What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?

Somehow we perceive true randomness as less random.[/quote]

I’m familiar, actually, which is why I originally said clusters do happen, even in total randomness. What I was pointing out is that the clustering is DEPENDABLE in this game - finding clusters of something rare that you haven’t seen before is COMMON, especially in the same map tile (like found corpses).

I suspect there is something like “the date is one of the inputs to the random function” going on - something that would cause an unintended bit of less-than-randomness. You do know that computers don’t actually DO true random, right?

I found it. The Colt Single Action Army, the greatest handgun ever made. Six shots, more than enough to kill anything that moves. My life is complete.

My Grandpa had a Singe action army that ‘won the west’. It was a heirloom thing, and had 13 notches underneath the ivory grip, signifying how many lives it took.

Sadly my Grandma pawned it off after his death, not passing it down to my Dad as it was intended. She’s was not welcome after his death two years ago, due to my Granddad’s neglect by her hands when his health started to fail.

Such is life.

My Elementary school student playthrough has gone extremely well. Currently raiding the basement of a military (Bandit) outpost for zombified soldiers and their sweet loot.

The entire background of ‘Nine’ is in a short story, which will be here:

Here’s my equipment:

Finished raiding the basement of the outpost. Guns, guns, guns and more guns.
They’re in pretty poor condition though, so I’ll see if I can trade them off at a refugee center and keep the ones that I either don’t have or the one in the best condition. Also butchered zombie bio-operators for their bionics, my power storage is around 4500+.

It’s kind of a pain repairing a light tank. I’m wondering if I should just switch to a Humvee. Better visibility and easier access and repairing, however it can only carry one mounted gun and it would have a lot less storage space.

Well, the first thing I do is mount new frames on a humvee.

then weld a short range turret on the back

I am crafting a crap ton of explosives and throwables, and trying to get some more ammo for my mounted M2 Browning, which I will deploy against the horde in the city. Wish me luck!

Started a new game, now that cars arent braindead hard.

Together with my diff 0 chimes, the battery change makes them tenable, at least to get a basic car up and running and with basic lighting.

I died a bunch, spawned into a few neat places, and et al, but this current run I found several sable coats inside a clothing store. My naked man is now wearing a fit fur coat, some fur underbitties, some fur foot and arm wraps, and a fur hat. He is quite happies with this turn of events, but sad he had to leave the extra fur behind.

Id wear a fur loincloth irl. Sounds quite comfortable if not too sweaty, tbh.

found a car behind the vet clinic, now Im mobile and I got a rambo knife from a pawn shop to boot Things are up and up for furrybritches here

M2 Browning is by far my most favorite mounted gun. Good luck!

Furrybritches car did not have a working alternator, and thus the battery quickly died, right outside a grocery store.

FB went and stole a cart. Looting around, he found a fire axe and a glock with 2 whole mags! Part-y. And party he did, by shooting a sewer rat. Teach you to infect my leg.

FB walked south and west, coming across a few scientists and a blob pit. Avoiding that hellhole FB found a lab and used a labkey to get into the ice lab.

FB has since then looted out the first floor, gaining more from the blankets he chopped up than the lab loot. though the fresh water and UTH was good.

Furrybritcheshas survived to 5pm on day 5.

He just finished clearing a lab of most of its loot. or at least the loot that didnt need to be crowbared. most of the enemies too, though shutting the door is too effective to not do…

Furrybritches found a bio-ops trying to smash some glass to get at a shoggoth. It saw him, way down there, and it saw his 2 down blankets and came after him. He expended 40 9mm from his glock to put it down. it had some prm underlay and boots on, and since furrybritches has 40 or so soap hes going to find some water and clean them off.

Furrybritches has installed 2 failed bionics, and now makes noise and itches. Ive got a few more, but Im afraid now. no first aid kits yet either.
Furrybritches has 3 more 9mm bullets left, then its on to the m1 garand for him.

furrybritches found a car on the road. it was lacking an alternator. So he left his cart and walked half a day south until he found one. He walked back and now has a running car, in battered condition. Like a real survivor.

Furrybritches will find a needle and inject some serums into himself, but hes already half a crapborg.

His fireaxe and his combat knife have served him well, though he hasnt found something that resists bashing that is weak to stabby-stab yet.

I think that maybe another critter or two that is nonmurderyou will do the trick. its getting better. I dont want or need a world where everyrthing is a moose, bear, or wolf.

We have a lot of gulls here in CT. Flew in from the ocean and never left. They like to hang out in parking lots and eat the french fries or bread people throw to them. Because people apparently like it when stray animals beg them for food and poop on their cars.

Ronson had just abandoned his starting firehouse for new digs at a mansion in the forest by the lakeside. Abundant water, forest for scrounging food, plenty of wood for building stuff. This is the life.

After making a few tentative forays into the nearby city, he decides to take his stretch APC and drive straight through town to the nearest evac center (which is still way the heck away) with the vague plan of finding a refugee center and hooking up with those guys. With his faithful NPC Danielle in tow, he drives through town.

So the zombie hordes are reasonably dense, and there’s some wild driving but no accidents. A couple of zombie masters get clipped and maybe a necromancer or two, but Ronson and Danielle bull through and find the evac center and eventually the refugee center - which is way the heck to the southeast of the city, with the evac center on the northeast and the mansion on the west. Bummer.

Figuring that the zombies are going to be even more in the streets on the way back, and the APC’s armor is already pretty dented (and not repairable yet, grrr Mechanics 6), Ronson decides to take it slow and eases into town. And spots two brutes and a hulk. Well, that’s no good.

But hey, he’s got Marksmanship 3 or so and a Rifle 0 and a nicely suppressed M1A. Sneaks after a brute, trying to get it in range, but the brute keeps moving back and a grabber is approaching. Ronson figures the gun is silenced with a professional silencer, so he takes the shot at the grabber. Grabber dies, but the silenced .308 rounds don’t exist, and every zombie including the two brutes start coming forward. Ronson and Danielle are in survivor dusters over light survivor armor and have fire axes, so the first brute goes down pretty quick. Second brute bounces Ronson around the terrain about for some ouches, and a shocker may have slipped in there. But everything is dead, right? Situation resolved. Danielle is busily mutilating corpses.

Ronson realizes that smashing the corpses is attracting more zombies, but it’s too late and the hulk and a pair of shocker brutes show up to play. Ronson gets bounced around the terrain a lot more but Danielle mostly manages to solo the hulk and incapacitating pain isn’t any reason to not kill a pair of shocker brutes, right? Somehow, Ronson and Danielle survive, pulp and butcher the zombies, and stumble back to the APC.

Ronson takes a wide loop around town and makes it back to the mansion, where he decides he’ll stay for the next week or so while his limbs heal back to normal. He’s also going to start packing the Heavy Power Armor and Lifting Frame that he found in that spider basement for emergency situations. Like multiple sets of brutes and hulks.

The next plan is to make some more tentative incursions into the city, trim down that massive horde in a slightly less over the top manner.

My misshapen failed bionic experiment finally got a follower. Admittedly by threatening to kill him, but hey, I did kill a jabberwock for him first.

My current survivor has heavy power armor, heavy power armor helmet, and hauling frame. Found them in that order, in wildly different places, over the course of about a year, and no other power armor parts along the way (just found 2 regular suits, but that was after). Pretty crazy.

I haven’t put it all on yet… I’ve got pretty good stuff, and there’s no good way to switch weapons while in power armor (seriously, some kind of sheath/holster/gun rig would be required by the military, OK?!?), but I may try it out. Being immune to, well, EVERYTHING* could be fun for a while.

*OK, everything except hulk/brute big hits and teleportation sickness. Close enough, eh? Oh, anybody know how heavy power armor does with fire?

Actually, hulks and brutes still won’t scratch you.

The inability to use stuff strapped to the body in power armor is really annoying, because like you said, no weapon slings or holsters/sheathes/scabbards.

I’m currently getting around that by putting my NPC follower in the power armor, but she won’t wear the helmet so it’s a bit stopgap.

I just discovered the main drawback of having a mobile base. The ‘V’ key don’t work on cargo holds. Now I can’t find my weed.

Use advanced inventory “/”, press a for adjacent tiles, then s and c to sort by categories. It’ll give you a good overview of everything within 1 tile of you. Or you can just hit f to filter for weed

Oh that’s good to know. It isn’t quite the radius of the V-key but it’s better than nothing

I feel like an idiot now. I’ve always avoided mortuaries because I didn’t think they’d have anything of remote value. Just found a goddamn Joint Torsion Ratchet in the back room of one.

I just nuked a Triffid grove after a lucky exploration of a military bunker yielded some fancy bombs. My ‘well’ planned escape is foiled when I realize that some Triffid Queens blocked both roads. There goes all my fancy incendiary grenades.
