Well one other thing this mod is good for is actually giving a reason to keep those AT weapons around. Demon Spider Queens being apparently built like a tank need to be treated as one.
anyone suggest a ‘levitate’ spell yet? It would work like stairs, using the < or > keys after casting to go up or down a z level while still being afloat. And if you screw up and run out of mana you can fall flat on your face in true cataclysm fashion.
could someone give me some link to download this mod?
Magiclysm comes with the game in the experimental builds. If you are playing 0.D stable you will need to update to the experimental to be able to use this mod.
oh thanks, hehe could you pass me the link of some experimental version that already has it?
any experimental in the last 6 months.
How do I get in on the “+1”, “+2” etc equipment? Is it just a matter of finding the right building/spawn?
yup. you can find them in areas that were specifically added to be magical.
So a couple days ago I wrote out some lore; it ended up being a lot about the details of the different classes and just a couple notes about the world. https://github.com/CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA/blob/5231875c30555f134dd02a48f0ef26a1cec6a585/data/mods/Magiclysm/lore.md
Whenever I see a ‘wizard tower’ on my overmap it turns out to be a perfectly ordinary house when visited. Any idea what might be causing this?
Wizard towers look like ordinary houses… on the first floor. Did you try going upstairs and see what you find?
Ah, got it. The first tower I found was chock-full of plastic golems and not much else, so when others had full living arrangements with kitchens, bedrooms etc on the first floor it threw me.
Edit: perhaps, on measured reflection, I will have to concede that dynamite was not the best way past that locked metal door if I intended to retrieve anything from this tower.
I just want to talk about the difference between Dragonhide armour and Dragonscale armour.
Dragonscale armour is heavier and more encumbering and takes more stuff to make, but offers exactly the same protection as Dragonhide (20 bash 32 cut).
Other Dragonhide armour pieces only offer 10/16 armor. Should the Dragonhide armour be 10/16 as well?
On a related note, should the Dragonscale armour be Outer layer like plate mail? That way you could wear both sets if you felt really excessive.
wow ok, thanks for the bug report.
I’ve had trouble casting some ranged spells, such as magic missile. When I try and cast it, I get a popup letting me aim, telling me to use the LMB to aim and the RMB to fire (or something similar, I know it says RMB to fire). It doesn’t mention any keys that can be used. But I can move the target with the usual direction keys. But when I click the RMB or hit ENTER, I get a popup asking me if I want to quit casting (Y or N) and warning me that I’ll lose the time put into it. Nothing I have tried has managed to actually fire the spell at the target. I always end up having to select Y and quit the casting.
On the other hand, some spells, such as rockbolt, work just fine. I get the aiming popup, and either RMB or ENTER causes the spell to fire as expected. But it still only tells me about the mouse buttons, not the keys that I can use.
I don’t have a list of which spells seem to work and which ones don’t, but I’m sure that magic missile has problems, and I think the lighting type spell you start with as a Stormshaper (I think it’s lightning bolt) also had problems the last time i tried a Stormshaper.
I’ve seen this on multiple recent builds, across a few different characters. Is anyone else seeing this? I haven’t seen it reported.
are you aiming it at a valid target? (listed in the spell) for example, magic missile does not have “ground” as a valid target, so you have to target a creature with it in order to cast it.
Ah, I didn’t notice a list of valid targets. I was aiming at a practice target I’d marked on the ground. Now that I look for it, I see “Valid Targets: hostile” in the description in the spellcasting popup.
Hmmm, that will make it difficult to practice. And with only doing 1 point of damage at level 1, it means I have to cast it a lot in combat, knowing it won’t be at all helpful until it levels up several times. Really? This seems less than useful. Maybe if I survive several hundred fights with one hand figuratively tied behind my back by using it instead of something that might actually hurt my opponent, it might become useful. If I survive that long.
Don’t practice spells, it’s a super slow way of levelling them up and doesn’t increase Spellcraft. Read the book some more instead.
Maybe you could lead a group to a gun store? With the barred windows, you could safely cast at the group at your leisure so long as you didn’t open up the place by taking out a wall.
Actually, in the game I started to test it, I did the wizard’s vacation scenario, and quickly discovered that those hyper-hostile pikes and muskies are great practice targets. So was the mink that came up and attacked me, then tried to flee after my first missile hit it.
