Day 9 in lab scenario
Thanks to a lucky start the 3rd zed I killed had a control laptop on its corpse. This made the lab so much easier. Go around, turn off the turrets and bots. Find some skill books, get CBM installation skills up to snuff. Work my way through the lab, feasting on the dead bodies. Eventually get to the big prize…which included a probability travel CBM and a whole slew of other CBMs. Welp. I can now get out. Tunnel into a room on the top floor, deactivate the door turret…claim the lab as my own.
Find another lab. Control laptop FTW yet again. Quantum tunnel inside, loot, drop off at home lab. Find a bunker. Control laptop FTW. 3 exploding turrets later, step inside and deactivate the milspec turrets and steal their tasty ammo. Loot the bunker. Lots of turrets, some decent CBMs, some anti-tank weapons…and not one damned firearm.
There’s a LMOE shelter south of my base. Gonna hit that up next. I’m already halfway to being Ultron. Also the town to the north looks suspiciously like it’s got a vault under it…
So I killed this Triffid heart thing, I thought it would end the triffid population outside but that doesn’t seem to be the case? I keep finding those annoying triffid queens messing up outside. I’m mycus I cannot allow this to continue.
Now I found a Mall. Has this character lived long enough? I can’t walk away from the loot just because a hundred or so evolved zombies. The ones at the entrance were enough to actually damage my RM13 combat armor, it wasn’t active but that never happened before.
It took awhile to butcher all of these. Anyway I can’t enter the mall without first refilling my CBM energy. I bet lots of cloaking will be needed, gotta love sucker punching those hulk noobs.
Yep. I like to update every couple days myself, especially if there’s something I’m excited about in the latest changelog.
Pretty simple process: extract the new cata build into its own folder.
After you’ve got the new cata unpacked, you just copy-paste the “save” folder from your old cata folder in to the new one.
Note: Do not merge and overwrite the new cata folder into the old cata folder. New one goes in its own folder, then copy over your saves.
Trust me on that one- it’s way more efficient than trying to figure out which deprecated file from the old build you need to delete so the new version can boot. X3
Usually you can also copy over your “config” folder and “template” folder as well, but if you’re going from the last stable to the newest experimental probably won’t be able to carry those over. Too many tweaks made between then and now. Update-to-update is pretty friendly to those, but if you run into trouble launching a new build, troubleshoot #1 is try it without transferring your configs and templates.

I’ve never had a problem just overwriting everything even after several months of not playing and thus not-updating.
I have scoured the first floor of the lab I retreated into after my car crashed. Due to my slow learner trait I only gained 1 level of melee skill, but I did get a filter mask and kick my alcoholism with the help of unloaded toastems. The ice lab had 4 locked rooms in it, 1 lab and 3 ammo caches. Yes, I now have several caseless and otherwise uncommon rounds, but no guns for them. The ones I do have: A beretta with a spare magazine, a flaregun with 4 flares, a chainggun with sparse ammunition, and the sling with 19 pebbles.
My melee options are equally abhorent. I have a crowbar that is damaged, but I do have a torch and soldering iron and pipes, so I might just fashion a steel spear.
Either way, I have the means to fight them now, as I can set fires under them bottoms and cocaine to runaway with and a few smoke bombs. No glass bottles though. I put all my booze into a canteens so I could run faster. Oh well, my goal is to escape the horde above, not kill them all.
We’ll see how this goes, and Im fairly optimistic about this character’s chances. I even forgot to take the mutagen I found. Insect ones.
In my own alter ego game, it’s day 39, spring. Still haven’t found that welder. Tried learning how to make the makeshift one, but keep failing. I even picked up the second copy of Under the Hood in case the first one was jinxed lol
Keep battering Zs with my bare hands since I have fairly good armor and Boxing (Krav Maga once my unarmed gets high enough)
I found a filter mask but it’s barely hanging on, I’ll need lots of time and rags to fix it.
@ pisskop: Pebbles are really easy to make. Just go out pick up some rocks and that’s it.
Ooh. Found what seems to be a helicopter crash site just north of the curious structure. The loot? An M14 (no ammo), drop leg pouches, Integrated Toolset CBM (not enough skills to risk it, no power supply), an M72, and some other junk.
166 zoms currently wait for me at the site of my car. This electric car isnt going to go very far either . . . I could go get the acetylne torch in the lab and hope to repair a car at night, but . . .
[quote=“Caconym, post:9728, topic:47”]So I may have encountered a rat-king pretty early (it’s day 3 spring, year 1), in a cave just on the edge of town

What is that black T with the green shading? And pisskop, what is that purple “$” and yellow “@” on the minimap?
On a side note, 14 days into a new game on the mobile version and I’ve already found heavy survivor gloves that fit from a dead survivor zombie.

That T is a strange grove from the Arcana mod.
Speaking of which, I see someone decided to try the Scribe class. Would hope the test scenario hasn’t been too derpy so far?

It…it had an interesting start, the starter NPC blew up almost immediately (there was an actual explosion and not NPC head asplode), and I had to run away from a bunch of mi-go’s then ran into that cave with the ratking almost first thing.
In other news the underground is just perfect, I got a pickaxe off my dead buddy at the start and it has been great for getting around this great underground system I got.
I got a basment that connects into a subway which connects with a sewer which connects with a lab and close a basement that can put me in a house next to a gun store. The subway exit is next to a library.
You know that you can work directly out of a book for a recipie you don’t know, right? You don’t have to learn the recipie to make the thing, you just have to have the book nearby.
