Thinking about making either recipes or modifying some books specifically so I can train mechanics higher so I can install more engines to my mobile base of explosive throwing death.
THE SAVE IS WORKING
YOUR GOD RETURNS
i eventually got so fed up with “cataclysm has stopped working” error reporting while playing and since i was having a number of other strange issues formatted and reinstalled the OS on the main machine, hate to admit it, but i’ve been too lazy about having a nice long session to really be sure it solved anything, but it’s definitely cleared most of the nastyness.
to be clear, i was putting off a format and reinstall for a while already anyway.
since returning i’ve decided to basically do a 180 and instead of playing an insanely OP cyborg preset i’m going with an insanely OP mutant preset, i’m liking it, but finding CBMs quickly is a pain, also i now have a real use for morphine, that’s a first.
My latest character is the luckiest unlucky SOB that I’ve ever played. Only 20 days in and so far he’s:
-Had to survive the first week 3 overmaps from the nearest town (first time I’ve ever used a rock forge and charcoal kiln)
-Got lethally dosed by a radiation spewing artifact as soon as he found civilisation (survived with 1 bar of health on each limb and only then because there was Prussian Blue in the house that he crawled into to die)
-Mutated twice (Strong and Dexterous. Not Bad.)
-Had a regional school collapse on top of him during a book raid due to the sheer number of zombies that spawned in the nearby rooms (Had to be a glitch or something. I’m on default spawns and there were hundreds of them)
-Was punched straight through a Garage by a shocker brute who decided to try out his Koolaid Man impression on the wall directly behind the welding goggles I’d just elatedly picked up.
Honestly I’m not sure if he’s the Chosen One or if he’s just rapidly using up the last reserves of luck that he has.
Cataclysm and forum newbite here, my latest run was a firefighter start. Aside from the static NPC I got being an utter jerk (yet great zombie bait) things went pretty swell in looting the town. Spring passes by and I manage to read an entire 3 bookstore/libraries full of stuff to scrap an electric car back together.
Second I enter second town shock zombies say hello, and I ended up crashing my rides water cannon and main battery outside a resturaunt. I’ll either die to zombies, or die tp excessive pasta at this rate.

death by pasta? that sounds like it should belong in the challenge thread, somehow.
Marloss Man Reborn awoke in a field.
First priority: vehicle.
Seeing a road nearby, he followed it. He found a humvee and a car near each other, and quickly repaired the humvee using spare parts from the car.
Second priority: food.
He drove to a nearby gas station and refueled the humvee. Then he cleared out a nearby small town and slept. In the morning he drove like an absolute madman, the humvee getting increasingly battered as time went on. He’s looking for either a lab (for the map reveal from the terminal) or a fungal site. He only has the mycus fruits in his pockets, then he starves.
Anyway, it’s getting close to bedtime, since I have a job that requires me to wake up at 4:45 in the morning. More tomorrow.

Why a lab? I didn’t think they spawned any mycus food. Don’t tell me you’re considering purifier.
Edit: Wow. I need to get my eyes checked. You clearly stated that it was for the map function. Also I don’t even think purifier works on post thresh mucus.
I thought MMR was one of those “make your own fungal area and food” types.

I think it depends on which of the “seasonal” mutations that he currently has. There’s Sporogenesis and Bloom (I think it’s Bloom). Only one of them turns trees into mycus fruit.
I have the worst of the four right now, Spore. It doesn’t turn trees into marloss trees and I can’t even control it.

Do you have to eat each thing in order to post threshold as mucus or can you eat a theoretical unlimited amount of marloss berries without much issue.
Also started playing with pks rebalancing mod again and I forgot how much of an issue radiation becomes. Good thing I also have duros doings mod which adds boiled water is not radioactive. At the moment I am mainly assuming most of my radiation is from fighting the zombies on the outskirts of a city.
Yes.
Long answer, you need all three marloss mutations to become a Mycus. However, that really isn’t forced. You just get an addiction to the kinds of marloss you aren’t eating. It’s annoying but has no other effect.
EDIT: MMR’s humvee finally died when it crashed into a horde of zombies at a motel. He killed them all, commandeered a car, and kept going. He swapped it out for an electric car when he found his car would only go 50 mph. That electric car got him to a lab! No fungus in sight, but the maps revealed two more labs.
Just outside the first lab, the electric car, worn down by bushes, exploded into a cloud of scrap after hitting one too many. (at 100 mph) The nearby road provided a semi, which got him to the second lab. There was a fungal bloom just outside it, but it was too far from any forests to make marloss trees. The second lab’s maps revealed nothing. Two mycus fruits left. Let’s hope the third lab reveals something good…
good luck MMR, that would be one hell of an ironic way for your unstoppable rampages to end by starving.
Day 63 now. Shiki has somehow managed to avoid any more near death experiences. I’ve completed my basic Deathmobile setup, and started stockpiling food. Thankfully I spawned near a swamp so I’ve been able to amass nearly 200 portions of meat Jerky by genociding the insects that live there. For the first time in my history of playing cataclysm I find myself relying on ranged weapons, (basically locked myself into them by accident, the cities are filling up with hulks\zombie masters and my melee skills are too low by now for me to cross train). The artifact that irradiated me earlier turned out to be a stat booster (+4 INT) and it will be instrumental in my late game artifact farming activities (character was 14 INT and 8 everything else so I just need an INT CBM to completely negate Amigara Paralysis)
Hopefully I find the LVL 5 Computers book soon. I won’t be able to sustain the ammo requirements of pushing into the city anymore unless I can get a manhack swarm going. Wish me luck. I’m hoping that this will be my first perma-character.
manhacks are great against all non hollow non shocker bitties.
with the high speed and size bonus to dodge 3-4 of them can level a horde.
or could, until to innate dodge bonus was nerfed. haven’t tried since, but i have seen zeds scoring more hits on them when the do show up im rando loot

Yeah, aside from having them occasionally run off after random animals and get lost, ive had good luck with them.
Faults only work once each now, instead of being reusable. My fault on that one, sorry - I posted about it, and the devs fixed it very shortly afterwards.
Of course, that’s only in the experimental - in 0.C, it still works fine.

Eh. It will still let me avoid some serious hassle if I decide to take on a fault.
MMR drove his semi to the third lab, backtracking a little bit. Accessing this lab required getting out and hiking through a bit of forest and swamp. The third lab’s maps reveal a fungal blossom just inside a forest! Dead tired? Sleep is for the weak! MMR burns rubber, completely disregarding the condition of his vehicle. It’s getting a bit beat up from hitting shrubs and animals. Finally he reaches the fungal blossom and the wonderful marloss trees. There’s enough food here to last him a long, long time.
However, the game keeps freezing on me, and all the log says is that it failed to place a zombie because there already is one. Anyone else getting this bug?
