Because this is actually a pretty decent story.
Well, there was this NPC companion who suddenly decided to try and punch me to death. My PC was a Tough, Thick Skinned character with 12 Str, wearing a leather jacket. So the whole thing was hilarious but annoying. So I stabbed him to death, and butchered the corpse, ate the flesh and went on my merry way. Another dead NPC and a dead Jabberwock later*, I realized that killing innocent people is a thing that takes a while to wear off. Since I couldn’t craft or read anything, I decide to go for a drive, since the world was new and mostly unexplored.
This joyride led me past a huge swamp**, the middle of a town, and right past a regional school. I swear to god I tried to swerve away from the little fuckers but they threw themselves onto the path of my truck, and there was a horde right behind me so I wasn’t eager to stop, either. At this point, I was pretty wasted, and wanted to go back to one of the comfy LMOE shelters I’d found, so I kept driving, fumbling at the controls rather majorly because I’d never driven a truck in my life and had already downed about 4 shots of Vodka. I couldn’t take the same road through the swamp, so instead I took one that was about 8 tiles away from a triffid grove. It was fairly far away, so I didn’t expect anything bad to happen.
Cue a pair of triffid queens spawning in the middle of the road, along with assorted triffid enemies. I kicked up the gas and didn’t stop until I reached the end of that road, my truck in fairly decent condition. In spite of having run over everything but the kitchen sink. And a Jabberwock. Then, suddenly everything was fairly uneventful until I ran out of gas and had to walk the remaining 5 or 6 tiles into the shelter in the middle of a Thunderstorm. A shelter with no food or clean water.
Another average day in the fucking post-apocalypse.
*“Hey, could you kill this epic monster in the woods, that by the way, is right here OH GOD WHAT THE-” followed by various crunching sounds. That was the fastest failed mission I’ve ever had.
**Thank god for windshields and windshieldwipers.
