What do you most want to see in game?

Well… Then something must’ve caused a fire then. Perhaps an NPC threw a Molotov?

I’ve been trying a more wilderness survival build lately and I have two suggestions. On one hand I want to see more reasons to loot the surrounding towns for gear and on the other I think its odd that I mainly loot for string, A way of making this from rags with high enough skill would be appreciated.

Add “We’ll have to part ways now.” option in NPC chat. Sucks to ask them to teach you something, then letting them lead, just to tell them “I gotta go, I wish to be alone. Really. Really really. I JUST WANT YOU TO STOP FOLLOWING ME!”

Also, but this would really hurt… Multiple story houses, with roofs and basements? Say, like those big office buildings? Skyscrapers… Yeehaw! snipes few Z’s from the roof then trips over and splats himself on the pavement 13 floors lower

Hmmmm… Maybe, lockpicks (with their own associated skill) + metal doors which hide some good stuff behind them (something like vaults, but without computer console), or safe (strongbox)? I know, you can hammer through with jacqueshammer :), but those should be built really sturdy, inaccesible by any other means, and containing good things (depending on which building they are in - gunstore: gun mods, cop station: CBM, and so on)

the Z-levels are unlikely to make it in anytime soon, due to map handling and other pervasive related issues.

I want to see a way to launch that ICBM from the silo, or detonate one stashed in the lab. The final solution.

I trust in your abilities, Darkling Wolf!

Yea, I read about it after posting my little wish… No biggie. It’s just that towns now look like… villages. Some are really big villages, but not cities. It’s like whole America was made from standard one sheriff towns before the cataclysm. High buildings, along with widespread, vast cities that take more than two hours walk to explore them - that would add new dimension. All these zombie movies (I know, cata isn’t all about zombies, but they’re main puller, there’s just something about getting swarmed by undeads while looting for food), they’re mostly about survivors vs zombies in large buildings, large cities. I always wanted to live on a roof of multiple story building, waking every morning, picking up my binoculars and checking numbers of Z’s on the streets before planning my looting route. (you know, that 28 days later feeling, when main protagonist and his black girl meet old guy in riot armor, he defends them and then they’re on roof… That kind of feeling. If it was in this movie) I know it would require really hard coding (I would help, it’s just that I know shit about coding, and I really don’t have enough time on my hands), this is just my small wish.

If it makes you feel any better, all the residences are abstracted ideas, and not intended to be a 1 for 1 representation.
Meaning that that set of houses in downtown is more likely a set of large apartment complexes.
How else would you be able to have ~50 zombies waiting to spawn for every house?

So that means if I ride my car I technically ride 50 cars?
Wow, didn’t knew this is a strategy game as a control a small army of @s. xD

From what I read, there are new special areas planned, so we’ll probably get those apartment complexes. I’m just trying to sugest more life and fun to this AGWLOP (awesome game with lot of potential) - imagine that action hero cliche of desperately jumping through 2nd floor window (trying to land in a pool) to save your ass from horde that’s running up the stairs. It would add a lot of tactical options, like building plank bridges between roofs, climbing ropes hanging high above the street… Dunno why, I love to hold myself in the middle of a town and fight off hordes of Z’s, even though it eventually leads to my demise. In most zombie movies I saw there were survivors trying to survive in their town, slowly running out of supplies.

You’d also have a reason to add helicopters then, and traffic jams full of zombies…

Yeah, I’d love to get a proper Zlevel system in at some point, but it’s not likely to happen in the foreseeable future.

No problem. It’s already packed with ton of fun as it is

I don’t know how possible this is - and it doesn’t really fulfil the dream of sniping at Z’s from a roof or desperately jumping through windows - but couldn’t they just be like a basement, just with the opposite symbol and sync to the outside lighting? No windows would really be needed (although I guess fake ones could be put in).

For me, that’d add enough ‘realism’ (as I do find it a bit jarring only ever having one level houses) and it’d also add nice aspects of running upstairs to hide from Z’s/getting chased about in a house.

That’s not a bad idea. Rest could come later… I think Kevin wrote that they’re somewhat able to do second floors without windows.

Some kind of windchime to attract zeds away from me.

@gtaguy: I’m not sure but I think you can use a radio as an attractant. I haven’t looked at the code for them yet to see if they produce sufficient/any noise that the zombies can hear but if they do then I’ll likely be turning them on, throwing, and running away.

I wish for a way to make wood axes, saws, shovels, and hoes from a heavy stick and a lump of steel, maybe pound the steel out flat using a hammer/rock like you do to make a crowbar from pipes. Saws would be a little more difficult but can probably be made in a limited capacity if there is a razor wire analogue. Then the interaction for saws might be some wood and nails (or steel and welder) to make the frame and the razor wire attached to it to make something akin to a coping saw. The wire would probably have to dull out pretty quickly to make it viable for addition to the game so you have a way of consuming the wire in some way. Sure, the wearing out could be seen as just an attrition of resources, but it would be nice to use as a temporary tool so you don’t have to obsessively raid hardware stores.

Also, general wear and tear on objects, and a way to repair them back to usefulness would be awesome to me and would fit in with the overall survival aspect of the game. Do you keep your newly sharpened hatchet or grab that dull machete? This would probably only really work with bladed objects since a blunt object is just as effective if its surface is pitted. For the blunt force weapons, though, maybe the handle could break or bend?

The radio isn’t all that loud, so it wouldn’t be that great at this. TODO: Firecrackers.

DarklingWolf has been pondering a system for weapons wearing out, nothing productive yet, but we’re on the case.

If I get some time for personal projects after the contract I am working on is finished I’ll see if I can put some time to helping further DDA’s progress and hopefully make some of these TODOs a reality

Nothing will work to lure Zombies away from you if they can See you.
A stick of dynamite just outside kill range from the Zombie, won’t stop him from chasing you from 3 screens away.

Well they follow sound better than scent. Sight>Sound>Smell

True, this type of shenanigan works best with blind enemies (worms) or in the dark. If they can see you or they saw you recently, they’ll ignore the noise and keep coming after you.
