Cataclysm: Metal Gear Solid

I’m glad you like it. You’re welcome, it will be my pleasure to see those in the main build.

You are confusing suggestions with demands. I already told you what you need to do if you want me to go out of my way to satisfy your desires. You first need to help me, simply find some bugs, report them and help me fix them by performing additional tests if necessary, which should be in your interest if you really cared about the game. Strangely, however, you got offended by that offer. You’d rather sit back and watch me to do all the work, spend days testing it by myself, just to make the game the way you want it to be, and if I don’t, then you will scream and be pissed off, and I’ll be the one who is selfish. Heh.

I want a ball, I want a party
Pink macaroons and million balloons
And performing baboons…
Give it to me, rrhhhh-rhhh!

I want the world, I want the whole world
I want to lock it all up in my pocket
It`s my bar of chocolate…
Give it to me, now!

I want a party with rooms full of laughter
Ten thousand tons of ice cream…
And if I dont get the things I am after Im going to scream! Give it to me! Now!

I want the works, I want the whole works
Presents and prizes, sweets and surprises
Of all shapes and sizes…
I don`t care how, I want it now!

Oompa Loompa doompadee doo
I`ve got another puzzle for you
Oompa Loompa doompadah dee
If you are wise you will listen to me

Who do you blame when your kid is a brat
Pampered and spoiled like a Siamese cat
Blaming the kids is a lion of shame
You know exactly who`s to blame?

Oompa Loompa doompadee dah
If you`re not spoiled then you will go far
You will live in happiness too
Like the Oompa Loompa doompadee do!

Haven’t played yet, but seems interesting. I don’t really have a lot of time to play games nowadays :frowning:

What is CTD? Did you copy your old save folder or started a new game?
Not sure if you are asking "What is a CTD?" or "What is causing the CTD?" but since I cannot answer the second question I'll answer the first and hope I'm mistaken. "CTD" is a commonly used acronym meaning "Crash to Desktop."

I’ll try to get ahold of this and put an hour or so into it so I can give some decent feedback. Thankfully, I have a little extra time tonight that I can use to download and potentially play your variant.

I’m looking forward to it. Please mention your version of Windows, whether both binaries worked, which one you decided to play, and if there were any audio or visual problems of any kind.

So the game crashed and you can duplicate it by doing the same thing after you load that save-game? That’s great, if I can duplicate it I can easily track it down and fix it, just please give me that save folder and tell me what to do to replicate the crash.

I also got the game to crash today. It’s the first time since I released the first version of this mod, and I tested it a lot. This makes me believe I screwed something up in the last few builds, most likely I deleted something by accident when I was cleaning up the code for version 45.

On a side note, I got Windows 7 32-bit on another computer and both binaries work just the same, same speed, same everything except the font. That means the problem is either in difference between 64-bit and 32-bit Windows or there is something specific about your particular computer. We need another person with 64-bit Windows to confirm whether SDL binary works on their computer or not.

I played a short time on the non-SDL binary. Seems okay for now. Didn’t really do anything though aside from slaughtering a few wolves.

I’m using Win 8 (ewwww, I know). I’ll try on my Win 7 desktop after I take a nap I think. Quite happy to see that the source is in the download as well so I’ll be picking through the source if I see any bugs. I have my audio turned off at the moment since it’s rather dark out and people are sleeping. Don’t have headphones available that agree with the laptop :stuck_out_tongue: I’ll be able to give some audio feedback (hehe) once it’s daylight out and can safely turn the audio back on without waking people up >.>

Oh, yeah, one small tidbit that isn’t really consequential but worth noting. It was a little jarring to always see “Old Snake” as the name for the templates I made. May want to have the name default to “” like C:DDA for ease of use. I know that it’s not hard to just press backspace to clear it but players can be finicky.

I’ll add more opinions and observations later, after some delicious sleep.

Ok. Is it 32-bit Windows? If you want to try something completely new I suggest finding one of the three secret pathways to the roof of the shelter (3rd floor), or finding the secret room in a church tower. To jump press ‘Z’, to push/kick press ‘z’. Additionally try listening to MP3 to confirm whether ogg sound libraries work too.

Oh wow, I thought I was finished with 64-bit screwing me over after Vista got replaced.

Yeah, no audio on Win 7 64-bit.

So, is CQC going to show up as a bonus martial arts style anytime soon? Perhaps even functional while wielding a knife or other small melee weapon, to keep your coder brain interested.
Actually, I keep expecting to get some undocumented codec message telling me about all of the new features. :stuck_out_tongue:

Was it working before, with previous builds? Does SLD binary work at all? Do you get any error messages, what does it say?

It’s strange you have no sound while for the other guy with Win7 64-bit it doesn’t work at all.

So video/graphics is all right? Do you notice any speed increase? Any glitches, any crashes, any freeze-outs or windows not responding? How’s sleeping and waiting, slow, glitchy, fast, smooth?

Great ideas, but I’m tired of testing. I don’t think I can do much more except to sort the bugs out. But find me three tester persons and I will do anything you want… cows you can milk, horses to ride, exploding barrels to explode, gliders to glide, helicopters to fly, boats to sail, parachutes to jump, women to sleep with, or toilets to crap in, anything at all.

You ask me many things!!!

CTD = Crash to desktop

Sometimes CTD, sometimes the game freezes…
Example:(in Rev 0.44)
Load saved game - 50 turns - CTD or freezes
Again load saved game - 30 turns - CTD or game freezes
Again load saved game - 20 turns - CTD or game freezes
Again load saved game - 10 turns - CTD or game freezes

It also happens when I approach the limit of the map, between 100 and 20 tiles, sometimes CTD, sometimes game freezes, never I see the message “CROSSING REGION BORDER”, I could never leave the initial map game :frowning:

To sart with Rev.048b SDL appears a screen says invalid SDL_ttf…

In Rev.044 (that is what I’m using now) the MP3 music sounds perfectly, something low volume compared to the rest of the sounds, but I listen

Approximately 3 seconds to cover 20 tiles in Version 0.44, keeping the key pressed.

So you don't have to use "look around"? It makes driving easier? It looks better?

Yes, yes and yes

You could add an option in the game to choose between different fonts and sizes? would be very handy with a sample window

In 1680x1050, the game window occupies about one third of the entire screen with default font size.

Here is complete set of .dll files for Windows 64-bit:

SDLmain:
http://www.libsdl.org/release/SDL-1.2.15-win32-x64.zip

SDL_mixer:
http://www.libsdl.org/projects/SDL_mixer/release/SDL_mixer-1.2.12-win32-x64.zip

SDL_ttf:
http://www.libsdl.org/projects/SDL_ttf/release/SDL_ttf-2.0.11-win32-x64.zip

…make sure you overwrite old .dll files in the game folder, or delete them first. Let me know if it works and I’ll include it in the next release.

Won’t start at all with those DLLs. Just gives a generic “can’t start” error. 32-bit exe versus 64-bit DLL? Just guessing.
Game starts and plays just fine with the original DLLs. Both binaries. The speed boost is there, there’s just no sound. Had one freeze/crash after just standing around for a while. That was the SDL binary.

Uh, just re-installed (unpacked) it all again and now the sound’s working with the original DLLs. And I know why. MY DAMN SPEAKERS WERE OFF TO BEGIN WITH. Someone shoot me.
But yeah, it freezes whenever I tab out and back in to the game. SDL only.

Tests show that waiting, running and everything else is MUCH smoother and faster than before. Kudos for that.

Sorry to say I am but one (sometimes stupid) man and I know of no other willing testers. Provide me with questions and I will do my best to give you answers.

Double posting for great justice.

Actually, there is something I’d like you to mull over for a bit. There’s a thread on weapon condition happening. Me, I know how I’d like to see it all get implemented. Hell, I’ve got tons of plans when it comes to guns in general for the game. (Think vehicle assembly screen, only with guns!) But that’s just me. Take a peek at the thread and see if you find it interesting.

Ok, if you still have that saved game please zip it up and upload it somewhere so I can check it out.

Were you able to cross the border in any previous version? Can you cross the border with the main Cataclysm: DDA build?

To sart with Rev.048b SDL appears a screen says invalid SDL_ttf...

That’s good. Download all the .dll files for Windows 64-bit from the three links I posted above. It should work then. Make sure you overwrite old files with those new ones, or delete old files first before copying the new ones to the game folder.

Sorry I wasn’t clear, I meant big tiles, the ones you see on the little 5x5 map next to terrain viewport at the top of the screen. It takes around 7 seconds on my computer to run over 10 of those “big tiles” with viewport size of 12x12.

Yes, yes and yes

You could add an option in the game to choose between different fonts and sizes? would be very handy with a sample window

Ok. I could make option to change font size in the game but is really easy to simply edit “fontdata-mfc” file to achieve the same thing, it takes like five seconds, much easier than to make that option in the game, so I don’t think it’s necessary for now.

So, have you tried editing “fontdata-mfc” file and changing numbers 15 15 to 18 18? Try that font size with 17x17 size for terrain viewport and tell me how that works for you.

Funny, but good news. Ok, thank you. I’ll see about that tab thing. Let me know if you get any other type of crash.

Tests show that waiting, running and everything else is MUCH smoother and faster than before. Kudos for that.

That’s what I want to hear. It’s music to my ears and royal jelly for my soul. Thanks for testing.

Provide me with questions and I will do my best to give you answers.

That’s all. Just let me know if you see anything else that shouldn’t be.

if you still have that saved game please zip it up and upload it somewhere so I can check it out.

I have not, I deleted the entire folder … I’m sorry, I promise to be careful next time and upload the save to my account in Mediafire

Were you able to cross the border in any previous version?

Yes, no problems

Can you cross the border with the main Cataclysm: DDA build?

I had experienced something similar for quite some time in DDA, think it was DDA 0.1 … Since February use only MGS

Download all the .dll files for Windows 64-bit from the three links I posted above. It should work then.

Download, reemplace… And the game runs perfectly!!!

My character has taken 14 seconds to travel 10 “big tiles” in size 12x12, in 16x16 game the time is higher, about 20 seconds (??)

The problem is that I’m very lazy :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

So, have you tried editing "fontdata-mfc" file and changing numbers 15 15 to 18 18?

Yes, play in 16x16, you’re right, it looks okay, I like to use the font “PixelFont-7”

Thank you very much for your support

I’m not familiar with items degrading mechanics, but there is already something. Extending that existing system in some similar ways it already works could be easy, but implementing completely new concepts and new menus is hard, that is tedious and boring.

I’d rather make character needs to piss and crap, which is only to be expected considering how much you need to eat and drink in the game. The things I’ll most readily add to the game are things that have to do with some action rather than statistics. Like push, jump, tame animals, grow crops, milk cows, ride horses, have sex, skydive or fly a plane… things like that.

Do you know what is the latest build where you could still cross the border?

Download, reemplace... And the game runs perfectly!!!!!!

Fantastic!

My character has taken 14 seconds to travel 10 "big tiles" in size 12x12, in 16x16 game the time is higher, about 20 seconds (??)

Ok, thanks for that. Can you tell me what CPU you have and what video card? Mine is old Pentium 4 with 3.2GHz CPU and lousy Intel on-board video, running Windows XP, so I am surprised your computer runs the game slower as I think your computer must be much faster than mine.

The problem is that I'm very lazy ;-P

Hehe, that makes two of us.

Yes, play in 16x16, you're right, it looks okay, I like to use the font "PixelFont-7"

Marvellous! Can you give us a link where to download that font?

Do you know what is the latest build where you could still cross the border?

I think it was around Rev.30 version of MGS, but I can be wrong, can not remember with precision

Can you tell me what CPU you have and what video card?

QuadCore 9550, 4GB Ram, Nvidia 8800GT & WIN 7 64Bits

Can you give us a link where to download that font?

http://www.dafont.com/pixel-font7.font

In this site you will find many more fonts for MGS

Very nice additions in Rev.48, congratulations, One question: Why has reduced the options menu? Military Hour? Drop empty containers?

Ran into a bit of an oddity on the main branch so I’m guessing it’s the same with MGS. Peeked around a corner, saw a turret, got shot.
Now, I imagine that just peeking out would provide more than adequate cover but I guess not. Or at least that you visibility would be minimal. Peeking out and taking a shot on the other hand would be something completely different. Trying that though just won’t let you fire at all, grumble grumble…

Do feel free to add bladder/bowel control if you feel so inclined. Bet a Johnny character template is going to show up, eh?
