Needful things (simple additions to improve the game)

waaaaaa? i think we have bigger fish to filet.

Wanted: bigger fish to filet.

What annoys me is that I can craft my own holster that is, inexplicably, too small to hold my RM99 revolver. I understand it’s a big gun and might not fit a standard holster, but if I’m making a holster myself, it makes no sense for it to be too small to hold my pistol. We have the option to make plus-sized armour for fatties and mutants and mutant fatties, but we can’t make plus-sized holsters for zaftig revolvers?

Reaching a certain size that holster turns into a bag.

I think it just wouldn t be easy to atach a Holster big enough to you without encumbering that bodypart somewhat.
Not meaning it would encumberance per say but it wouldn t layer as easy as a normal sized holster.

Arrows should have a cooking value same as a skewer, mainly cause it also is pretty much a pointy stick that can hold meat on it.

Game needs a better source of tires, in particular for bicycles. Been searching all around for a replacement tire for a bicycle I found in the mall and so far no luck. A few suggestions for sites include a junkyard filled with highly damaged vehicles you can loot for parts, including a pile of wrecked bicycles. Also, perhaps a cycling shop filled with one-piece riding suits and cycling helms, display bikes etc. It would be different than the sporting goods store in that it would specifically cater to cyclists.

Another suggestion is a landfill site, that, now unmaintained is filled with dangerous gas hazards but has land fill pile sections you can excavate with a shovel to scavenge for things. Digging out a pile can give random types of loot and hazards you have to deal with. Different skill checks and other things could serve as hazards, so while digging you can cut yourself on hidden metal and need disinfectant if your armor fails to defeat an attack (severity of which based on how badly you fail an initial dexterity check) Other things, such as collapses, hidden zombies, etc could serve as additional hazards.

A fleshed out version would be digging into the landfill and excavating large piles of random refuse from the “trash walls” that make up the z-level underneath a landfill.

If by tortillas you mean the chips, sure to all of 'em, and it’s all JSON so someone could slam that out in an hour or so.

I agree. You can make tortillas from scratch. You just need flour or masa (corn), water and something to flatten them. Season the mix to taste, and add some form of fat (or butter/ oil/ bacon) to the tortilla MIX (whenever you see bubbles it is from mixed in fat), you don’t even need it in the pan and I am fairly positive that any fat is for taste/ texture and therefore optional. You can dry fry them without any problems (they come out better dry fried). I have made alot of tortillas from scratch.

Although… your recipe for flatbread, and the things made from flatbread look suspiciously like tortillas. From what I can tell the main difference between the two is whether you bake or fry them. Maybe flatbread is thicker?

According to CDDA recipes tacos can be made without water and require salt so what do I know.

The idea is not to get too specific. Do we really need tortillas, pita bread, and naan? They’re all similar enough that I figured we could lump them together as “flatbread.” After all, we just have “bread,” rather than sourdough, rye, pumpernickel, baguette, etc.

We’d accept specialty breads, though. That PR failed for difficulty getting the types nailed down. Here, tortillas could be used to make wraps, pita for sandwiches and gyros, and naan adds to curry.

KA101 eats all the breads

I would love to see different ways to store small amounts of items on motorcycles, just like you can store smaller things in car doors and tables.

Rifle/sword scabbards on the sides, as well as bags. As comparison, I always have a loaded sanwoff shotgun and some shells in the door next to the driverseat, for those “close to death” moments.

An example on how you could have a gun scabbard on a bike:

Should be easy to make too, just make it a new vehicle part, the material needed could be a scabbard or backpack.

From another thread:

What about a craftable radio/radar thingy that runs on batteries/ups/comes in form of bionic that senses high electro magnetic activities and beebs when shokers, consoles and robots are around? Just a little idea on the side note.

Reading discussion about the “omnivore” mutation and then the bread discussion here got me thinking. What about an “edible world” mod? A mod which makes Cataclysm take place in an alternate candy world where everything is edible? Gingerbread houses. Rock candy weapons. Graham cracker armour. Rivers of chocolate. Marzipan monsters. Maybe this should go in the “bad ideas” thread, but I know I would play a mod like that.

Differentiation between “Hard Plastic” and “Soft Plastic” chunks could be addressed. Several recipes where different types of plastic are used for repair of wildly different hardnesses. The same material used in a rain coat is not the same as in a soft plastic bottle. I feel that some items should drop hard plastic and others drop soft plastic chunks. A recipe using acetone, or fingernail polish remover could allow the player to harden or soften plastic as necessary to convert between the two types with appropriate tools. Ergo a player could melt down soft plastic patches and condense them into hard plastic sheets/chunks or vice versa dependent on cooking skill and recipe knowledge.

This leads to another suggestion: Fiberglass or Hard Plastic Quarterpanels on vehicles. It seems pretty strange that electric cars have steel quarterpanels. You’d be pretty pressed to find many late model car today with quarterpanels made entirely of metal. This is likely even more so in the future. So if anyone’s willing, we could use some less-metallic quarterpanels for our vehicles

This would complicate the whole thing needlessly imo.

Lets just asume that the player uses the plastic he has to form it (and harden it if needed) into the required shape.

Crafting menu: The total amount of a resource in brackets after the required amount.

I can’t help but feel that bows should always default to the last-fired arrow-type if it is available and that the ammunition-selection panel should be manually accessible at any time.

@Catfoodbob -> that would mean a leap into polymers.

Sand in bottles. Many, many uses.

Survivor Stove . Get a regular, two-pounder tin can and wrap tight a roll of toilet paper before sticking it inside. Moist the stuffed paper with alcohol only when the roll is inside the can and light the alcohol fumes, just above the tin can. Since the paper will not burn, you can reuse this stove many times, or as long as you’ve got some (rather pure) alcohol on you.

Graphine fiber cloths- a really strong catagory of expensive cloths that really do not help against electricity.

Bulk manufacturing shouldn’t be all-or-nothing, especially when, as with pemmican, there’s no benefit to making it bulk rather than one-by-one except fewer keystrokes.
