What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?

I found a bug (i think) where a field can act as a major swamp, with many, many swamp mobs. as this was right next to my base, and on day 1…

Have you had any swamps on map screen?

Also sometimes map tiles overwrite each other.

I once saw a house inside a house with a road going through it.

And I was like DAFAWQ?

on the other side of the town.

Random drops are kind of goofy at times. I killed a turret in a science lab, and it dropped almost 50 items!

Indeed, if one is lucky enough, there are usually enough components in those 50 items to make another three turrets. Hm, actually, perhaps I should start a turret-harvesting project now…

Stockpiling in my farm, and gaining skills for my assaults on the nearby labs and military outposts. Also my flatbed is nearly upgraded do a more robust vehicle, more gas tanks and more boards for protection maybe a bed.

I’ve finally survived a whole “year” and am back to spring. The first year, I lived in a sewage plant, devoid of wildlife. Raiding the nearby town with bow and arrow, trying to get what food I could, boiling the water in the plant.

Eventually, I raided my first military outpost with an SKS to outrange the turrets, and walked out with ~1500 9mm rounds. They went to use clearing the local city, which was depopulated of zombies enough to let the triffids move in.

Abandoning that city, I began work on a bike, and learnt how to drive by shocker zombies, grab their corpses, chuck them in the bike, and butcher them for the lovely lovely CBMs back at home.

Now I am a god. I have finally left my home, in a 6T truck, packed full of CBMs, and a 2 jerrycans filling up with mutagen and purifier.

Of note, 1195 killed normal Zs, and about 500 specials.

I think I have won.

So started a new game as a material arts expert with the ultimate goal in mind being to kill an entire horde with just fists. Just for the lulz, I went ahead and killed the starting NPC who quickly equipped a Chemistry Textbook and fought for a glorious one turn before dying. Then I noted what she had…

A frigging ton of Adderall, Xanax, cocaine, marijuana, tramadol, Prozac, and some other drugs! Wait wah, haw? What was a female NPC doing with all these drugs?!

EDIT: Alright, that entire town was strange. There was at least one house that had a toilet almost half the size of the entire house, Cougars jumped over the glass walls of clothing stores back and forth, there are no first aid kits or bandages in the entire town (presumably, nobody ever got a cut or injured in the town.), and let us not forget that the karate technique I picked at the start turned into a frigging CHEAP LIGHTER while I was engaged in a fight with a Hulk!

And I was wondering why I was suddenly dealing damages less than 3 instead of the 10+ I dealt before. At least the cheap lighter came in use when lighting up the gasoline of the only gas station in town to die a quick death.

I killed a zombie cop, and he dropped three riot helmets. I can’t imagine he was wearing them all at the same time!

He had them stacked on top of each other.

Okay. Well, I’ve always hated him and his movies and now he’s decided to rear his ugly head at my safehouse the day that I finally find a wood axe and fell a tree to use to cook the pile of wolf meat that I have. We face off, spaghetti western style, and I draw the crossbow I made the night before and slam a bolt through his chest. Then I saunter up and critically one-hit him with my blood-stained crowbar +2 for massive damage with the guns that you get when you’re running around chopping trees down and judo-chopping local fauna. And then the game crashes. Fuck.

I reload, and luckily I had only recently started playing again, so I still have my axe and everything. He shows up again, I critically strike him with the crossbow. Flop, crash.

Is there any way to manually take him out of the game, preferably without having to make a new world or character? I can certainly outrun him and lose him in the forest, and have done so before, but he’s just become so frustratingly annoying because the only thing stopping me from killing him and dumping his body in his well-deserved sewage-filled grave is a bit of code that has his items all screwy: monster.cpp[629]: Type Actual Cannibal Shia LaBeouf has item_chance 40 but no items assigned!

Worked for me in CZS, just happened a few minutes ago.

So a stack of riot helmets would look roughly like this?

The time has come! INCREASE THE FLOCK!

Buying that hat for 1.66 ref.

Part 2 of my story so far any updates I make after this are as they happen.
At last, night time I emerge from the lab and idea of my new physical form being ‘The Future of Humanity’ start to creep into my mind, who could blame me I AM by far better in every possible way compared to a basic human. I wander aimlessly for a while find a bunch of what I guess are dead drug dealers, lot’s of Cocaine marijuana and some heroin found on their corpses, they won’t be needing those drugs anymore it’s best I take them for my own use. After several more hours of wandering around I notice the sun starting to rise and quickly rush to find someplace that I can hide from the sun in, I find a FEMA camp and quickly clean out all the zombies inside, tragic place it was meant to be a long term shelter to protect from the zombies and seems like everyone inside became one. I think I will make a base out of this camp, plenty of crates around to store stuff in, isolated no risk from zombies, A few traps and the local wildlife can easily provide me with all the food I could need I spend 2 days(nights) hauling the rest of those mini-nukes
I then go exploring east of the camp to gather MREs, other tinned foods and bottles of water to store for emergencies. I find the sun rising and I am too far from the camp to make it back without being killed burning from the sun I find a military bunker nearby I still have some military ID cards from first travels since The Cataclysm. Inside is a wealth of high tech gear, several CBM’s like Metabolic Interchanges, Ethanol Burners, Blood filters, targeting systems and do my eyes deceive me? Could it really be a Boeing XM-P plasma riffle? Hell yes it is and a load of hydrogen for it and there is several weapon modifications I can use on it, a silencer, extended mag, under slung shotgun.
I stay in the bunker for the day and leave the CBM behind as I don’t know enough about installing them at the moment to risk damaging myself or the CBMs I make it my priority to find some books on such a subject. As I head to the nearby town I am greeted with zombies of all kinds everywhere time to test out my new toy. Turns out the plasma rifle is godly good vaporizing everything I shoot, minimal recoil, good accuracy it’s the high-tech solution I’ve been looking for all this time and then things got a little hectic picking off one by one wasn’t cutting down the crowd fast enough so I switch on burst fire mode, it mows everything down nicely, I then run out of power in my UPS and thus can’t use it to power my Plasma rifle, darn so I go charging at the crowd and proceed to smash zombies with my hooves and then impale them on my horns. My Alterations make me formidable in melee combat who needs swords or the likes to fight I’ve got horns that skewer everything and hooves that shatter bones like their twigs and let’s not forget the tail is amazing at balancing I can put myself in positions that a human would fall flat on the ground and be perfectly balanced, this improved balancing makes dodging the zombies attacks much easier. However I still find myself getting surrounded thinking that this is the end of my journey I take a load of the drugs I recently found, they greatly improve my speed and my perception of time somewhat slows down making react to things better. I get out of being swarmed and then slowly whittle away the crowd of zombies. I survived; the zombies didn’t, dawn is coming and I need to make my way back to the bunker where it is safe from the zombies and the sun. I am too stimulated to get to sleep but I must to pass the day so I don’t burn on my travels, so I consume a bunch of sleeping pills and drink some rum to get to sleep.
Still no books on electronics and I am still not installing any bionics, I’ve noticed lately the temperature are much higher, even for night time temperatures than the last couple of days I am guessing it must be summer now. My trip to the local library didn’t go quite as planned I grab a bunch of books on electronics and it seems the zombies come wanting me to sign their books for them, I sign them alright, with a hoof to face, or tear their heads off wile impaling their neck on my horns, My immediate plan to escape is to take more drugs, I think I am becoming addicted to them. I reach the bunker at last and struggle to get to sleep due to constant cravings for drugs. More sleeping pills I feel like I am getting addicted to those as well, fantastic.
I wake up and it is still too sunny outside for me, so I spend the day resisting all the cravings and reading about electronics after a while I feel confident enough to try installing some bionics. I successfully install several internal batteries, a Targeting System, Scent Vision, Blood Filter, Blood Analysis, Enhanced Memory Banks, Metabolic Interchange and an Ethanol Burner. I am still having massive cravings. With all the cravings inhibiting me I decide for a while I shouldn’t do anything too strenuous like fighting, I figure I should head back west to the FEMA camp, in the meantime I camp out in a nearby farm, where sit and reflect back on my life while overcoming an addiction to drugs.
Part 1 is here.

I retired my karate guy because I decided karate is just a bit too powerful. Get a set of chitin arm guards can you deflect nearly unlimited enemies, as long as you can keep it down to 2-3 of them at a time, although some foes will manage to sneak an attack past your blocks (mostly foes that grab, but hulks can do it too - I guess they’re too powerful to block reliably). So I started a new melee character on a 0.3 windows binary that LazyCat compiled.

For the most part, my new game was going fairly well, even though it seems meleeing with a kevlar vest on takes a very long time. Then I made a critical mistake: I dropped a line of rags on the ground and lit them up to thin out a zombie advance without realizing this would cause a more potent fire than the “small” fires I normally use, and this fire could spread on dirt. So I ended up spending a few rounds standing in fire myself without realizing it. Despite having damaged my legs badly by standing in a fire, having that low of leg hit points meant my legs were now considered “broken.” Without any idea where a hospital could be found, it was actually sort of fortunate I was put out of my misery when a giant web spider found me.

Today I find a quad bike and loads of vehicle parts, such as frames, large electric motors, solar panels etc I stuff the parts I can’t carry myself into the quads trunk and drive to according to the radio I used to distract giant worms, FEMA camp 9120 the place I call home now. Before driving off I gather misc bits and pieces around town to work on building my own weapons and explosives. When I get home I build myself a flame thrower.

I take my newly made flamethrower and a jerrycan and head into town on foot to load up on gasoline, after filling up I go on the hunt for zombies to reduce to ashes. In the process I burn down half the town laughing maniacally as I do so from now I shall refer to this town as ‘Cindash’ a portmanteau of cinder and ash some-what fitting I feel. I flee at sunrise and sleep for the day in the nearby Lab

i bow to your mastery of the pilot light!

Running low on water best to make a trip to the river to the north east of the camp, I get on my quad bike and set off on the road stooping at a surprisingly quiet town on the way a place I now refer to as ‘Ghost’ I encountered no more than 5 zombies while looting the place, I set of again during the next night to the town right next the river thinking it might be a good place to stock up on other supplies.

Theres a fine reason why I refer to this town as ‘Hellholm’ now I encountered loads of Hulk and brute zombies as well as find a hospital stuffed with zombies that burning it down seemed the best option, I load 6 jerrycans and several dozen bottles with river water to purify later and put them in the one of the trunks of the quadbike I run around looting places dozens upon dozens of zombies of all kinds are there I grab what I can load up the quad and execute adavanced tactic: R.S.L.G.

I take a slightly different route home stopping at a farm on the way witch has a semi truck outside, I dismantle the semi and spend several days on upgrading my quadbike. I decide to take the ‘Off Road’ route back to the camp plough through trees and giant beehive which I stop and loot for honeycomb. I later make it back to the camp and begin unloading evything into the various crates around the camp I now have enough food and water to last me a rather long time. Weather is getting pretty cold out theres no need to be going out into at least not for a long time.

And this maybe the end of this character for me as I want to update to 0.3 and saves don’t tend to be compatible.
Managed to last to winter for my first time ever.

Got my last character to day 9 of spring. He’s settled for good, so I might not come back to him for a while.

Here’s his journey:

He’s a what I’d call a survivalist.
STR 10
DEX 12
INT 8
PER 8

Heavy Sleeper
Glass Jaw
Addictive personality
Trigger happy
Wool allergy
Truth teller

Dodge 2
Archery 2
Cooking 2
Construction 2
Survival 4
Traps 2
Tailoring 2
First aid 2
Swimming 2

Spawned in the middle of a swamp area. After building my nail board I escaped through the back door while the NPC was fighting giant mosquitoes. Swam my way to the city though the narrowest part of the river and started scavenging the houses in the periphery.

I settled provisionally in one of the most far away houses and proceeded to collect all the needed materials to build a shelter kit. A 30ft rope found in the sporting goods center was disassembled to provide the necessary strings and thread. Leather was obtained by cutting leather pants and jackets.

Finally I proceeded to explore the wilderness fully equipped to try to find a definitive shelter. Which I found. Probably the best located farm ever. The water isn’t really needed, as the farm has a toilet, but it’s a welcome addition. The mansion and FEMA camp provide a fix for the scavenging, combat and exploring itches.

With that said, this character is set for good. It could now die of old age if that was possible. Wolves and cougars provide and endless meat, pelt and sinew source. Water isn’t a problem (toilet AND a river). And morale can be easily maintained when you have a roof over your head. I also built a brazier, so I can boil water and cook without even having to go outside.

I might keep playing it later, but it’s usually at this stage that the game becomes boring for me. There’s no actual challenges other than the ones you create by forcing you into dangerous situations.

Found a ridiculous gun and 400 rounds for it in a lab in the middle of the woods. It was guarded by 4 'R’s who just happened to be looking the other way when I picked it up and loaded it. Fzzt! Fzzt! reload Fzzt! Fzzt!. end of combat.

So I stumbled across a menagerie of weird-ass creatures in glass cages in another lab. We had ourselves a little tussle when a giant red ‘E’ got all uppity and started redecorating. I then proceeded to convince him to be a ‘%’.

I love firing around corners.
