Here’s hoping you have a vehicle to carry that…I had one once back in May, and my character’s back would be DONE after that op.
I was going to my base to drop off some precious loot when I saw an NPC being attacked by a bear, I was going to assist till I got closer and a Moose came into the fray, I immediately stopped as the song came into my head, “This ain’t no place for no heroes, this ain’t no place for no, better maaaan.” I then went to youtube to play the song as I ran away praying the Moose didn’t notice me.
Good call, until I have significant resources I try to avoid moose, bears, jabberwocks, etc… I am not very successful at this, which is why I take the Quick and Fleet Footed traits.
If you drag a shopping cart around you can easily carry bear traps, but they’re risky to use unless you have a good sustainable ranged weapon. I prefer a nailgun, but juggling loaded crossbows out of a shopping cart is surprisingly effective.
Recently I’ve been raiding military bunkers, so my new response (to anything) is grenade to the face, which works great until you run out of grenades.
I’m currently heading off to go murder a triffid heart with several mininukes, a shopping cart full of molotovs/grenades, and a makeshift flamethrower, hopefully I don’t burn to death or mutate something horrible on my way out.
I personally rate my chances fairly low, because I don’t really have any good armor, just a demolition team’s worth of explosives.
I took a staff from the dog, I did, let me tell you, and it was glorious! The Staff of Hideous Miasma, it said. Apparent effects were rattling noises with a hint of universal attention and a touch of the devil, and wielding it made me weak and inaccurate, but when I stroke my staff it made me feel more of a man than anything ever before.
– excerpt from the diary of yet another Jane Doe.
Apply effects were similar to a mix of flashbang and adrenaline injection.
And so it goes,
I wuz cruising in my sunmobile hoping to keep away from the evil spirits from taking form of former suburb tenants when I saw a sole light-blue Z on the side of the road. I thought that rushing through him would leave me an open patch of land to slide away from the houses once I mark the points of interest that may be about. I rammed straight into his left side with my left wheel, which sent him flying like an arrow, with well above 100 km/h total. Not only that I haven’t kept my stealth, but the poor lightning bunny flew straight through the window of the house behind him, and then he bounced once off the wall opposing the window, and back onto the wall tile next to the broken window where he trashed the dresser with absolute damage. I swear that at that very moment every Z in the town knew I was right there.
And so it goes…
My longest-lived survivor ever also had one of my best moments.
He was a melee fighter primarily, so tended to get a lot of bite wounds when I was out clearing the town. Usually I’d just clean or cauterize and be done with it.
That didn’t happen this time.
Around sunset I got back to the garage I commandeered as a base, and discovered that I had a nasty infection. I had no antibiotics, so time was running out. Across town there were two pharmacies, so I suited up and made my way over… only to find that both were completely looted of any prescription drugs. Those were the only two pharmacies in town, it was almost dusk, and the wound was beginning to fester.
There was one more hope: a doctor’s office. But I know for a fact that all the drugs in the doctor’s office are kept in the back room, and I just don’t have the computer skill to hack it open. Dusk was falling as I returned to my base with a plan. A few days ago I’d found a jackhammer in a nearby hardware store, and taken it back to my base just in case. Now was the time.
A quick stop at the gas station to fill it up and I was ready. I made a mad dash across town to the doctor’s office in the pitch darkness and heavy rain, vomiting and weakening with every step. Along the way I had to stop at a gas station and chug their whole stock of bottled water to avoid death by dehydration, but I made it and jackhammered my way straight through the heavy metal door to the medicine vault and the delicious antibiotics within. My character would live to see another day.
Then I got killed by slimes about a week later. :I
I’VE LIVED 'TILL WINTER! YEIIIIIISSSSSSSS
Also, Mil cargo trucks spawn in the second metal gate room of the hazards waste sarcophagus garage thingy. I didn’t know at the time, so I blew up the place using the computer. Then I decided to go back in after the fires died down, then I found the cargo truck.
I’m living in swiss cheese with a door attached.
I need to finish bedrooms first, then the rest of the place.
Yes, I am attempting to build a log cabin in the woods using only fallen trees.
Currently stuck in a house at the southern most area of a rather small town (forty buildings or so). I had to break one of the windows to get in, and now I’m looking for the necessary tools to board it up.
Since it was at the most southern point and surrounded by only a few houses, there were thankfully a mere few positions to clear. Mainly, the north-west, north, and east. The zombies got a few bites out of me, though, during the early steps of town-cleaning. As I have no option to cauterize my wound with the pocket-knife, I can only assume they’re not fatal or infectious. At least, I hope they’re not.
No pharmacy in sight, and no first-aid kits around either. At least not in the southern segment. >.> Also, apparently moose are aggressive. Dammit, I got rammed in the… behind, a few times while running away from it. That was in the beginning, when I was just making my way from the evac shelter to the town through the forest.
When my char woke up, I found a rock on the bed. When he gone sleeping there was no rock.
Seems like poor guy had a nightmare.
Moose are evil. That is all I must say.
Also, landmines in a bush is just a why me moment.
Or if things turned out differently, its a
“HAHAHA FUCK YOU MOOSE!” moment

Don’t forget to check the character screen (@) for bite wounds. Unless that’s in the effects list, you’re fine.

Ah, thank you. I was not aware of such a feature. If I might ask something else as well, is it just me or is kiting… slightly less effective than in 0.7 or 0.6?
I was doing a night raid on a grocery store(filling a shopping cart) when something went wrong, some zombie heard me and crashed the window…
soon the whole town was up on me and i hide behind the counters killing anything that spotted me, things were going well until a smoker show up, the smoke surrounded me and the whole store, i started to cough. My plan had failed so i made a run for it to the evac shelter, i was thinking i was dead already, my torso was busted but the coughing apparently it stopped and i lived another day.
thanks for smoke nerfing devs.
End of Day 3 - 1st play through
I found myself situated between two towns with a science lab to the North. On my first expedition I stumbled upon a helicopter crash which provided a couple guns (no ammo), a rocket, rucksack and drop leg pouches. Venturing deep into the lab has provided me with many basic supplies. Though I found something still alive down there, which I avoided. The cold has shortened my dives to deeper levels. Recently I have been building my larder by hunting in the local forest. When I found a huge spider nest I lit a nearby shrub. Amazing how fast web burns. It is still dying down so I haven’t been able to see what might be left. I heard two spiders pop. Though I did take advantage of the forest fire to cook my rabbit meat. My latest task has been gathering stones for a fireplace in the evac shelter. A quick raid to one of the outlying houses provided me with a much needed frying pan and preserved food (aka Spam).
Almost sundown so time to lie down with a good book…
We will see what adventures tomorrow brings.
Either you’re totally new, or just a lurker. But welcome to the forums, anyway.
Yep, brand new. Not sure by that reply if I should feel welcome or run. DF community is a little more inviting. Might just go into lurk mode now.
… How can someone be a guest? I thought it went from… Unless… Wha?
Nah man, you are welcome. Enjoy your stay c:
Run, I will distract them.
