A potato flashlight launcher.
You can already do that. A raw potato is a valid ingredient for making batteries, which you can then load into the flashlight.
Adding to that, just absurd “historical” weapons for the heavy-duty mutants and cyborgs.
I’m already salivating at the thought of greatbows, hand-held ballistas and ULTRA-greatswords/axes/mauls. Muh Dark Souls.
Just don’t make them loot. Just make them something you can craft.
I like this! Support.
We need to have one of those self defense flashlights that Law Enforcement use.
Now that infighting among factions/monsters is in, is there any chance some mutations could get you ‘added’ to a faction other then player? Might make for a radically different experience. We may be years (or never) off from, say, an Insect Queen player, but if a post-threshold Insectoid got added to the mutant insect faction, their game would be entirely different. Same with Triffid/Plant mutants.
Barring that, a debug command to do it.

I could see the military making prototype equipment for the mutants and cyborgs. Although I would expect them to mostly be firearms, I expect that most of the hopes for heavy-weapons users would be incompatible with infiltration. At most I would expect a small, extremely high-performance lance for stabbing through barriers.
So maybe some of the more dangerous locales might produce a 60mm sniper rifle or a 20mm double fluid-cooled machine gun. Or the afore-mentioned lance that could presumably be activated to damage the contents of an adjacent tile and a tile beyond it. But a home-made greater-sword or zweiuberhander would make sense…
Let’s use cash cards to pop open locked house doors. Maybe, house locks are still tumblers (I’m guessing from the lockpicks).
Make the vehicle storage less cluttered. It would be much easier to sort through my soda collection if it showed:
12 aluminum cans of energy drink
7 aluminum cans of dark cola
(This is just an example, my real soda collection has hundreds of cans of soda in it.)
But if I put those into a vehicle storage container as of now, it would show “aluminum can of energy drink” 12 times, making it much harder to sort through.
Edit: This could probably be said for ground tiles as well.

You’re looking for the advanced inventory function, which is mapped to / by default. It’s a little difficult to get used to (hence “advanced”), but you can hit ? with the Advanced Inventory open for a list of commands. Or I could try to walk you through it.
Add metal working lathes, milling machines and other machine tools into the game so we can justify crafting more complicated stuffs.
As someone who does sales in a plant that has a large assortment of c&c machines, milling machines, and lathes, I can tell you, with 100% confidence, that not only is there -zero- chance these would survive day one of the cataclysm, but there is absolutely no way for a player to repair them. It takes full time staff scouring the country (and sometimes literally the world) to keep the older, easier to repair machines working, and thats using people who have repaired those specific machines for 20+ years. These things break down constantly, they are unreliable, and finnicky as hell. I can’t speak to newer machines, or 3d printing, or whatever, but machines of the sort you are talking about barely work -today-, without intensive manpower and resources, let alone some survivor with an electronics book and a toolset. Not going to happen.
You’re thinking “computerized machines”. They very much not need to be computerized.
And purely mechanical ones are not just well in the possibility of creating and maintaining alone, they’re easier to create than a lot of the stuff done in CDDA.
P.S. Also, you said “does sales”. Which means you’re not working with these machines.
A sales rep associated with a place that uses machine tools (whether selling to the place, or selling the place’s products) will only be more effective by knowing the plant’s business. Such knowledge permits selling to the plant’s needs and/or being better able to extol the virtues of the plant’s goods to potential buyers.
It still sharply conflicts with my experience of both mechanical machinery and computerized machinery (the latter routinely taking the abuse of educating new workers and still only needing maintenance, not repair). But that’s Soviet Union building quality, I guess. Perhaps other countries built their machines to have them repaired instead of used. Or they’re machines I’ve never seen, and thus can’t speak about.
How did they make rifles prior to, you know, the twentieth century? And shouldn’t it be possible to build a Sten Gun? I mean, the whole point of the thing is to be crazy easy to build…
I mean, a modern, high-speed lathe is, no doubt, prone to wear, what with its high-speed it probably sees as many rotations in an afternoon that a historical lathe might see in a year. But with the proper tools it should be possible to get extreme consistency even with minimal revolutions…
A Sten gun really does seem like a pretty reasonable thing for a survivor to hand-make…

Friendly monsters should be able to board vehicles and not get killed when I drive them. All I want is for my widdle babby blob to accompany me on my adventures.
