?

curious minds want to know how you like it if you are

My cyberjunkie failed to install a new CBM, and destroyed their Motor Control Overstimulator, their Endocrine Enervator, and their sensory dulling.

Love the mod, adds more challenges and variety. Something just bumping the spawn rate couldn’t do.

i also tweaked mutations. chimera is a mess of crazy

I’m fine with it. It’s a change of pace from my “rarely eating super human cyborg” or my more recent “frail bionic patient with a lot of guns”.

The added urgency to forage meat-based foods are great, and the extra steps in taking to reduce how sucky my life as a chimera is.

However since I got both expanded digestive system and recycler CBM, my hunger levels decrease at a more manageable level.

To add to this, the post threshold mutations like apex predator and acid blood/proof is pretty great. Hyper metabolism is pretty decent since I’m able to be very efficient with my consumables. Sapiovore and other mutations regarding eating rotted or raw meat unaffected is pretty great too.

Ran into a basement of albino penguins, I barely survived by tearing my underwear into a rag to stop the bleeding. My NPC wasn’t so lucky.

Started up a new world and one thing became almost immediately clear:

NPCs form groups of their own now. I thought it was just a fluke thing but these same three NPCs have been traveling together for the longest time. All are friendly.

That is awesome Mad Jackal
