It always seemed odd to me that zombie soldiers could drop a gun and several different ammunition types that don’t fit it. In a situation like this it’s understandable that some of them would have been using whatever is available because of insufficient supplies or logistical problems or something but most would still be using standard issue equipment. I’m thinking that most of them should drop a (damaged?) HK416/M4 or any other assault rifle and 0-40 rounds of whatever ammunition it fires. Some could have specialist equipment like grenade launchers, DMRs/sniper rifles, LMGs etc. This could cause balance problems with soldiers being walking loot but I think it’s worth considering.
I think this ain t a bad idea. if the spawn of said weapons is rare enough its all good(+ think about those weapon shops and gun nut basements with tons of guns… not like theresa sewere lack of weaponry). The chance that a zombie will actually carry a gun arround in its hands is aproximatly nill imo so we would only get weapons that have been shouldered /holstered (which should be rare as we can asume that those soldiers didn t die voluntary… )

Most zombie soldiers would still have their weapons attached to them. The only caveat would be if they had run out of ammo and were using melee, in which case they should have a chance at dropping a melee weapon.
As to the ammo issue, I think 0-40 is about right; they would have been low on ammo when they got overrun, and would have been pumping out rounds as fast as possible so if not to save their own lives, then to take as many undead bastards down with them as possible.
On the other hand, maybe the chance of finding a stray zombie soldier with a full combat ammo loadout, being one who just gave up and refused to fight.
so they keep the weapon atached to a sling while using it? in that case yes most soldiers would still be ´carrieing theire weapon if not then no.

So most soldiers would be carrieing theire weapon. unless they are newbies that do not know how to shoot they should have run out of money before they die in most cases because shooting zombies down with a military standart weapon is piece of cake(even hulks :P)
Perhaps if they got suprised while reloading or shot down by some of those chicken walkers or tank drones they should still hold some amunition.
Anyway having them carry standart weapons and rarely apropriate amunition (the caliber theire gun would be using obviously) seems apropriate-

zombie soldier - half loaded smg/small rifle or knife and some medical items, up to 1 grenade and 2 smoke grenades (medic)

A sidearm, ok. but not necessarily loaded. (bullets got used up)
Also after the sidearm had no bullets, they may have thrown it to a zed and lost it, so no real need to always drop guns too.
They could even have used the gun as a club until it fell apart and they discarded it.
…so i’d say reasonable chances to get a gun and / or matching bullets, but certainly not 100%
Frag grenades for regular troops. High explosive ones for specialists.

i hated when every troop was giving it to me when i have dragon tooth but in cataclysm having more knifes can be sometimes good as a trade currency with npc “i give you 321514252346 combat knifes for that (active)mininuke”

so maybe 100% to get combat knife?[/quote]What I originally meant was that while in normal times, most soldiers don’t go armed unless they’re in a combat zone, and some don’t even go armed IN combat zones(chaplains for example), in the cataclysm EVERY soldier would go armed ALL the time, with the very minimum being a sidearm(handgun, knives are not considered weapons in the military).
