The item is called “Inactive laser turret” if someone wants to spawn it or look for it in the files.

Considering how “Stable” heh the stable version is I decided not to try it out.

So since the “stable” version is not running well for you, you decided not to play the version that has months of fixes.

Well it did say experimental.

Experimentals can and will be full of bugs, but as we are currently in a pseudo-content-freeze until 0.A, it’s actually suprisingly stable.

You should absolutely play experimental. If you find some bugs, report them to the github at https://github.com/CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA. That’s how we get them fixed.

Solar panels apparently just got “nerfed hard”. Anyone know how hard?

As in they generate 1/10th as much power?

Yep, time will tell if it was to much. For now I think its adequate, but I just use my solar car something about once in every 5 game days.

I’m going to vote for ‘too much’. I have 8 solar panels to run a fridge and kitchen RV unit and a floodlight, and I can’t build any charge after 5 in-game days. I don’t even turn the floodlight on most of the time. I admit the fridge is a power hog, but how many panels could you possibly need for it? I’m going to keep adding them (does seem like there’s more solar cars around) but past a certain point it becomes a little silly. I do agree the nerf is more than justified, but I submit it’s a little more than I enjoy. Maybe 2/10ths of what it was?

I you want to bump them up to two tenths of what they were putting out before Skelknecht just:

*Open your vehicle_parts.json in the data/json folder
*Ctrl+F and search for solar
*alter the epower of solar panels and reinforced solar panels to 222 instead of 111 ((was 1119 previously))

Solar panels do not need buffed. Solar cars however could use probably two more panels. As well as a chance to spawn with some of them broken.

Solar power isn’t something that should be the cure-all, even in CDDA. “The Future!” isn’t a good enough reason. They’re properly weak now, you should need a decent amount of solar powers to power a solar car and it’s stuff inside. Not a single damn panel to power a house worth of lighting, mini-fridges, and cooking devices.

Solar panels where only added to reduce the load on the electrical grid, and to prevent people from being totally stranded in the middle of nowhere. The normal charge came from special recharging stations. Special quantum ones, they are only visible when they hold a charge. You used to see them everywhere before the electrical grid collapsed.

Will look into modifying the solars to have more solars.

Ive been running a solar car with 6 storage bats and 8 panels. The 8 panels barely seem to be able to go 1-2% a day without driving during summer (car is parked on the street outside a house with me reading books in). Id say they have been nerfed too hard. Especially when it seems to be anything but sunny 90% of the time.

The problem with solar power (as Baudios told me on irc) is that while the fridge consumes a lot of power, the other rigs do not. So you can hardly drain those.

So solar needs to be buffed back to absurdity because you chose a power source dependant on good weather, in an area that regularly gets bad weather? Cataclysm doesn’t take place in an area of the world that has months of sunshine, but apparently because the game isn’t easy enough unless a couple solar panels can power an entire nation come rain, snow, or the apocalypse?

They’re fine, they don’t need to be stronger, they just need to have a greater surface area on the vehicles they intend to power.

Two.

Solar panels need buffed but to be actually affected by bad weather. And the rigs need to actually draw power.
