Resting!

Are you feeling a pain in your chest? Wha- Your chest health is at two bars! But you’re out of any healing items, and there’s too many zombies to do a run into the city to survive. And you’re not tired enough to sleep. So why don’t you wait for a few hours and rest up?

TL;DR: I want waiting a significant amount of time to heal you a little bit… Like half a bar every hour seems enough.

KA101 leaves a loaded syringe marked “Very Fast Regeneration mutagen”

There you go. Professional courtesy, no charge.

Very Fast Healing is a 20% chance to regain one HP every half hour. Regeneration, the current top-of-the-line healing mutation, is a 50% chance. You’re asking for a 100% chance to regain roughly 3-4 HP per half hour.
In clinical trials, use of Very Fast Regeneration has been linked to player-side skill rust; aversion to risk; the delusion that one is able to squat behind a chest-high wall and excrete bullets from one’s body; the delusion that eating a first-aid kit will instantly repair bodily damage; hives; rashes; and dry mouth.
If you experience an erection lasting for more than 4 seconds while using Very Fast Regeneration, discontinue use and seek medical attention immediately, as this may be a sign of a rare but serious side effect.
Very Fast Regeneration contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause teratogenic effects in laboratory animals.
Quitting Very Fast Regeneration NOW greatly reduces your cancer risk.

Gahdang it Ka

Wait, KA, people become more cautious when they get Very Fast Regen? I always take it as hearty permission to wade Zweihander first into a mob of whatever I see because I know I’ll regen most of the damage on the way back to base.

VF Regen doesn’t actually exist. That was me being Mean to poor Ninja.

(And risk-aversion was more “I don’t want the game to have serious danger”, not failing to use the regen.)

And a clever dig at current game trends that make all wounds mysteriously disappear after a period of time. (I’m Looking at you, “Watch_Dogs” on “realistic”)

I’m running out of iron rations and can’t rest to regain my spells!

(And risk-aversion was more “I don’t want the game to have serious danger”, not failing to use the regen.)
I have some form of regeneration (probably Very Fast Healing) and use it to wade sword first into whatever horde I’m looking at.

How fast does sleeping heal you? How fast would it be at 1/4 effectiveness? Would VFH be faster than that?

I like the idea of resting, but it would need to be balanced so that it’s useful and doesn’t displace any of the healing mutations.

(Bonus joke idea: Soldier Regeneration - When you take damage you get progressively more blinded by blood. If you spend a few minutes without taking damage, this will fade off and you will regenerate back to full health.)

Sleeping–as distinct from resting–is much more effective w/o mutations than it probably ought to be, and is a major methodd of healing. (Losing this healing is one of the counterbalances to the less-sleep mutations.) If you have a healing-upgrade mutation, sleeping will probably restore you to full health.

So I’m not inclined to give resting any healing bonus. Since using a medpack or bandages takes time, that’s the “rest” that heals. I’d be willing to consider being able to take extra time for a bonus to the First Aid roll, but I don’t think we can easily do that at this point.

I would be OK with constant healing over time, but to add it I’d like to see healing from sleep rebalanced so you get roughly the same amount of healing in a day as you do now. In other words any new healing over time would come at the expense of healing from sleep, and it should be very slow.
