What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?

Getting to the mid-end game with my current character. Weird how this game works a lot of the time. I went from “holy hell how am I going to treat this infection and get some clean water” to “Man I really want to make pizza, but these wild herbs are taking forever to grow. What color should I paint my base?”

Also I did not expect my security guard character to grow into an armored knight who likes to pull drive bys with a her tec-9 on unsuspecting wildlife.

remember railcars and shotguns in middle america.

Amuricans did it first

I was walking around town, looting houses, minding my business… then in one of them, in the bathroom, i find this:

Who put graffiti of Kevin Granade on the wall? Since when is this a thing? D:

Since Chezzo updated the chesthole tileset a few weeks back.

Someday I will learn to leave the rat caves alone. Nausea and light sensitive again I have…

Now that I have an A7 laser rifle, I am now looking for a rifle scope to become the ultimate sniper. Hulks and jabberwocks have become less of a concern now that I can slay them before they can take more than a few steps towards me.

But I cannot yet slay them from 30 tiles away, which is a problem I will solve, sooner or later.

Is the A7 laser rifle really that good? The most i’ve gotten into energy based weapons is the ferromagnetic railgun and the fusion blaster rifle.

Also I finished carving a path with my wood axe through a forest, I did it so my souped up quadbike could reach my wattle and daub house unhindered and I can deposit my loot from nearby cities.

I haven’t gone this far, base-building wise ever. Though I do see the appeal of making a house, after it’s finished and such but damn is the process long.

The A7 is basically endgame tier in how good it is. Once you get a good number of mods to take your dispersion into the negatives, a full burst actually HOMES in on enemies. So you can full-auto fire into a horde, and all of the missed shots magically aimbot themselves into other zombies. I’ve even had them aimbot themselves into enemies behind me in order of who is closest.

It’s especially great for endgame cyborgs with the UPS CBM. Since you can just use your bionic power to fuel it at a rate of 4 BP per shot, or 20 BP for burst.

marloss berries + metabolic interchange + ups cbm + a7 laser rifle = infinite ammo

Discovered my first big ass military outpost and am busy slowly luring its occupants out and letting the giant ants snack on them. :>

Laser Weapons are a scalpel, and they should be. I don’t actually see a feasible scenario where you can ‘miss’ with a laser other than egregious error on the part of its user. I’d actually be in favor of laser weaponry ignoring the hard to shoot flag if they don’t already. Either way, if it’s fairly easy to burst obliterate skeletons and the like with an A7 as is.

Though I prefer the fusion rifle myself. Toasty.

Speaking of fusion rifles, I just found a fusion blaster CBM in a shocker brute, and proceeded to do the sensible thing and turned it into a rifle. Now, the last time I fired a fusion rifle was in like, 0.B or something. The effect of the rifle in the latest iterations of the game is… much more explosive than I remember it being.

That said, I have now all four firearms that I was looking for; the RM228 short shotgun, the V29 laser pistol, the A7 laser rifle and the fusion blaster rifle. I have even constructed holsters for the RM228, V29 and A7 out of genuine hulk leather. The fusion blaster is getting one made from jabberwock leather, which is still tanning.

My current goal right now is crafting a mountain-load of caseless ammos for the RM228. I would have gone for a less rare shotgun, but with gunpowder being uncraftable, caseless ammo will have to do.

Are laser rifles and related weaponry essential in late game? I feel like the conventional projectile weapons (such as the scout sniper I am using right now) are cooler and do the job just fine.

Not really, but NEVER having to worry about ammo again is so so so so so SO nice.

I just tried tackling that big military outpost thing in the forest. Contrary to what I expected, it wasn’t just like the smaller ones scaled up nine times bigger. I had apparently been taken over by bandits. I was fortunate to have picked nighttime for the visit. The those bandits nearly killed me. Thy had shotguns. Or at least those guys at the front gate does. But since it was night and I can tun invisible, I sniped them the moment they entered my sight. The A7 was godsend then.

I had also somehow picked up an NPC companion. He’s not very good at combat and like all NPCs, like to curse me out at the drop of a hat. I managed to clear up the base from ground level and above, but the bangings and riotous noise from below annoyed me so much I went down to clear out the basement. It… didn’t went as well as I hoped. For one, the corridor we emerged into was jam-packed with soldier zombies, along with one secubot and a corrosive zombie. I took out that one first before it starts spitting acid at me or the NPC.

Clearing out the corridor was a chore, but we made it through relatively intact. Mostly due to my effort.

Then things went fubar when an armored zombie came through the door. I hadn’t ever fought one of those before, and thinking that it can’t possibly be worse than a hulk, I opened fire.

I might as well fired a slingshot at it for all the good it does. It didn’t even take a single scratch from a rifle that took down several hulks and one jabberwock. I holstered the rifle and draw out the rapier.

It didn’t work either. The ensuing battle ended up with the NPC breaking both arms and me losing almost 20 percent of my hp. Nothing I did affects the zed even though I knocked it about and slamming it against the walls dozens of times. It wasn’t until I let loose a chain lightning in close quarters out of desperation that I notice it took significant damage. I then turned on my electroshock unit and starts whaling on it with my rapier. It took a long time before it went down.

I don’t know if anyone lives in Frederick, but it is raining like HELL here and it perfectly fits my cataclysm theme.

Personally I look forward to the bionic energy storage nerf. It might make late game weapon choices more varied and personal without gimping yourself voluntarily.

If it’s nerfed hard enough to limit UPS ammo for the A7, it will make the other expensive CBMs completely unusable, essentially EVER. The point isn’t that I have 1,000,000,000 bionic energy, it’s that I have 500-1000 bionic energy and the ability to replenish it fast enough to not worry about the ammo (Joint Torsion Ratchet + Metabolic Interchange + stack of cooked meat = essentially infinite ammo).

A7 will be nerfed in a different way.
At the moment the UPS bionic gives a ton of extra power for some weird reason. I assume it was skipped when the bionic power change was made (looooong ago), when bionic power was worth something like 5x as much as regular power.
Once UPS bionic is nerfed into something sane, A7 will no longer be a free instant win, but just a very good weapon.

Just had the most absurdly lucky start in my relatively short (been playing for about 4 months now) cata lifetime. Rolled up a Helicopter crash start (military recruit profession). The crash was right next to a field campsite that had nearly a weeks worth of canned food and a working motorcycle, a 4 house “town” with a fully stocked sporting goods store and defended by a measly 3 regular zombies, as well as a (nonfunctioning but fixable) Luxury RV and a set of airdrop crates containing military gear, a few MRE’s and a metric ton of guns (a couple of them Rivtech, no ammo though). I’m 300% sure that this luck will be balanced out in the morning by a mi-go waiting outside my door, but damn.
