I decided to move to the nearest town coz leaving to loot everytime was too annoying.
I’m currently holed in a fire station, which is really secure and well equipped with metal doors, garage, beds and stuff. I really like it. Problem is I didn’t notice the slime pits nearby. Still I don’t see many of those things around so all seems alright. Are they a danger? They seem to just ignore me so far.
Edit: I found bigger ones… these are not ignoring me. D:
I was looting at night when I came across them. I retreated to a gas station nearby. Luckily for me, they don’t attack the door or windows but they are piling up outside.
This is the first time I get this unlucky finding a place to live. At least I found a working electric car in this town. I had to get it inside coz something attacked it at night and it lost a solar panel. I’m seen blobs inside places they should be unable to be… so I’m guessing they spawn all around the place and not in the slime pit itself like I was hoping.
Ugh… I’m not moving again. I have stashed too much stuff for that. I’ll make leather armor and just fight them with my fire axe forevers. Or till I die or get bored and suicide.
It’s a very good way to level up your combat and dodging skills.
What I do in cases like that (or in general, really) is I create a safehouse where I temporarily store all my gear until I scout out a nice enough location to set down roots for good. I then commandeer whatever vehicle has a lot of storage space and start moving all the stuff to the new place. You just have to make sure you don’t have to dodge and weave through a bunch of car wrecks, and wherever you set down your car, it won’t get destroyed by some zombies. I found a weird behavior where they’ll go out of their way to smash up the closest vehicle if one is ever remotely between you and them.
God damn.
Coming straight out of the game to complain about it.
Worked real hard to build a sweet car with solar panels and a bunch of batteries and tools and what not. Parked the thing outside of my base, then went in to do whatever a survivor does. A couple of hours later I caught the deadly (japanese) cold and my character was bed ridden for days (what made things more complicated was my acute hearing thanks to a bionic that woke me up every time the slightest noise happened).
I leave my house like a week later to find my car’s panels and batteries completely smashed and a bunch of zombears and zombie dogs smirking at me.
Right now I’m building my solar array in my home base, which I built in the dirt lot of a farm. The solar array has 15 solar panels linked up to it (planning to add another 10), surrounded by boards which will be reinforced with some plating, and beyond that, log walls surrounded by deep pits. Nothing is getting through to the solar array. NOTHING!
Attached to the solar array are a recharging station, a vehicle welding rig, a kitchen unit, and I’m planning to add a kitchen buddy, forge rig, chemistry rig, and a minifridge. Some floodlights will also be added to provide interior lighting. After that, I’ll continue erecting the walls around the entire base so I have an actual living space with storage/work spaces for the various equipment I pick up. I might also create some NX-17 Charge Rifles to defend the place from zombears. Depending on how effective that is, I might not need the moat.
Why don’t you just live in the barn? It has nice big doors and everything, so you can drive a car in there and work on it without being eaten or rained upon. Knock one wall tile out and build your solar plant on the outside (with walls around it if you want to), attached to the kitchen and welding stuff on the inside.
Spawn rate 50. Took on a hotel as my first large conquest. So many zombies…
After killing a hundred or so (mainly with spiked board traps, caltrops and pits) the sun started to set. Second day another 150, and on the third day I managed to make my way out in the front of the hotel, grab a luggage cart (650 storage!) and run away from the remaining zombies. Really disappointing loot in the hotel otherwise, except for one real godsend, apparently one of the janitors was an archer, as there was a Bowyer’s Buddy book in the basement, with a reflex recurve bow recipe.
Going to try for a gun store at the outskirts of town next I think. I have a lot of guns from an LMOE shelter and soldiers at crash sites, but would like some more ammo before relying on them.
Or maybe just wander a bit, see if I can find some dead military dudes, there’s a bunker I’d like to raid.

Because that’s too easy, and I like to build my bases from scratch. Besides, if I just lived in the barn, I wouldn’t be able to make some cool-ass base.
The solar array is completed, so is the board barricade around it. I also completed the kitchen unit and found all the stuff to make the eclectic forge. I also found a wrecked Military Cargo Truck in my looting missions, so I’ve been slowly gutting it and morphing the ambulance I’m using into a cargo truck for larger loots and less travelling back and forth. Cargo carrier parts carry a ridiculous amount of volume; about 1000, compared to 400 for regular trunks.
