Mattress aren’t for comfort?

It’s a bit of a bummer that you cant sleep on plain ol’ mattresses and instead the game wants you to go trough the trouble of building bed.

Made me sad considering that I lugged down a huge matress all the way to my forest hobo camp only to see my survivor sleeping the pile of dirt over a good mattress

Activate the mattress to deploy it on the ground.

As Turn said. You can just lay a mattress on the ground from the (a)ctivate menu.
