Except that the missile silo has to be within a certain(read: close) distance to the target to actually have an effect.

Nether critter spawning grounds/gates?
As was suggested before, blob symbiont reward?
Exclusive mutations/traits reward?

What makes you say that? They work at least from anywhere on the same overmap, possibly anywhere period.
