Why so many Ice Labs? Why are they getting cold? I f anything, you should get warmer when you go underground.
I am totally talking to you on IRC as well, but for the benefit of other readers : this particular lab did experiments near 0 Kelvin, and something went wrong. The deeper you go, the colder it gets.
I know. I’m on record as thanking you for the ability to sleep in chairs/sofas, too. Doesn’t mean I like everything you do.
Re 0 K experiments: climate control that low takes a lot of energy. Cutting off or redirecting the power source ought to provide enough juice to light up the nearby city. (Illuminating the Lab itself would be trivial.)
Because of the spawn algorithm the easiest thing to do is to have a 50/50 split right now. If we add more lab types in the future then the percentage reduces.
Personally I’m of the opinion that they simply opened a portal to a very cold place in the depths of the lab. (Which ideally should be able to serve as a lab finale in ice labs). No power required at all.

Well, wouldn’t that be a solution right there? Have Ice Portal as the finale, roll finales when the Lab first gets generated, and Ice Portals create Ice Labs?
(Yeah, I realize that (last I knew) lab finales weren’t set until you hit their floor. Very profitable, that. Would rather Quantum Finales be regulated than have a 50% chance labs won’t be useful to most players.)
Ice labs spawn ice finales, however at the moment those are just carbon copies of regular lab finales ;p I would have to learn how to do stuff to change that to a portal to ice-hell. Or whatever.
Maybe you should.
I actually took a look, and it’s not as dense as I expected. Most of the code in this game is short hand without comments, rendering it impossible to understand, but I think I could manage.
The next hurdle will be a creative one :x
It should be possible to re-merge the “ice lab” and normal lab* definitions, and replace it with a thingy that sets the temperature directly, possibly even having the above ground area be noticeably chilly. Also this would lead to all kinds of new temperature-based shennanigans.
*Um, bad name, nothing normal about labs at all
