SVS-24: The army of the Russian Federation adopted this rifle in the year 2024 to replace its aging AK-s. The rifle was produced by the same Izhevsk Machinebuilding Plant, that produced the famous AK family of rifles. The rifle bears the name of its designer, Sarafanov Assault Rifle, model 2024 (Shturmovaya Vintovka Sarafanova(not sure if my russian is ok :)) . The rifle uses an unusual caliber, one could say, that the 6.54x42 rifle cartridge is the blend of the 7.62x54R and the 5.45x39. Alexander Sarafanov was inspired by the unsuccessful XM-32 Rifle, which used an improved and shortened .270 cartridge. It lost the competition for the service rifle of the US Army, because the Rivtech firearms were preferred. A copy of the SVS-24 is available in the US, which was manufactured locally by Clearwater Arms, although original models can be found in the arsenal of various federal agencies for evaluation purposes.
SVS-24C: This is the compact version of the SVS-24. Smaller, lighter, with folding stock. It was issued mainly to tank crews, police and special forces. This model is less accurate and has stronger recoil due to the shorter barrel and the light weight.
CW-24: The civilian version of the SVS-24. It was manufactured by Clearwater Arms, Georgia. The rifle fires only semi-automatic. It became a popular hunting, sporting and recreational weapon before the apocalypse. Although the ammo for it was not cheap, it doesn’t matter anymore.
These rifles are capable to fire the 6.54x42mm T cartridge, which has tremendous armor piercing capabilities due to its tungsten carbide core.
…
I like these, but do you think it would be possible to add a recipe to convert the civilian model to the full-auto military one? This is something people do sometimes in real-life (not that I approve of it),and considering this is Cata, where gun laws do not apply, this sounds like something a mechanically-minded survivor would do.
To my knowledge, the answer is no. There are no such “conversion kits” in the game right now, and that would require a change in the code, not just json modding.
But why dont you make them use 7.62 like the Ak uses, you know just so we don’t have more ammo that only works with a few guns, you could then have 7.62 tungsten carbide rounds and say that they were specially distributed to members of special forces only. You know backwards compatibility and reliance in cheap manufacture costs is mostly what Russia/The Soviet Union is famous of as far as i am concerned.
Also, shooting more common ammo would make them quite different from the Rivtech guns, I could use the assault rifle with the most common ammo most of the time and then switch too the carbide rounds rounds when shit really needs to get done, instead of carrying two firearms around like I do with the Rivtechguns. (Think of it as using the MGR in metro 2033 if you have played the game)

Yes, I understand, but I don’t agree with the backwards compatibility regarding ammo. The Soviet Union abandoned the 7.62x39mm round in 1974, when they adopted the AK-74 and the 5.45x39mm round. Although Mikhail Kalashnikov said many times, that it was a stupid decision and the army would fare better if they were equipped with an improved 7.62x39, the 5.45x39 is the standard military round of the Russian army to this date.
Well, maybe I could include CW-24 with a 7.62x39 barrel. Clearwater Arms could produce an SVS-24 derivate for those budget shooters, which don’t want to pay for that expensive 6.54x42.
Damn right! The Soviet union abandoned the 7.62mm round a good while ago! Would I had known more about firearms I would have said make them shoot 5.45x39 ammo. I also like the idea of having a 5.45 version for most of the russian army and then have a 6.54x42mm version for special forces.
But I like the ideas anyways, i am fine with whatever you choose to do at the end.
Well, I’ve decided to include a 5.45x39 variant. The 7.62x39 is already in the game.
By the way…
After a minor tweaking and debugging I fired up the game, went in a military surplus and found the modern rifleman. It has a recipe for the basic 6.54x42 now. Yes… you can’t craft the one with the tungsten carbide core. Tungsten carbide has a melting point of 2,870C. Way beyond the capabilities of an average survivor.
It doesn’t need hard coding, just add a crafting recipe that uses the civilian gun as a component. Most “civilian” guns like this are just the regular gun with some little bit added to disable full-auto. Probably don’t even need extra parts for the conversion, just some tools and skill.

Added:
CW-24M - The standard CW-24 model. It was just rechambered for the 5.45x39mm.
5.45x39mm- comparable to the 5.56. Lacks the armor piercing capability, but is very effective against live tissue.
Modified CW-24 - You can now modify your CW-24 to fire full auto. It is not that easy. You have to learn that recipe from a book named “Case #5846, Illegal Gun Modification” . It can be usually found on Zombie Cops or in police stations. You can find the modified gun itself in the Police evidence, but it’s pretty rare.
Todo:
Add the Modified CW-24M.
Test and tweak, twist and shout.
And now this is PR’d as a full on mod manager mod.
This strikes me as an insanely awesome thing that’s happening because these weapons have gathered significant flak from some people. That it’s now well on the way to being merged as a mod manager mod gives me hope that future content and preexisting content can utilize this system for everybody’s benefit.
Well, I could make a Clearwater Arms version of a Dragunov like rifle, that fires the more common .308.
Is that ok?
dwarfkoala:
Yes, the mod will be merged with the main release and will be loaded through the Mod manager, just like the DinoMod.
I will post a report about the status of the project and the current weapons soon.
SVS-24, SVS-24C, CW-24 : 6.54x42mm.
CW-24M : 5.45x39mm
CW-24K : 7.62x39mm
Modified CW-24: It can fire full auto. You have to learn the recipe from a book though. It can be found on zombie cops and in police stations.
Modified CW-24M : Same.
I did not made a modified K model, because there is the AK-47 in the core game.
The modified weapons are not so durable and their rate of fire is slower, because you had to tinker with the receiver, trigger mechanism and had to install a full-auto bolt carrier, which you have to make from scrap metal.
