Powered Power Armors

How about we add powered power armors as monsters in game? It’d really increase difficulty in labs, and military related locations; for example, imagine facing a Mk. II-H power armor. I already made a code of the monster, and I await suggestions!
If you ask about lore: D-T could have offered some power armors, with OS’es linked to the mainframe, in order to help against the outbreak. As all the robots linked to the mainframe, the power armors had gone rogue too.

Um… Power armor isn’t a robot, or made to be automatically controlled.

And if you’ve been bitten by a zombie while wearing a suit of power armor, then you must be really bad at putting it on. Power armor covers your entire body, and doesn’t allow you to wear anything else, even underwear.

I never said anything of it being a robot. You can wear it, so it’s hollow; inside, there may be electric stuff, servomotors etc. which basically make the armor a robot linked to the mainframe. If defeated, these things could be taken out, and you got your armor!

…I wouldn’t be opposed to a zombie in PA. The goo reanimates regardless of the person being bit, so it’d be amusing to run into a zombie without a bite attack but an insanely high damage protection…

FSN, you aren’t up on your zombie lore are you?

  1. People always get bitten and turn much later, plenty of time to be caugt off-guard and bitten, then die in your armor later, especially if you spent all your time in the armor so people don’t know about the festering wound that’s slowly killing you
  2. Our zombie lore doesn’t even require a bite, you could have been killed by anything.
2.a In fact you probably got killed by something violent, meaning your armor is damaged (which is needed to balance this a bit).

I don’t see a good rationale for having the armor be powered, if it was on when the wearer died, it would have run out of juice by the time you found it, and if it was off, the zombie wouldn’t know how to turn it on. That implies it would be super tough (specificically having ludicrous armor) but slow and possibly not that good at hitting you. Variants of it could have gotten stronger and not face penalties for being in a power suit though, two variants come to mind immediately, which are effectively brutes and shockers stuck in suits. the brute would be effectively unemcumbered just because it’s gotten inhumanly strong, (though astill not as strong/fast as a regular brute) and the shocker WOULD be powering the armor from inside.

I see two parts of the challenge of a power armored zombie, one is just killing it, many melee weapons and small arms would simply be useless. The second is killing it without wrecking the armor, so YOU can use it  That might be even harder.

If you just want a tough, mobile enemy with possibly some techy toys/weapons, just make a anthro robot that walks around.

Like a cyborg that isn’t broken and suicidal?

Thanks for ideas! The zombie parts sound nice, and, currently, the special attack of the robo-PA is the takedown.
I initially thought this monster as your everyday PA, with a bot inside which controls it. I’ll try to do the zombie-PA’s, expand to the other PA’s (my code is for the heavy one; single wep which killed it was the Tankbot Main Gun; possibly you can kill it with the mininuke launcher) and even a DT power armor factory. I think it’d be 3x3, with a production line, storage room etc… I think I’d need some official ideas on this one.

I know underground secret bases have been mentioned. Power Armor manufacturing definitely seems like something that should be hidden.

Is power armour written in the lore as some secret project?

If PA is just something that certain units in the US military get, the PA factories shouldn’t be hidden. They should be in the open. In cities. With big fences around them. And military-level turrets and search lights around them.

So that when you want to go there, you can be assured to get swarmed in zombies.

Powered armor is officially Not Yet Ready For Prime Time. Doctrine at the time of the cataclysm was that it’s suitable for small squads that are deployed from either a truck or a specialized carrier (has charging points for the armors’ power packs) but isn’t suitable for long-term use.

As such, it’s not Top Secret but the details are likely kinda vague. The “naked in the suit” detail* would get giggly press once it came out and there were probably some publicity shots of troops in 'em, and it’s possible but rare to find 'em in a milsurp. So yeah, known publicly but not well.

*DoubleTech PA requires complete and direct skin contact for its control mechanisms, so you can’t wear anything underneath it. That’s one of the major advantages to the Rivtech suit, which only restricts footgear.

Wait, wait, wait! Before I try one on, I really want to know, why it restricts wearing panties/briefs? How does the suit tell the difference in anatomy? Why does the suit need to touch me there? Is this some sort of Mr. Garrison design?

Just when you thought Shockers couldn’t get any worse.

Power-Armor Bio-Operator. “It’s bionics seem to be running the armor, worse yet it seems to remember how to operate it too.”

Nooooooo…

Someone please close this thread!

Sent report about the spamming.

Also, do we have some kind of low-cost power armor in the game?

Thanks! I also sent some reports on those bots.

About the low-cost PA, I think you can make a salvaged power armor by dismantling (crafting) a basic power armor, but never used them.
The RM-13 is a kind of PA, it is very rare, but more powerful, energy efficient and you can wear other clothing besides it.

I just found one in a bank vault. Can it be powered with bionics? Also, I don’t think it’s more powerful than PA, just more well-rounded and mobile.
