Found a great car in a houses garage. A garage that had no way to open it and I had no tools on me to make an opening. Fungal infection from a flaming eye(maybe). Great outing today. grrrr
Edit: Is there a trick to installing the radio repeater mod? I have one in my inventory and select the option from the prompts but nothing is happening.
My tramp Ho Bow just got a canvas bag of fungicide from a local refugee center after asking for equipment when confronting a shocker zombie in the backbay… Thanks… I guess… I guess I smack him with it instead of just shooting him a few times.
My second M1911, along with my USP .45, has spontaneously disappeared, along with its precious extended magazine. I’m hoping I just accidentally left it on the pavement at the refugee center, because it had some nice mods on it that I’m loathe to abandon.
Also, I got the ranch prospectus quest. I get the feeling I’m never touching this particular ranch, because it’s right next to a medium-sized town, blob pit, and triffid grove. This is the most spectacularly bad placement I’ve ever seen in Cata.

“Hey, where do you think we should try and rebuild civilization?”
“Let’s pick that spot right in between the huge pit of zombifying black goo and the forest full of killer living plants”
I rolled into a town with the first refugee center I’ve found, but upon exploring further I found that it was right across the street from a fungal tower. I’m talking RIGHT across the street.

Words cannot describe how amazed I am. Just. Amazed. By sheer stupidity/RNG.
I’m guessing that the RNG map generator doesn’t take hostile map tiles into account at all when it generates refugee centers. Logically speaking it should I guess, but RNG has always been RNG after all, what do you expect?

“ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT IDEA SIR”
Not actually such a bad idea. Triffid ranching would be amazing for creating fuel. Which you can use to exact armageddon upon the blob pit and town.
Meanwhile… that feel when you realise you’ve been carrying the arc cannon around because it has “cannon” in the name and you just assumed it must be better than the L.T Carbine because carbines suck.

Actually, unless it’s changed in the last 3ish months, fungal TOWERs are the safest and easier fungal infection to get rid of - thet spawn no fungaloids (initially), only tendrils and a few fungal zombies. Make your initial approach NOT in the spring (when it rains all the bloody time), light up the fungal bed (to avoid spawning fungal sporelings that grow into fungaloids), ignore the tendrils, and kill the tower with a reach weapon. BAM, problem solved.
Now, fungal flowers or, even worse, fungal BLOOM - yeah, not worth the trouble of getting rid of.
Well, flowers aren’t too bad late game, but bloom is always a pain, just because they spawn fungaloids over SUCH A LARGE AREA. Actually cleaning all of that up is SO time consuming.
What are you talking about? Use fire on the fungal bed first, so it doesn’t spawn fungaloids, then, when the fire is out, go kill the tower (which is fireproof, or close enough) with any reach weapon (from the diagonal, and back up and kill the hedge with the reach weapon when it regrows).
As long as there’s nothing generating spores (ie, fungaloids), you have plenty of time, and you’re pretty much safe (don’t kill the tendrils until after, so it will not keep generating them).
I mean, yeah, you have to be careful with building fires (collapsing on your head and such), but this isn’t a building fire. Barring rain, it burns until every fungal bed tile (that it can get to) is ash, then it eventually goes out. The only things around should be fungal-type things, none of which drop grenades or bullets (that I’ve ever seen).
So seriously, I don’t know what you mean. A little more a single short, cryptic sentence, perhaps?
respectively. These are flamable monsters that leave flamable corpes. the rate of respawn for these are fast enough to keep the fires lit.
in the case of fungal bloom… the bloom extinguishes fire but creates fungal bed, which burns…
OK, fungal queens must be very new - I’ve never heard of them before. Also, last I checked, hedgerows don’t leave corpses at all (though they do die and regrow in the fire several times).
(But yes, the fungal bloom takes different tactics - I did mention that. This tactic was for fungal towers only, which can include the tower at the center of fungal bloom, but doesn’t really clear the area around the bloom, of course.)
New player here. After many attempts and dying pretty much right away, and never finding anything in the starting shelter, I decided to try starting in the pawn shop instead. Not much of interest spawned in there either, but it did put me closer to some other building that did have some good loot. \o/ I spend some time exploring some buildings and avoiding all the zombies I see trying to follow me and finally think to myself “Hey! I’m making some progress. Woohoo!” A little group of them having formed I think “I’ll swing around this building here and get some distance between us.” I’m relieved that there’s no zombies around that corner. Sadly, there was a Moose instead that decided it wanted to maul me to death … Stupid Moose.
Spent the day hunting critters. Found some wolves in the woods, smashed my newly minted Deathmobile into the trees to take the whole pack out in one go.
Cooking their food, then going back to sleep. Because Im still dead tired despite sleeping the last 12 hours spent sleeping.
Going to go loot a mine, then find some mirrors, some more solar panels, and then hopefully a boom crane and then some kitchens.
Ive run low on good shottgun shells, and Ive got some poor selection of random guns and ammo.
about 12 days ago or so I shot up a bunch of random mutagens I found in a coldlab. Im something, I just dont know what yet. Well, by all technicalities human, though only just. The game doesnt know any better than I do what I am trying for.
I have carnivore, nullifying all my plant food and scavenged food. I have some superficial traits like a stubtail.
Im beautiful, which I wish was a chargen option, and I have terrifying. Which is always a welcome combo.
My slow learner trait coupled with my knowledge of teh cheese means I have inadequate melee skill for this point in the game, when Im facing husks and manglers and, youknow endgame conditions. cephlapod eyes, sapovore, slime, snout, a bunch of worthless trash traits. But at least not actively harmful.
Finished up my critter sections for the wiki. every single major faction has seen their bestiary put up.
