How did you last die?

I saw a survivor getting surrounded by zombies and went to help him. He returned the favor by heading into my base and stealing some of my stuff. I suggested he not do that, with my katana, but unfortunately failed to make the necessary impression (in his skull). The corresponding shotgun riposte sent my face in many different directions.

Weā€™re working on that.

WELP apparently 120mm HEAT rounds now do around 200 times as much damage as they used to, and I canā€™t survive even one. It did ~7500 damage and the blood trail stretches off the screen.

Speaking of which, do the HEAT rounds explode? Because likeā€¦ they really shouldnā€™t, that is most assuredly not how the Munroe effect works.

BASICALLY: A HEAT round works by a shaped explosive acting on a copper lining inside the shell, causing the lining to liquefy and get launched in a thin jet into the enemy armour. This jet is INCREDIBLY hot, enough to melt the armour of a tank, and also goes at somewhere around Mach 12. It carves its way through a tank in an instant of a second, and brings with it any melted chunks of armour it created/tore through. Incredibly effective against most kinds of armoured vehicle, generally ineffective against reactive armour. Very ineffective against infantry on the ground what with having very little splash damage capability.
Although HEAT rounds may have an anti-personnel explosive component, itā€™s not that effective compared to dedicated HE rounds.

Now Canister shell rounds would be hilariously cruel, and be effective against infantry.

Yup, they explode.

Yep, I checked out the explosion size, long story short, thatā€™s a 120mm HE shell, most assuredly not a HEAT round.

I guess someone needs to change the name of the HEAT to HE.

Working as designed, then. I was a bit perturbed when I read that you survived a few hits from the main cannon back in the Test The Tankbot thread.

String freeze.

And if you want to write up a better penetration effect, feel free. I was more concerned with making sure the cannon wrecked vehicles (it still feels a bit underpowered in that role) than had the proper armor-piercing explosion.

(Youā€™ll find that LAW rockets have a similar blast.)

That said, Iā€™m thinking AI rework so it only uses the primary if youā€™re in a vehicle. The GL is dual-purpose.

So the tank drone would be preserving ammo against you because your not a vehicle? well lucky me then.

survivor approaches tank drone, lugging shopping cart

survivor accidentally steps onto shopping cart

HEā€™S IN A VEHICLE KABOOM

Thus was the rampant use and abuse of shopping carts Discouraged. (Besides, itā€™d go for the 40mm frag rounds in that situation before you stepped on the cart.)

So I needed to start a new game, and decided the best way to go out was with a bang:

I set C4 so each tile of my vehicle went off every turn.

It was working great until the fuel tanks went. XD

spiked plating+windshield is realy durable in 4 days old experimental survived 6 shots in a car and one shot do 7500 damage

Disaster struckā€¦ And I thought I was being clever!

Groaning zombies to the east, a fence to my west. ā€œAh HA!ā€ thought I, ā€œParkour saves!ā€. Leaped up on the fenceā€¦ Zombies wander in from east, then a few from the westā€¦ ā€œOh crapā€, said Iā€¦ So I started E-ing my way north along the fence rail ā€œParkour, Parkour, Parkour, Parkour, Parkour, Parā€¦ Oh crapā€¦ā€ 5 or 6 zombies waiting on the north end of the fence lineā€¦

I cried a littleā€¦

I got caught off guard by a turret. I was used to them being little plinky guns that annoyed you to death if you stood around long enough, but this time it shot four or five bursts of sustained fire at me and downed me before I could move away.

I like the new turrets.

one time a stumbled upon a turret, i tried getting back behind a tree, but it shot me so much that even before i died i was in 297 painā€¦

Edit: current character just died, stepped on three consecutive landmines cause i wanted to start over without hordes on

Soā€¦ No one has died in for more than 24 hours? That canā€™t be right.

Also, pre-emptive mini-necromancy for this thread.

players are better and stronger everyday in long future everybody will have 103423 computer skills and over 1351461 years survived

I just havenā€™t had chance to play since focusing on the game through benadryl wasnā€™t exactly working out for me XD

Had a chance! Updated game to 0.A-2363

I have no idea what build Zach Tailor was originally started in. Either way, heā€™d just woken up and downed his first batch of mutagen, somehow the ursine stuff got completely cancelled out by the generic variety so I still wound up with a nauseous bark-laden tree guy. Lol. He had some pain from the process so I got him some painkillers, and a nice snack and drink. Slaked and full, well rested.

Remembered we had activateable mutations now, so I hit the nauseous button to see what would happen.

Zach did not throw up what heā€™d just eaten. He insta-threw up everything forever, got no notification of having barfed. Just, instantly PARCHED and STARVING. and Exhausted? Heā€™d slept a lot and did not have that status prior to barf. I went to his inventory to feed him. He died. Apparently of starvation after having passed out and laying frostbitten for some time.

And so I savescummed. Because while hilarious, Iā€™m pretty sure one canā€™t throw up their 8-hour rest and entire soul. XD
