What do you most want to see in game?

I have a strange idea to implement boats to travel over the water and to escape from zombie hordes. But I don’t know how to implement how to sail under the bridges…

Please-please-please, return that fancy shading system, it worked nice and there were not any lags with it.

@uzername: I think a lot of people were experiencing lags on waiting as it had to calculate everything in, this got much more problematic when a very large area had been explored as it had to compute it over a huge area (this is my impression anyway, I might not be completely correct).
I have to agree that it was nice, but for me it slowed it down too much for Cataclysm to be playable for any length of time.

Just picked up the game a week ago and I’m loving it so far.

I would love to have a key binding for “repeat last command.” This would make it a lot easier to dig a line of pits, craft a batch of wooden spears, or read the same book repeatedly.

Here’s a fun workaround: Some terminals allow you to paste text into them. Here’s a benchark and a starter kit that I wrote a few weeks ago, if you’re on an eligible system.

This probably won’t work on native windows. It might work on cygwin. It definitely works on linux.

Very nice, wish Win7 still had terminal.

Install an openssh on it, and use putty/kitty?

Thanks for the idea, but I am using native Windows

Install native openssh on it… trollface

This is another argument for me to get around to, and accepting the hassle of, installing CygWin.
One day, linux, one day.

i know some of those things had been said but i wrote this as i play and then read whole topic.
also, Devs, great work so far. keep it up

so what i would like to see in game?

bigger focus on survival: ie less edible wild animals, most of them tainted, or less spawning in general. this is especially true to wolves as with their low combat strength they are essentially home delivered snacks with fur. non-combat ways to get food (except for scavenging)
higher melee combat difficulty for certain mobs: slicing down bear with just combat knife is of course possible but…

some more skills that would govern certain aspects of game:
ie. chemistry for making things like drugs, mutagens, explosives and gunpowder,
leadership/charisma for allowing NPCs to follow player orders/faction,
smithing for making tools and building components etc
bioengineering/genetics for help with SCIENCE!, i mean to manage artificial mutation process (on followers or yourself)
security for bypassing those nasty card readers and breaking locks.

creating and managing your army of survivors:
get NPCs followers to act as workers, guards, scouts, scavengers, warriors, engineers, medics, etc, to offset shortcomings of player, combat/defend against enemy factions or just zombie horde, etc. Being on your own is fun of course but shouldnt be as easy.

also, area threat rating: the longer you stay in one place, the bigger chance for horde or attack to happen. so either be on the move constantly, or get good defenses.

making vehicle slide (L…O…R) display work for regular turns as well, and maybe some kind of pointer how much distance will your vehicle cover in next turn based on current speed (accurate based on driving skill)

construction/furniture special options: as making stone/concrete walls, building up special furniture (chemistry workstation for making chems, fridge/cold basement to keep food edible, fireplaces, kitchen, various generators to power up compound, indoors lighting and heating, rain catchers, medstations, distilleries, and probably a lot more.)

crafting in a batch, and repeat last action command.

vehicles! well, yea. helicopters, boats, hovers. this is teh future after all.

option NOT to use integrated tool set heating abilities when other source of heat (fire, hotplate) is available.

bionics that enhances stats.

bionics would require maintenance.

also, mental instability linked to “too many” bionics installed, and/or too many mutations gained. very nasty one given enough time and little treatment.

expanded crafting, with ability to make most of the items out there (with of course need of advanced crafting furniture for many more advanced items)

dungeon mini-maps : paper+pencil, or some kind of computer mapper, 'a’pply to see map of explored dungeon, or just current areamap without LOS restrictions.

EDIT: oh i remembered:

separation of inventory and equipment pages, making both clearer, showing what is worn where, and what is carried in what. storage items working as containers so dropping backpack before combat would remove all items in it from inventory as well.

stacking of items on ground maybe and/or “pick all” command as well.
/EDIT

cheers

How about sling (less accurate, more powerful) and slingshot (less powerful, more accurate) to throw rocks?

I’d really like to see some sort of permanent fixed lighting. Something like candles that lasts longer. I would use fires but those go out too fast and usually end up burning down the entire block.

I want to see the XP/skill training system completely revamped. Experience pool and training-through-repetition are big no-no’s in my book. I’m brainstorming ideas at the moment.

Inventory management is playable at the moment, the only addition is recursive containers. make backpacks/rucksacks store stuff, so you can drop and pick them up in a pinch.

Also bulldozers.

The XP skill thing does need to be reworked as well, imo. go to sleep, wake up with 800 exp. how does that work? lol.

I just want the underground crash bug to be fixed. really anoying having the game crash every time you step around in the labatory.

know what this game needs? dinosaurs. nuff said

That would bring up whole new meaning of tentacle porn. (And doing it with antlers would be awesome.)
Do it, do it nao.

Things like backpacks add space when wielded. thats what i want.

A few posts ago somebody else commented on this, but I’d REALLY like NPCs to be more useful besides a zombie horde magnet. On static spawn, this is an amazing help if you somehow get the NPC into the middle of a mine field or near a gas station.
Like perhaps tell the NPCs to stand guard on a specific tile, or perhaps have them build specific things (like pits or walls) on specific tiles, or going out on a patrol path you define (on the map screen that is).
I also know that you’re wanting to update the graphics, lightning, and map systems (like adding in actual layers). I was thinking we needed street lights that at the start have no power, but there will be power plants that power lets say a 10x10 area on the map. (and make them spawn with at least 20 tiles between them so there’s no overlapping power plants). Turning on the power plant and keeping it running leaves the lights on.
Perhaps even multiple ways to power the grid (underground substations + generators?). Some less noisy (solar panels?) and some more noisy (gas generators?). Thinking about it, there IS a generator mob/creature. Perhaps fueling and turning on a gas generators to power an electrical grid, and then defending said generator against nearby hordes to keep the juice (electricity) flowing…
Also, the ability to place cables, flood lights, and generators (solar panels, gas generators, minireactor…) and then use the cables to connect the generators to the lights/metal fences (electric fences anyone?) to power them. Just saying, that’d be cool. Oh, and batteries to store electricity too. So when the sun goes down, your solar powered electrical fence doesn’t become useless.
That about sums up what I want without overburdening you guys.
