Colt M1911 with mods and a holster.
Otherwise anything with enough ammo.
If it fires plasma, lasers or magnetic metal objects, it’s cool in my book.
Gunpowder weapons are for primitive plebeians.
The rivtech short shotgun or Rivtech revolver, sometimes both. (I don’t know their names :P)
But when I build a deathmobile, I just horde all the guns, mods and ammo I find.
In my last two games I ended up using the L39B-45 a lot. Burst-fire capability in a pistol - and with the powerful but relatively common .45 ACP ammo - makes it versatile, practical to carry around in a holster all the time, and a lifesaver in tough spots. A single burst at close range seems to take out shocker brutes, etc with no trouble.
Also it’s apparently supposed to resemble the Auto-9, so that’s cool.
Reflex-recurve bow.
A short shotgun in a holster is a good backup when you need something really dead really now.
RM99 Revolver for mid to late game.
Any old shotgun if it’s early game.
Also those Rivtech shotguns that use 20x66mm.
Toss-up between American 180 and it’s big cousin the Calico M960.
SMGs with extremely high rate of fire that eat super common ammo and have almost no recoil.
Random wiki crawl brought up the Bizon, a Russian SMG with similar characteristics. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bizon_SMG
Steyr AUG, with only a little modding lets me autofire all the time without stopping to wait off recoil. 5.56 ammo is easily craftable and kills everything up to and including those ED-209 robochickens.
The only area where 5.56 isn’t best is long range sniping. For that I picked up a .308 rifle with sniper conversion and zero dispersion, but ended up almost never using it.
I also considered using Milkor MGL with 40mm flechette shells. Fun but doesn’t take brass catchers or any recoil dampeners.
I love my AKs.
the M1911 is fantastic.
be lootan
suddenly child zombie
next is brains all over the walls
repeat for any basic zombie ever
Pneumatic Bolt Driver FTW. Early game, build up archery, then make metal crossbow bolts. You get ammo for a silent and deadly gun, perfect for any night raid, labs, mines etc.

from the game that introduced me to the Biz: http://syphonfilter.wikia.com/wiki/BIZ-2
I think it would be cool to see the Bizon added, of the calibers listed in the wiki you posted, it could be chambered to use 9mm or 7.62x25mm Tokarev
Off-topic snippit: Syphon Filter is a good game, IMO Syphon Filter & Metal Gear > Splinter Cell
I use a Remington 700 +rail-mounted crossbow +40mm launcher for general exploration, and a FN-57 for close up.
When looting small scale things like houses, I take the leadworks 'lookout’
For stuff like malls I take either the L12 or long ranger

Damn those racist Cata!Americans not being willing to import my slavshit AK/SMG’s with a stupidly large magazine.
My current weapon of weapons is an M27 IAR because there’s no FN MAG or its Americanized version, the M240.
RM59 Revolver. Small, portable, and a tactical 120 headshot with viscera showering everywhere whenever you need it! YAY!
I do like me a bullet crossbow too though. Purely because BULLET CROSSBOW.
Whenever I can find one… I use a Colt M1911. Yeah it may have 7 bullets, but damn you feel like a bad-ass when wielding it.
Sling a Barrett, holster a RM228, and wield a DREAD. I like to carry a nice variety of 20x66mm ammo, it’s so darn flexible.
Moist Nugget just for fun.
Cap and ball army revolver because you can just disassemble any ammo you find and disassemble some books and have all the different ammo types converted to one big pile of the same.
My dream gun however would be the mome made rail rilfe. I always die before my electronics skill reaches 9 because I’m stupid.
To go by categories:
Handguns: Fiveseven or USP
Smgs: Vector or P90
Rifles: Rsil rifle, moist nugget
Shotgun: Double barrel. Get of ma lawn y’all
M2 Browning.
Moving down the horde has never been as glorius!
Though the pneumatic rifles are the best for the economical survivor.
