This is an alternate universe kid version of one of my characters. I’ve been fiddling around with using limited palettes combined with cell shading to do my works, and I’m experimenting and trying to figure out what really works for stuff like this. Anyways, I had fun with this simple, three hour sketch.
Like many others, I’m not an Artist. I might have creative Ideas, but I can’t draw.
I was into writing stories though. Imagine a 8-9 year old me, sitting in a ‘cave’ made out of chairs and blankets, with toy weapons and a little book, where I played to be a soldier of sorts and wrote journal entries into my book.
…I always liked to roleplay I guess.
In any case, I currently have an ongoing rpg with a friend of mine, in a World my character created (He >was< a god, he did kinda loose his powers though, due to…circumstances I guess.) Of course, this rp needed a worldmap, so I looked around and created a map, with a little bit of help from a website I found.
One should add this to the image: I never bothered to add towns to the map. Or castles. Or points of interest. The world was more or less freshly created, there were no real settlements yet, they were created later, basically while playing the rp. And my character wouldn’t know any settlements anyways, not since he lost his power to be omniscient.
Right, 2 more oddities in the map:
The pink and blue-ish places are supposed to be stoney areas, with lots of magical crystals growing there. They are coloured differently because the left continent mostly has crystals in warm colours (yellow, orange, red, pink, …), while the right continent mostly has colder colours. The purple island is…did you ever play Terraria and saw the corruption? Yeah, kinda like that.
That website must be awesome, because that id rrally pretty. If there is any stories that are worth sharing from that rp, feel free to do so, by the way! Would like to read some stuff!
I’d love to give you the website, but I kinda…lost it? I know i had the link somewhere on my pc, but i don’t know where. it’s certainly not saved in my browser :/. If I ever find it, i’ll let you know.
I am sure DIVOM creator (RPG sub-forum) had a map generator that was good too, can’t find it though. (Should be 4 sub-forums only one with map (and maybe site location) as it was remade, but I cna’t find it that map/mapmaker either.
Something about the warm palette, the painting brush being hard but having something of a 75% opacity, and the contrasting colors. And again, the warmth. It’s too good, and it feels quite well made. Also the perpendicular brush strokes in the floor. That’s my opinion!
So I took part online in the #Cipherhunt started by Alex Hirsch via twitter last month. Gravity Falls puzzles ate my soul, not that I had one to lose haha. But y’kno. There’s always sleep to lose.
I’m hoping to someday get back into attending gaming/media conventions, and plan to do a grown-up version of Dipper Pines. I love the fanart out there of him sporting wicked arm sleeve tatts, but tired of seeing the old cipher wheel figuring front and center.
So I decided to whip up a draft for a tatt design that featured iconography for space, time, and matter, instead! Compass rose, lunar phases, and old alchemical icons for wind, water, earth and air. A nice bit of latin up top (ad astra inclinant, sed non obligant - needs work I hate handwriting but hey, it’s a start) as a nod to grunkle Ford, and WHAT for the compass points as a nod to grunkle Stan. The only iconography featured here from the original cipher zodiac is the large inverted pine tree and the tiny shooting star at the center of the compass.
The censored portion around the wrist is to be Dipper’s real name, suitably encoded into artful ciphers so as to look awesome and spoil nothing.
I also drew this asshole, and thus lost all permissions to use highlighters and gelpens.
I stole them back anyway because I wanted a new avatar for the Cipherhunt’s chatgroup. Everybody loves Bipper the best anyway. Just like I like causing eye trauma by using unfiltered cyan and magenta for gratuitous rim lighting.
