Needful things (simple additions to improve the game)

How about beeing able to grow more plants? Carrots, potatoes etc.? Or are they already put in and I haven’t found the seeds yet?
But to be honest:
You can easily make your own seeds from carrots, potatoes etc. Simply cut the top part +3 extra centimetres of the carrot off and plant it (I’m talking about cutting the carrot and not the top green part), a potatoe can be cut into multiple parts that can be used as seeds and you can even plant them if they go bad.
Rhubarb only needs a part to grow (10+ centimetres), cucumbers have their seeds in their watery inside (like tomatoes) and you can even grow your own tobaccoo (if you find seeds).

I know that stuff because we have a small vegetable garden at home and the tobaccoo part is also doable (just look at germany after WW2 where the ppl in the cities grew tobaccoo to trade for other stuffs). And also please make it so that we can make seeds from the fruits themselfs, which is realistic and will help in many situations. I found myself more than often with fruits (corn, carrots, potatoes…) but not with seeds for them even though you can EASILY make seeds form them (ofc not from the canned/irradiated versions).

Corn and carrot seeds are in; potato, rhubarb, cucumber, and tobacco seeds aren’t. Fresh rhubarb can be found foraging in underbrush, though.

I requested more seeds, myself. Stuff like rice and oats, which should actually be doable in rainy New England. Zucchini seeds would also be nice, so that we could make our own V8 (bonus points if we can can it). Or poppy seeds for keeping our medicine cabinet stocked. Or maybe hemp seeds should produce plant fiber for sewing/ropes/fabric/etc. as well as cannabis, though that’s probably not really important with all the ready sources of those in the game. Hm.

Oh, maple trees, and sap collection, and boiling sap into maple sugar for sustainable pancakes and waffles!

You can make your own V8, and the rest of this is probably doable (though those are mutant poppies, and so not require your attentions for cultivation).

Oh, I know we can make our own V8. We just can’t plant zucchini or broccoli, which are required for the recipe.

On poppies: do they self-repopulate, or do you have to keep roaming for pre-spawned poppies?

Ah. Missed the repeated “can” there, and no, aluminum cans aren’t resealable.

I know aluminum cans aren’t resealable, but by “canning” I actually meant the glass jars, which have some sealing recipes in the game and I’d totally love more for things like soups and broths and sauces. (Even if they require, say, a vacuum sealer, that gives that part of the kitchen buddy a damn fine use.)

Fair enough.

Power Armor Sunglasses… more like for space like golden plated to protect against really bright flashes, and makes you feel like more of a badass

Oooh, I’ve got one.

Harvesting sand from sandboxen in parks. Not really necessary for glass, since glass shards are abundant, but it’d be useful for the new construction options requiring things like mortar and concrete. I’ve checked sandboxen out, but they don’t contain anything when I examine them, and only drop wood and nails when disassembled or smashed.

a starting scenario where you spawn in the survivor construction which has many survivors there

The mod idea that has been shuffling around in my head but I am too lazy to make happen.

Would harvesting scrap metal as a recipe from like, 2 or 3 aluminium/tin cans make sense?

Isn’t that something, that the trash compactor does? I may have misunderstood what it does though, I’ve never used it.

I wouldn’t mind being able to build my own recycler units or at least being able to drag one (admittedly I have no idea how heavy they are). As it stands you either need to make your base where they already are or mark them on your map and make a trip every time you want to scrap stuff.

Granted I don’t use them much, so I opted for the latter. They’re handy for scrapping robot corpses if you’d rather have a shitload of metal than electronics scrap, though.

Unsure also, but I’d assume so? However, it would make sense to me because it’s pretty easy to rip aluminium cans with your bare hands into some sort of usable scrap. Unsure about tin cans; bashing them against the floor for usable scrappy stuff works.

Also +1 for buildable recycle thing. Having mountains of drunk cans of shitty unhealthy energy drinks annoy me…

Cans are already usable scrap. They can be used as cases for homemade batteries and various consumable ‘bomb’/‘grenade’ weapons and the like.

I know that, it’s just I lack the materials to mass-produce grenades/batteries/blah. I’m talking about cans -> generic scrap metal.

I got the idea of breaking down aluminium cans into generic scrap metal today: I finished my can of cherry coke, twisted and ripped the can to shreds for no apparent reason and kept ripping it and ripping it until I had a nice, neat pile of cherry coke can remains. Looking at the pile of metal strips I’d created with my hands alone, I thought ‘hey this could be a thing’.

What if we could use staplers, soldering irons and duct tape in cardboard boxes, tin cans and plastic bags respectively to seal them and make food last a little longer in them? (maybe using the crafting menu to craft “conserved food”)

Edit: We could also add in those thermal bags and bottles to help conserving, maybe add a portable ice machine or something that runs on batteries, in a way that we could add water and turn it into ice and maybe use that ice in thermal bottles and thermal bags.

Distilled mutagen- less powerfull then normal mutagen but 1-3 ratio, and its a bit nicer to your body.

Decks of playing cards. Can be used repeatedly for a marginal morale gain. Or, tear them up for paper. Throw tarot cards in for a higher (placebo) effect on morale. I’m not sure if the occult should make an appearance in CDDA, but it still might be interesting.
