What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?

Day 53, spring.

My alter ego killed another necro during a night raid and decided to go west to explore the bit of town between the north-center part and the southern, fairly safe one. A loud explosion and a sign warned me that there’s a minefield around, so I went slightly more southerly, past a bank and into a sporting store.

I got back to the shelter only to realize I’d run out of my water bottles pile. Time to go fill these bottles up again.

Or the biggest, bashingest weapon possible to make sure you pulp as many of your targets as possible, so the cleanup doesn’t distract from your drunken hijinks.

On day 46 now. So, after my daring raid of the military outpost, there were a surprising number of intact military IDs. I moved on to raid two bunkers. The first, by far, is my favorite. Bionics! Two dedicated rooms to them. Installed Uncanny Dodge, Integrated Dosimeter, Artificial Night Generator, Weather Reader (<3), Radiation Scrubber (<3!), Probability Travel (<3!!), and Terranian Sonar. Also a copious amount of ordnance and munitions. I’m now carrying around rockets, just waiting to find their respective launchers. The second one had more ordnance. I’m very, very happy with that haul.

Now sitting in a hotel parking lot hauling water to the ATCOH in a steel jerrycan. Took the opportunity to install three more clean water tanks. As it turns out, that’s a lot of water. I wish I had thought to keep track, but it’s at least a couple hundred liters. Purifying the basement water in job lots thanks to the FOODCO kitchen buddy. And I’m still only at 81% capacity as of this writing. So, thoughts: Should I add even more clean water tanks? I mean, ya never know…

You could add a dirty water tank plus a funnel. It might seem pointless when you can easily load up from a river or pool, but any little thing that leaves you less dependent on making a pit stop can prove useful in the future.

Definitely something worth considering. How would I go about transferring between the respective tanks, though? Also, I added four tanks, not three. There was another tucked in the back that I forgot about after going to bed, heh.

Hmm? Well, the dirty water tanks will fill up in the rain, then if you have a kitchen unit (or just the option of lighting a fire outside a door), you can opt to craft the clean water and it’ll treat the nearby vehicle’s clean water tanks as valid for the purpose of having a container to fill in the recipe.

Right. Do have a kitchen unit, of course. I meant transferring from dirty to clean. Just the ol’ steel jerrycan method minus the walking?

So there are dirty tanks now? For things like the uncaring drinker or fire cannons?

Hmm? Transferring dirty to clean? You boil it or use a vehicle water purifier. >_>

I mean I can store unclean water in tanks on a car now? Heh, I might honestly do that just to add weight to a car so as to plow through zom crowds better.

Yep. If I recall, it used to only be clean water, but then it started getting haphazardly split off into clean and dirty versions, with Vehicle Additions Pack adding to it being fleshed out. Then one of my vehicle-centric PRs got nudged into doing some things with Blaze’s mod, mainly mainlining a few of the extra types of water tank that were VAP-only, so it got more or less fleshed out so all types of tank can be used to build either type of water tank.

Yes, of course. Facepalmed after I posted the question. Anyway, just topped off all of my clean water tanks and installed a dirty water tank, funnel, and faucet. All set except for the initial top-off, which I’m attending to now.

Railmonkey, only saw them 'cause I haven’t checked this in like a whole 24 hours, but your images are all broken. Seems like they’re private on dropbox so linking from there doesn’t let anyone else see them.

Night 01 is closing in. I began the day inside a boarded up house while my bunkie wielded a flamer outside and set the house on fire. Ran to the SUV that was on fumes and managed to fill it up with 10% capacity.

Its becoming more and more damaged as the day goes on, with a smashed winshield, a faulty headlight, a busted door, and now the gas tank is dangerously yellow. I did manage to find fungicide and fungus, so I parked in a field filled with spores and fungaloids and sewed and fabricated my way to decent equipment. Lvl 2 tailoring and lvl 1 fabrication, specifically. Ive killed enough to be at lvl 1 dodge too; not insignificant for a slow_learner.

I did not find under the hood yet. But I did just find a Go Bag. My happies are only diminshed by the encroaching night and the fact that I used up my thread already. Getting more is extra annoying due to my alcoholism. If I can survive to see the sun again my survival rate will be measured in days instead of hours. Its in the first 36 hours that most of my boys go down, so making it thus far is great, and due almost wholley to the car. Spring is a cruel mistress and being a drunkard with crappy warmth/emcumbrance items is just as fatal as the surrounded start/static spawns.

Oh. Huh. Lemme see about fixing them. Sorry 'bout that.

In other news, just raided a hospital and stocked up on medical supplies. No purifiers or mutagens, sadly, but I can just craft those. Also analyzed a vacutainer of zombie blood and downloaded infection data. Should prove useful much later on. Oh, also found and installed a Metabolic Interchange. Gonna see about heading to the refugee center now. It’s been over a month, so I’m hoping they haven’t been overrun. Will be my first time finding one with NPCs turned on.

EDIT: Okay, uploaded to Photobucket. That should do it.

Day 03.

I found a bunker and a mansion sharing a road, side-by-side. More likely the backside of the mansion lined up with the front of the bunker. But whatever. Zombies came out of the woods, and I beat a retreat to an abandoned Lowels Home Store. I looted entirely too many nails and entriely too few books, but I did get an electric jackhammer for my troubles.

I found out that my other headlight died, leaving me with my personal flashlight for navigation. Not entirely stealthy . . .
But I did fortify my clothing insofar as a wooden needle allows. I also got much needed prepackaged water and assorted fruit drinks of the adult and nonadult kind. I Left to discover all the zoms hanging out by the artifact and the blank bodies up the road, so thats why I didnt see them.

Sneaking up to town, I run through the streets 4 buildings in to a garage I spotted. It was half destroyed and SUPRISE SUNUP happened. With the well placed use of fire in a house I got out. Thankfully I had a molativ to seal my exit.

Back at my car, A sudden horde moved in from the east. You know. I wouldnt hate the idea of wanderers if they actually came in a manner that wasnt reminicent of Nightmare! level Doom spawns. They follow me around, and I hate it; I absolutely despise it in this experimental. I thought it was managable in the stable version, oddly enough.

Anyway. I have no skill in mechanics, so Im kind of boned until I find the book. While doing the usual 'avoid the trickle of monsters as you scout/look for a place to rest that this experimental requires I skid into a bish, and a brute tried to paste me on the hull of the vehicle. I 1v3d him and his 2 fat friends and the car is in sorry shape. One of th SUVs gas tanks busted all over a zombie, which while funny pissed me off.

pedit: Oh yea. I wanted to post because look what team finally showed up

Yea, lets not with my current kitout and say we did.

This above doesnt seem normal, but Im sure theres an explaination why the slimes are so thick they lag my game in between turns.
I cant help but feel that between whatever buffs to spawn densitity or w.e. and my own tinkering, something got borked.

Something 50+ tiles away kept me from sleeping last night, and when I opened the door to leave there was like 20 monsters in the bathroom waiting for me. Not attacking the door, although I was at the other side of the house. I imagine my scent didnt go through the door???

Anywho, car busted, Im not walking 20+ overmap tiles through hordes to town to try to get a new one. Gonna try the latest experimental instead :expressionless:

As an aside Im wondering if the noise from other z-levels shouldnt be muffled a lot more somehow. Not quite like there open-air roofs yet anyway.

In the process of relocating my base from the lab I started in (and made my bitch) to an ice lab on the other side of the city. I can now keep perishables forever. On the downside this is going to take a couple of days…

It’s day 52. Drove on over to the refugee center. NPCs are all alive and well. Parked the ATCOH out front and alternated between sleeping and reading Self-Esteem for Dummies for two days. About to start in on Principles of Effective Communication and, for good measure, How To Succeed in Business. I still haven’t found Mechanical Mastery, which saddens me to no end. Hopefully I can pick it up off of an NPC or something.

Day 10 Spring, second year. Soil’s still too cold for planting, so currently busy with making concrete. Sand I found from raiding parks for most part, and home improvement stores. Rocks and limestones I mine down the labs. Making lots of quicklime and cement isn’t too bad, lots of hours, but easy enough. The real time consuming thing is making canvas sacks, as I need four fully loaded tailor’s kits to make a batch of 20, which causes a lot of reloading.

No shortage of sinews, though, at the very least. Instead of rigging a concrete mixer with a UPS mod, I went with atomic battery instead, so I don’t have to waste time waiting around to recharge the mixer thanks to the large energy capacity of the atomic battery.

Day 54. Finally, finally found a Joint Torsion Ratchet CBM. Got it off of a zombie technician in the refugee center’s back loading bay. Between that, and my Battery System and Solar Panel CBMs, I’m pretty well set. Also found an Ethanol Burner CBM off of a quest shocker zombie, but doing a straight edge run, so that’s out. All I need to round things out is an Internal Furnace CBM. Crossing my fingers on that one.
