Monsters and targetted attacks

Im not completely familiar with the exact code behind it, but practically Ive come to expect monsters to target the least armored area of your body more frequently than anywhere else. Is this true, and does it have a justification in the case of zombies or other nonsentient life?

In my experience zombies in particular tend to attack the least armored part of your body and prioritize targeting storage clothing items. If you have a backpack or other storage item worn, even under layers of other clothing, it is the most likely to get damaged or ripped. Likewise they go for the least armored part of your body.

t isn’t true. They target randomly, weighted by their accuracy vs. your dodge.
Bad dodging will make them go for the head and eyes, good dodging will mean that hits that land will often land on arms and legs.
Small attackers hit lower body parts more often, large attackers the upper.

To expand on Coolthulu’s comment, a “better” hit will target a more vulnerable body part. The selector for this is the same for all monsters, but it shouldn’t be.

Zombies (except perhaps bio operators or similar) should just flail at you randomly, proficient attackers (go for the eyes boo!) should go for vulnerable spots, very proficient attackers should weigh vulnerability vs armor, and some monsters should have preferences for where they attack.

Kinda like giant cave spiders prefer to bite you in the head.

Thats different. Theres a coded preference for all critters to hit the head, all other things being equal. When webbed, all things are equal. When asleep or knocked out, all things are equal.

Send naked people with helmets against them.

You can only re-layer armor and items belonging to same layer of clothing. Since backpacks are “strapped onto you” layer - they are always external layer (except for 2-3 backpack at once, yo can relayer them I suppose). Doesnt matter if you relayered it in “+” menu to be under your t-shirt. As a result as packs are outermost - they get hits more often.
