Putting the main engine at the square that will most likely be impacted by zombies and other stuff, always an interesting idea! Can’t wait to try this on my own suicide mobile too when I go to Eat Me town.
The gypsy wagon? XD
Nuclear reactors are almost never a good idea. Any vehicle that has to be content with a petty nuclear fission obviously has never been acquainted with the full (over)power of that lovely 1.989 * 10^30 kilogram fusion reactor that we call
THE SUN.
When it comes to being practical, i’m pretty sure that your vehicle might be more maneuverable, but having used Sunslammer III for quite a few seasons ingame, i’ve got to say that for a mobile base, it isn’t the biggest you can get, and by no means is your gypsy wagon the largest practical mobile base. I’d say about the size of Sunslammer II, 13 x 18, is about as big as it’s possible to maneuver around in myself, but even Sunslammer III and it’s 13 x 15 size has problems moving around vehicle wrecks sometimes. The biggest reason why that mobile base might not be the largest practical one is that you don’t seem to have enough storage space to handle a full on base. I count 12 potential storage tiles, which equates to 4800 storage space, and which probably won’t be enough for a lootomaniac like me to store stuff in.
Some tips.
-I assume that you can open the back doors to extend the driver’s FOV?
-Windshields are never worth it, especially those weak ones you’ve got sitting in the most vital position of the vehicle. Switch them out for trunk doors or regular doors, so you can replace them easier and also because they are more durable.
-For pete’s sake, move that motor! That vehicle is not heavy enough to demolish terrain without caring, and I can see many problems arising with having a motor right in the “smashing” zone.
-Add a ram plate. Having an extra tile of smashing between you and a zombie is a very important trait.
-Gas tanks, nope nope nope. Unless you NEED the power, gas tanks and regular gas engines are pure dumbness, because they are very prone to huge explosions. if you’re going to have gas tanks, move them to the middle of the vehicle, not the sides like the default flatbed truck.
-If you’re going for a full on mobile base, you’ll need to add the other vehicle mounted crafting items, the FOODCO BUDDY, the Electric forge, and the chemistry set. Be advised that those and the welding rig and RV unit are all incredibly fragile, so plating them and your solar panels should be a high priority.

In my experience a “full” mobile base that’s maneuverable is an RV with extra space in the back. (One more row of stuff will do it) You can also replace the boards with stowboards now for extra space.
But yeah, unless you’re driving a /huge/ vehicle right now solar is OP enough that you can just drive an electric car about without worrying about it running out of power.
Where in hell did you found the plutonium reactor anyway?
It’s a really low spawn chance in banks
Man, you guys are weird.
All the vehicle I need. Four trunks (empty), one panel, three batteries, one engine. I tend to avoid running into things with it in favor of getting out and doing it myself. The seat ‘contains’ quite a number of things - flashlight, misc. electronics, keys, backup weapons and gear, some drugs. (I’ve forgotten to turn off my headlights! Whee!)
From left to right: two shopping carts used for unloading, kitchen and kitchen buddy with an empty slot where a fridge was going to go before I realized how ridiculous its power requirements would be, welder/forge/chemistry station, and by the glass wall, a small generator powering a floodlight. (All can and will be dragged around during remodeling/getting shit off the floor. Screenshot taken before dawn for maximum effect.)
The generator, for those curious.
My garden (‘It is too cold to plant anything now.’) with the half-constructed fridge vehicle in it, since it’s enclosed but outside. I do not have high hopes for how sustainable the fridge’s power will wind up being, even if I coat it in solar panels and batteries. Unlike the other ‘vehicles’, this one is unlikely to ever move.
Very nice use of real small vehicles!
Heh, I should get a minifridge for Sunslammer, as soon as I find one.
I actually like having stupidly loud engines. Makes clearing out towns incredibly easy.

Like I said, the nuke reactor is just an emergency backup in case I somehow break all four solar panels (or break one or more batteries in the middle of the night). I’ve had pretty poor luck with finding decent armor anywhere, so I’ve had to design the whole vehicle on the assumption that any system (solar panels, gas tanks, primary engine etc) could get completely trashed if I hit something.
It helps that I can just go around any vehicle or monster that I’m not confident I can crush. This thing’s almost as easy to drive as an ordinary truck.
I’ve been planning to move the V6 to the rear for a while now; the gas tanks are already safely mounted next to the internal door. It’s providing the vast majority of engine power right now, so removing it altogether isn’t really an option.
And yeah, I plan to add a ram, bulletproof windshields (I don’t like using doors for windows, it just doesn’t feel right) and extra crafting stations after I actually find the relevant items. I’ve only got a handful of armor plates and will probably have to cheat to complete the kitchen.
What’s this about internal controls and separate lights from the main vehicle?
Overhead lights such as floodlights or police car lights are controlled separately from the headlights. That extra seat in the lower-left corner has a second set of controls, allowing me to control the vehicle without leaving the safety of the back room.
Do we even need beds? Couldn’t we just use chairs forever?
Beds are more comfortable

Reclining chairs?

God yes.
Also how do I armor up my vehicle? With plates and such or just a bunch of shock absorbing frames?
Armor plating protects from collision damage. Extra frames (as of a few days ago) protect from shock damage.
So, basically, ‘both’.
So should I have a T-bar infront of my vehicle with steel plates?
Pretty much yes. How big is for you to decide. It only takes about 10,000 pounds of vehicles to demolish terrain scratchless provided you have hard plating on the front. It may be less, I haven’t tested.
So build a T-bar and the plate it hard and you should be able to demolish terrain quite easily.
I’ve modified a double RV wreck into my mobile base, I made it more streamlined, fixed the wheels, added electric engines, and swapped out all the broken bits and bobs.
i’m trying to maximize storage space on in my armored car, but i want 360 degree field of view. how do i put storage space in the same spot as a quarter panel?
You can’t do that, HunterAlpha.
