[5d24962] Crashes when exploring map, savegame provided

First, some background: I’ve been having crashes in the game when using a save from eb049ca in later versions. It crashes at least from 9a30e07 and forward, not sure about interim builds.
No matter the build I tried and what I did to the savegame (removing .map files to have the game recreate the maps, waiting for any raw pelts and tainted meat I may have left around to rot away) it kept crashing when moving around the map.

I finally gave up and made a new game, with a new character and a new world in 5d24962, which also crashes when moving further into a town. This happens even after all NPCs have been killed via debug menu.

eb049ca did not exhibit any of these issues, to my knowledge. I had a developer friend take a look at it, and his fresh (5d24962 and later) Linux curses builds of the game also crash at the same points the Jenkins Windows builds do, with the same savegames.

I’ve had an identical problem, though I can’t offer proof it’s caused by the same bug, it doesn’t happen immediately, usually after a few days and in my experience it tends to occur with revisiting sections of the map you have explored before but since moved far enough from for them to be removed from the ‘reality bubble’. I have a suspicion that it’s something to do with the game trying to backdate rotting once things are reloaded but that’s merely a guess.

I’m having the same issue with every game I start - with or without NPCs, no hordes, etc. It’s made the game more or less unplayable, as after a while I can no longer re-enter areas I’ve previously been in.

Quick update, I was able to spend some time looking into this finally, and it does look like there’s a bug in the rot handling code.
It’s bypassing the code I set up to keep track of active items, so when one rots, it’s still trying to procss it. If this is the issue you all are seeing, I should have a fix for you soon.

Thank goodness you managed to spot that one! I was wondering why it crashed whenever I stumbled upon a place like a FEMA camp or a mall, good job for pointing that one out.

Is this bug fixed? i’m no expert player but if have lost 4 charc because they couldn’t move because then the game would crash :frowning: so many cbms lost

Yep it’s fixed. Good job, can’t thank the guys who helped fix this enough for saving my best character.

Also narc has been working on some semi related fixes.
There was no savegame corruption, so any saves you were stuck at should be ok to play now.
