Moral penalty for killing animals (not hostile) with animal empathy?

I consider myself a person with quite the animal empathy and it would upset me having to kill whichever animal that wasn’t attacking me, (and even then, it would probably still affect me to a lesser extent even if I was being attacked) even as a last resort necessity for eating, and I’d believe there are others out there who would feel the same way.

Wouldn’t it be realistic this to be somehow represented?

Negative trait mebby?

Or maybe a new class of traits that are neither positive or negative and have bonuses and maluses that balance themselves out, like animal empathy would be with the added negative consequences that I’m proposing.

Worth thinking about. Bit booked ATM but will keep in mind.
