Needful things (simple additions to improve the game)

One thing I wish I could craft is a gasoline lantern.

I’ve only found one gasoline lantern in one playthrough and I wish I could craft them now. Prior to getting a vehicle up and running, gasoline isn’t used except for weapons. You can already craft an oil lamp but if you are surviving in a city you won’t come across the materials to make the oil often outside of hunting down fat zombies. I looked at gas lanterns manuals like this and they seem pretty complicated so to balance out the more abundant fuel make the gasoline lantern tougher to craft than the oil lamp?

Looks red to me, but I’m colorblind.

it is red. Thats the problem.

Ditto, same, and upvoted

I’ll file a gas lantern PR tonight.

…thats basically a tiki torch without a tall stick stand.

Wick would be cotton if Im not mistaken glued into a metal case, should be easy enough with some scrap metal to make.

Ingredients>? 1-2 scrap metal, 1 rag?

sound about right? its basically just a molotov you don’t break. Oh… could be craft able with just a tin can, aluminum can, or a glass bottle of some sort instead of scrap metal.

an action in the survival menu to flip tables

wrong thread? But that makes me think. Blockading doors and windows, not just boarding them up should be a thing if its not already.

We should totally be able to write on paper to make our own journals, or to note some stuff you gotta fine/to-do list.
It would also help story-writers too, so we can’t forget stuff.

Putting furniture next to a closed door makes it harder to bash down from the other side.

I’d love a more involved healing/injury system where first-aid kits are activated/disassembled to reveal exactly what’s in them. That way every injury would need different stuff to fix (Like using tweezers to pull a bullet out of your arm, needle/thread to stitch up a cut, etc)

Bandages should only stop bleeding/reduce the chance of a normal cut getting infected

Sleeping healing could be dialed back

Certain wounds (like gunshots) should be especially grievous, reducing max health of a limb until properly treated

That’s basically how project zomboid has it. Works alright but you run into situations where you’re shit out of luck unless you get lucky with RNG.

Ugh. The micro. I think MREs are crap because of the disassembly micro.

don’t they sometimes pop out irradiated stuff as well? Whats up with that? Where has the MRE been going INSIDE the managing its absorbed dangerous amounts of radiation?

Edit: also please make it an option to change when mobs disappear from the directional compass waring hud thing.

Irradiated food doesn’t mean it’s dangerously radioactive, it means it went through a radiation procedure to kill bacteria.

This why you can buy a bag of apples from the store and still have them be edible a month later. the fruit doesn’t rot and decay simply because it’s rotting and decaying, it’s because of the bacteria IN the fruit. You kill the bacteria and you massively slow down the decay process. There is some variation to the above based on sugar content, if they are any breaks in the skin of the fruit/veggie, etc.

an in game way to irradiate food for preservation?

aaaaaand totally only just now realized that you linked to a wiki page about food irradiation… sigh, where’s the coffee?

This.

Disassembling first aid kits just to use the components is a bad idea.

what if it was done so first aid kits have whats needed, and you use what you need to patch yourself up instead of the whole thing? Or maybe get the items back you didn’t use when using the first aid kit.

FAKs having multiple counters for components is somewhat reasonable.
