The plows currently act like really durable spikes or blades made from a sheet of hard plating. And when I say act like I mean I pretty much just grabbed “spike” out of the Json and modified that.
Soy, Kevin or any of the other contributors could doubtlessly have done better than that. As I’m not entirely sure what some of the attached tags do or how to check. All that said I am trying to bumble my way into a functional battering ram–so I’ll throw that up when I can.
Alright, here’s the Humvee that managed to survive a crash through 3 houses, a barn, around 2-4 hulks, and accidentally getting ever so so slightly blown up by my stupidity and an M-72 LAW
It’s also missing half of its roof, and soon as I find a Integrated tool-set, I’ll start repairing it and adding on to it, hopefully it won’t go the way of the APC that I found in town.
Wasn’t aware they could survive that much damage either, honestly.
Started a new game in the 0.A Release. The plan was to start with a small sled that I build in the shelter (extra light frame + trunk, dragging it behind me) and slowly develop it into a mobile fortress by adding things one at a time. I got so far as having basically a bicycle with additional storage when I wanted to move to another town to raid. On the way to the next town I found 2 Humvees and an armored truck. It’s like the RNG said “Oh, you don’t want to play with premade vehicles this time? Alright, don’t mind me, I’ll just place these things here for you to completely ignore.”
So I switched plans and got all three vehicles to a farm and dismantled them in the barn.
This is the (preliminary) result.
Needed the materials from two wreckages and 4 or so electronic stores and one hotel (coffeemaker -> heating elements)
I want to eventually fill the vehicle with cargo carriers. So far I have 2 and I need one of them for raids. I have quite a few solar panels and storage batteries from electric cars and I think I’m going to place the panels on top of the tool rigs.
I divided the vehicle into 4 sections.
The top part is the unsorted storage. Everything I bring back from raids and can’t be bothered to sort into the right trunk/cargo space at the moment will go here.
The cockpit will have food, clothing, weapons and miscellaneous stuff like ID cards, medicine and mp3 player.
The High Tech Crafting section will have almost everything else. It has shutter doors on three sides so I can sleep in peace without zombears and undead dogs spotting me from a mile away.
The Low Tech Crafting section will have logs, two by fours and low tech tools like the charcoal smoker. I felt I needed this section because I like to smoke the meat I get but every so often I need dehydrated meat and the crafting is easier when I don’t have to repeatedly select “food dehydrator” over “charcoal smoker”.
The big shutter door in the side of the vehicle is there in case I need to craft or repair something outside of the vehicle.
The shutter doors inside will be open when the vehicle is in motion so I can see what’s behind me.
All the corpses by the way are what’s left of the huge ant population after acid rain for 2 days. They, or rather their dehydrated meat, is what kept me alive for the past two seasons I needed to build the vehicle so far. (I’m playing with 28 day seasons)
EDIT: The bottom trunk door will have military composite armor once I find more of it.
EDIT 2: It’s not actually designed as a battle vehicle. At most it’s supposed to ram a stray zombie dog or two. The military armor is there primarily to protect the vehicle long enough for me to wake up and shove a crossbow bolt up the zombears ass who has been so rude to knock on my walls.
Well, I’m basically at the point in the game where I have nothing else to do except build a super vehicle and explore.
Has a fix been made so that driving is actually practical in tileset mode yet? I stopped playing for a bit because I couldn’t see far enough ahead to avoid hitting things.
My best solution so far is to create a solar power ‘farm’ with about 30 panels, with epower set to 222. I looted panels off every damn car for about 3 miles. I am now getting pretty darn decent battery charging, about 1 storage battery full every two days. Then I install em in my rig, which makes for a semi-reasonable rolling distance.
It does seem that no auto manufacturer would make an electric powered solar car that could only drive 1 day out of 13. I’m not saying they should be more powerful, but it’s not likely that there’d be any solar cars on the road if you could only drive em once a fortnight.
Presumably, before the cataclysm you could charge your electric car with mains power, and the solar panels were only there to give you slightly extended range. (Much like you have set it up yourself, except you need to use a welder to get the electricity into the car…)
Suggestion, make it possible to “siphon” electric power from one vehicle to another, or into a battery, perhaps using some kind of craftable/lootable vehicle recharger.
What about just using copper cables like jumper cables? It’d save adding an item, if that’s a concern.
I’ve mostly just been rolling around with beginner vehicles, trying to figure out the best micro sized ones. So far, my cargo container on casters has been good, but I don’t think it’s currently possible to have a seat and cargo space in one tile. Onto that, I plan to add a flood light, solar panel, battery, recharging unit, and controls to turn the light on or off. I don’t think I can fit anything else useful on there, except maybe armor plating?
Overall though, just having mobile storage (especially more than a shopping cart) is crazy useful. I’m going to make it a priority on every new character. I guess it depends on finding a hacksaw though, because those are a pain to crazy. (Digression: I’ve been meaning to make a crafting diagram of the various metalworking tools to figure out what’s the minimum you need to find, but I keep getting sucked into paying.)
I also might update the wiki with some of the notes I’ve found in the code comments, as they state what the construction rules are more explicitly than the wiki does.
My converted semi truck, after cannibalizing two APCs for parts and finding a sports car with a V12 10L engine. It has everything you need for crafting, though a little short on storage (I used floor trunks for isles inside so I can make it out quicker once I hear a zombear trying to chomp its way through my precious solar panels and such. I have a couple of NX rifles in the trunk waiting to be installed for nighttime perimeter defense, once I get around to it.
Ever since I first saw a shopping cart, I wanted to make an improved version. Behold, The Zipper! It’s draggable! It’s solar! It pedals! It’s basically this:
I tried to make something very powerful and i got it:
Insane maximum kinetic energy.
2739 kg and 2125 km/h is…
2125 km/h is: 2125 / 3.6 = 590 m/s
2739 * 590^2 / 2 = 476 722 950 = 477 GODDAMN MJ.
It’s not even a limit, right now i can install third engine.
Chars:
V8 engine (will be replaced with one more V12)
V12 engine
(i’ll put another one V12, but if i found a minireactor i will install it instead)
Welding rig
Minifridge
Chem. lab
Forge
Kitchen Unit (currently, it’s RV’s one)
Recharging station (currently - only one, since i don’t use rechargable devices yet.
7 solar panels
2 Storage & 2 Car batteries (260K of energy in total)
Advantages:
Side doors are made to easily close and open vision of surroundings. Just one move and close yourself from others.
Insanely easy to expand in any side.
A lot of free space (trunk is not enough, though, those trunks hardly took all my stuff from the base. I am planning to change these all trunks to cargo carriers, but it requires me to obtain lots of ropes.
When i finish to cover outside tiles with hard platings (i am doing that right now) it will be a tank. Just a tank.
The most vurneable component - gasoline tank - is hided very deeply.
Since there’s a welding rig inside i can repair this machine any time.
Disadvantages:
It’s almost impossible to contain vehicle parts in there. Even cargo carrier is not enough in terms of disassembling wreckages.
Universal Vehicle Disadvantage: NO STORAGE CARTS.
It’s pretty fragile inside.
It looks ugly
I know - top speed doesn’t have value, because collisions with such insane kinetic powers will destroy both structures as well and moreover - powerful engines require more fuel.
Oh, and yeah. My target is to make something compact and powerful at once :3
its quite servicable but still in progress, 2 slots for crafting stations, usually i run with the welder and hotplate but a fridgee, forge and foodco unit are onboard as well.
using opaque doors so that i can stand in the gap between the armored glass windows to zap lasers at anything coming from the front without it getting an idea that i’m there in case its approaching from the sides. means the design gets almost zero zombie damage cause they dont even try to walk through it. (found a laser rifle on floor 1 of the first lab i entered, then built up to having 4 rechargable esz’s, going for more, right in the truck. plus a rail gun and hand laser.)
ran into a wreck of ‘something’ that gave me 15 or so freight carriers after i had just built my first three or four from scratch. so now its got 11k storage of which i’ve used up to 9. that’s 2+ full tiles of ‘stuff’
because it has so many panels (one is broken right now), its also my main charging station when sitting at the base. it has … counting … 9 storage batteries, 14 car, 6 truck and 2 motor cycle batteries and has an acceleration of 19 at 4396kg. 2 more big electric engines in the trunk as well as a car engine with alternators should i ever need it.
3 headlights at -45, 0 and +45 degrees
no bed or rear enclosure … cause after waking up in a farm surrounded by a million blobs (20mb save file!!) i tend to sleep outdoors so that i have a chance to react to whatever madness is happening around me before its hopeless.
it carries 3 gas and 2 water tanks. the longer term plan is to mount flamethrowers left and right and rain more death upon the triffids, my favorite enemy since i once lost a truck to them.
and that’s that. and a small question … the friction coefficient, k-dynamics, is at 50%. i think i want it to be higher. how do i do that?
Built from an electric car and humvee, the Skull crusher weighs in at 2860 kg.
It’s powered by one large electric and two storage batterys, the fuel tanks are for the 0.4 litre charging engine if i some how lose the solar panels.
Storage wise it has 7 floor trunks, 3 trunks and a mini fridge.
If you haven’t noticed there no wind screen just a shutter door, this is to cut down of the number of lights, there’s just one flood light over the drivers chair.
It has a welding rig, chem lab, kitchen unit and a forge so that’s the basics covered.
