So , my broken cyborg finally removed the last malfunctioning bionic in mid winter. I probably could have done so earlier but I was being stingy with the kits. Also, good genetics and genetically unstable as starter traits makes for a rather wild ride, I just wish it would stop rolling deterioration. Now to find some more hops so I can fill a keg with home brew. And as some one who practices the hoby in real life the hop requirements in this game’s recipe are insane. A half kilo for a 20L batch of beer? Pucker up wuss that is one bitter brew.
That trait combo is always guaranteed Fun.
I really should try making a brewing-focused character sometime. Or maybe revive that DF-themed profession mod and use the dwarven brewer. Dwarven wine for everyone. o3o
After a few more Edmund-alike SWATguys, i decided to try my hand at something else. Playing as a war reenactor with decent skills and stats on a missed start. Manage to grab a bayonet from a gun basement before fleeing the zombies there, and escaped the city in a near-mint electric SUV i found. Cleared out a nearby mansion and found a bunch more paper cartridges for my musket. There is a prison nearby, but after bashing down a door and seeing the bars and secbots i decided to come back later. On a whim i tried recruiting the three NPCs nearby, and all 3 accepted. I guess i have never had any levels in speech before. The result of this is three mixed bag survivors following a Union soldier with a balclava under his tricorn hat tearing ass through the apocalypse in a high-tech SUV.
Is there any good loot to be had in prison? Would it make a good base if i can clear out the bots?
Some decent stocks of food, a few books, should be cop gear as well. Only really worth exploring if you’re doing the relic quest chain.
Muskets are so much fun. If this guy dies I am going to play another with the schizophrenic trait and roleplay that he has severe delusion of grandeur and thinks it is really the civil war. Arm up all my NPC friends with bayonet muskets and charge into the breach for the union!
So if we had redneck zombies… :V
Let me just start by saying that I started playing Cataclysm again after a year or so and my god lol. How things have changed. I’m very impressed with the amount of progress that’s been made.
I started up a new world sometime today (maybe yesterday?) and things were going surprisingly well. I tried two times before but I died straight away so this was definitely an improvement. I was on my way to the other side of the city when I came across this.
Something tells me this isn’t a normal occurrence.

Actually, I’ve come across a few cat packs myself. Well, they came across me. Or more accurately, my car’s bonnet.
Unrelated, I found one of those strange towns with the multiple identical buildings, large-ish sewers and a large fallout-style vault with multiple levels, filled with neutral soldier NPCs and more supplies than I could ever possibly use. Is there more to it than that?
On that place you’re talking about.
There’s a few missions you can get from one of the NPCs there, and you need to finish the old guard missions first before you can get it. Aside from that and supplies, there’s nothing particular about that area of note.
Anyway, I’m getting so much human meat to the point that I’m having a harder time finding normal meat in comparison. I need those chunks of fat for mannwursts, dammit.
Moved my current game to the latest experimental. Made sure to make a backup file first after that big problem I had last time I did it, resulting in making sure my previous survivor couldn’t go near static NPCs because it would crash the game.
All seems fine, so far. On the other hand, hordes seem to have respawned, and thankfully I’m far from my ice lab base when it happened. For now, I’ll just try to spawn the horde in a far and isolated area so I won’t have to go through the headache of getting the area around my base clogged with Zs. Last time that happened it was a headache sorting out all the items from the dead bodies.
Finally got a character going decently. I managed to find a wakazashi early in the game and exercising caution and judicious restraint I’ve survived a couple weeks. I got around to armoring up, and have a hoard of books to level up with and did so. My only close call so far has been a shocker who snuck up behind me in an electronics store while I was looting batteries, I only had the sword so I had to improvise with a Kevlar vest that was in my inventory and then somehow made it back to my base. Caught a cold the next morning, of course, but that was fine as I have a sizable cache of food and water. Made a few more runs into town, since I’m reaching the point where I’m just doing things for the hell of it, leather armor + a leather trenchcoat means I barely worry about most zombies and I decided I needed a vehicle. I found a “like new” Humvee and promptly stole it despite it being the dead of night, after wildly careening through the streets(and through a roadblock) I got it back to base.
Every single other vehicle I’ve found has been in crap shape, and this thing isn’t exactly in great shape after going through a road block, through the corner of a building, and cutting off road in the dark. Time to fix it up, then I’ll load in the stuff I need and hit the road.

You may be in for a headache. Recently some code was put in to allow spawned zombies to rejoin the overmap horde, basically to prevent people doing exactly what you wanted to do… But on the plus side horde hearing was reduced by a factor of 5 and hordes were split into 2 types, city hordes and the normal random wanderers. GLHV!

Well, I did get a form on reprieve on the move. While I was shooting up some Zs, I get some sort of game error, something like runtime exception or something like that. So, now my save is pretty much at the point before I switched experimentals, so I’m kinda gonna to change positions on the map to have a more favorable area to start a slaughter in.
Oh my god I love cataclysm. I spent the better half of a day putting together a turret-studded monster truck, gearing up in full power armor with a tricked out RM88, all needs met long ago. Take it out for it’s first maiden voyage across the wastelands, in my insane 20x monster spawn AND wandering hordes Hell on Earth. Plow through literal fields of zeds and specials, dragon turrets setting all of existence on fire as I pass, railgun turrets making me regret using the sound addition mod mere seconds after turning them on. I was more than death. I was the thing that kills death.
And then the horde appeared. THE horde. Mile after mile of shambling flesh greeted me as I came barreling out of the treeline, and without hesitation I opened the throttle and roared ahead. Turrets began firing wildly as I obliterate the first couple dozen zeds, jamming my foot down I go even faster. Nothing can stop me now.
And then I lose control. And begin powersliding sideways, at 192km/hr, through a mountain of solid flesh. My seatbelt breaks, and I’m sent through the reinforced glass like a jack-in-the-box, tumbling out and smashing into a nice solid tree. The last thing I see as the rest of the horde descends on me is my monstertruck still sliding away, still firing, still killing, still hurting my eardrums. I slowly die to the fading sound of my chariot of death driving onward forever, bringing unreal annihilation to anything catastrophically unfortunate enough to encounter it.
Wow that sounds awesome I would have loved to have seen that
Wish ya recorded it
I think I’ll deal with one pump station first before I move on to the latest experimental.
Through sheer luck, there’s three pump stations on the map. One is somewhat close by the base… and now I’m hoping that this doesn’t prevent NPC spawn since I need more meat to fill my cannibal cuisine vault.
Hmm, the pump station town is too swamped with zombies. Instead of going down from there, there’s a normal town next door, and the south edge of that I cleared out. I’ll go down on one of the house basements there, and tunnel my way towards the pump station. Should make transport of goods somewhat easier, too.
I forgot how easy it is to find ammo via tunneling. Go down on basement, and with a UPS powered electric jackhammer, dig around the surrounding neighborhood. Found three gun basements from getting sidetracked of my original goal to go under the pump station.
when doing that do we need to support the roof?
Nope. Though I did notice some areas of rock being opened up for some reason; probably the house above collapsing from hulk attacks. I haven’t been buried in rubble despite haphazard jackhammering underground, in any case.
