[ITEMS] Guns An' Shit - yeah, now we're cookin' with gas

I was putzing around with these before Whales moved on, and seeing as we’ve now got DDA I might as well throw this here. Mainly stuff of a considerable cultural or engineering interest or which fills an empty role. Only thing missing is the bits for the M26’s unloading data but that’s just a quick jaunt to game.cpp and a cloning of the m203 data from what I’ve seen:

I don’t do .diffs and the like so you’ll have to insert it yourself. Should work OK since the only difference I spotted was the skill name change from the regular to DDA version and that’s been dealt with. Now if only I could remember how to properly insert them without screwing up items after it (which I can then forget the next time I lose interest, thus starting the cycle anew)…

These aren’t generated in the map yet, but you can wish for them.

Which of these are futuristic scifi things? Which would you expect to be sold in a store?

Yess…

this pleases me. now to insert and enjoy

Masterkey, nice.

Yes. Good. Indeed. We need more gun porn in this game.
Masterkey, nice.
Actually, the Masterkey is a modified Remington 870, with a specialized 3-round tubular magazine. The M26 and the Masterkey serve the same purpose, but the M26 is reloaded faster (due to it’s magazine) and can be made into it’s own individual shotgun.

If you’re adding more gun-related stuff, might I suggest a few more guns and attachments?

Guns

  • M16A1/A4 (20/30rds .223, respectively)
  • Winchester M1887 (5 rds shot)
  • Webley Mk VI (6rds .45)
  • Browning Hi-Power (13rds 9mm)
  • Makarov PM (8rds 9mm)
  • Kel-Tec PLR-16 (20rds .223, technically a handgun)
  • IMI Galil (35rds .223)
  • Glock 18 (33rds 9mm)

Attachments

  • Reflex/Red Dot Sight (all guns; increase accuracy slightly)
  • Tactical Flashlight (all guns; 'a’ctivating the gun turns on/off the light)

I’m not sure how well the flashlight attachment would work, but the Reflex Sight might be a less-effective, but more common optic to increase accuracy. The extra guns might seem a bit excessive, but the Webley and the M1887 shotgun might be a nice addition IMO.

can you add a repeating crossbow?
slightly less damage but can hold 10 bolts at a time.

I’d be happy to merge these, but i need some feedback on where you’d find them. Which would you find in a military setting? In homes? In a weapon shop?

Forgive my ignorance, but the SW nullifier & the hologram sight are scifi things that don’t really exist, right? So you might find them in a bunker or a lab, right? Those WWI pistols might be found in a pawnshop instead of a gun store, right?

or a mansion. a repeating crossbow might be found in a similar location as they have a long history of use and are currently just museum pieces. you might be able to make one… say out of a crossbow, a pair of 2x4s, some nails…

Very enjoyable, possibly the reason I learned how to compile this game. The Mateba is gorgeous in real life and having one in Zombieland makes everything better. Could use a bit of a high kick though, I don’t understand why it has a 2 damage bonus while the m1911 has a 6, way more than the Desert Eagle or the Ruger. Even with its lower accuracy it has a far higher damage bonus than the newer USP .45. Not that I complain, I love the 1911 Colt in any game, sadly never got my hands on one.
I second the 1887 for the same reason, it’s cool to have a lever action shotgun.
Definitely would say SW nullifier can only be found in bunkers and labs, from the stats it reduces noise by 99%, not really something we have. Hologram sight is relatively common, though in military use so I would say FEMA camps or military outpost at the least.

Possibile additions for me would be
SIG Sauer P220 in any of the calibers (9x19 mm, .38, .45, 7.65x21 Luger or .22)
maybe the P226 Elite as a very rare stat increase chambered for .40 S&W.
H&K P30 in 9x19
H&K P99 in 9x19 or .40 S&W
Rare in gun shops, maybe police stations (they’ve really always been quite empty for me so far, could use some love)
Also the M92FS or the Taurus PT92, both 9mil (same thing, but the Taurus might be a little more common but a little worse)
More of the Glock family, like the 17 (9x19), the 21 (.45) or the 35 (.40 S&W)
the CZ99 (9x19)

Steyr TMP 9x19
MP5 in K variant, faster firing but more recoil and less accuracy. 9x19
M3A1 in pawn shops or even civilian homes (veterans, gun collectors) .45
Ruger MP9 9x19

Why not the Springfield 1903 30-06, same treatment as the M3A1 and the Thompson in residences and pawn shops or even museums
L85 in 5.56
H&K 416 in 5.56
H&K 417 in 7.62 both as more reliable but a little less damaging version of the FN-SCAR?
LR300 in 5.56 for that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. vibe
And if the G11 is in there, the XM29 OICW in 5.56

… I will shut up now.

Stuff like the Luger or C96 could do well in mansion showcases. Family heirlooms. Smash glass/pick lock, get weapon. Not like you’d find such museum pieces in gun stores, methinks. MAYBE in a pawn shop.

PS. Needs a .700 Nitro Express elephant rifle.

perhaps a “special” rack rarely showing up, in other words, the owners loved weapons hes showing to his customers…

Well, this was received a lot better than I thought it would be.

I’d be rather wary against adding too many more, actually: the ones I did choose were chosen because they either filled a void in the existing armory (all the machineguns and the Striker-12, for example) are of considerable mechanical intrigue (the Liberty III, the Striker-12, the Mateba Autorevolver) or have a considerable cultural presence (the Luger, the Tommygun, the Pancor). With tons o’ guns everything starts to feel samey (M1887 is too similar to the Mossberg, the Browning is too similar to half the 9mms we’ve already got, the Makerov doesn’t have the same kind of osmosis capability the AKs have had, and I don’t even know how the Galil would get over here since the US market for it’s rather minimal from what I see). That Kal-Tec pistol is actually unusual enough that it might be worth adding, though, and since there aren’t any .45 revolvers I suppose the Webley could be introduced with some hand-waving about this model being a modded job or something (though for a .45 revolver I’d rather look for US-developed ones first like the S&W Governor).
- Reflex/Red Dot Sight (all guns; increase accuracy slightly) - Tactical Flashlight (all guns; 'a'ctivating the gun turns on/off the light)
From what I've read, a reflex/red dot would functionally be identical to a holographic sight, since both are just projections of images onto a specially-designed pane by some means, so it'd be rather redundent.

Places where they seem most logical, really, though anywhere else you might find analogues to them in the mapitems file. Machineguns in bunkers and crash sites, the Luger and Mauser and Thompson in pawn shops, the others in assorted stashes and gun shops and whatnot.

If anything, reflex and dot sights would lower moves per attack. -10%?
are of considerable mechanical intrigue… (M1887)…
The Model 1887 was of considerable mechanical intrigue; it was the very first successful repeating shotgun ever made.

That it may be, but it’s also a bit too similar to the Remington 870 (I always keep forgetting which one of it or the mossberg’s the 6-shooter) when you start to try breaking it down to game mechanics for my tastes - same ballpark barrel length and total length (ergo, volume and accuracy) same ballpark weight (and thus recoil) and only 1 shell smaller in capacity. There’s also the issue that, according to the wikipedia writeup, 1887s don’t work well with modern smokeless powders and the smokeless 1901 only comes in 10-gauge, which isn’t worth the hassle of adding for only one gun. Some companies have tried to make smokeless-capable reproductions in 12-gauge, but sales have supposedly been lackluster especially given all the pump-actions already hogging the market (like the Remington and Mossberg)

The Striker brings large shell capacities (albeit with middling performance and longer reloads) and the Pancor and CAWS bring reduced recoil through increased weight and gas operation (and fits great with the futuristic nature of the game) but when I start crunching the numbers the 1887 just doesn’t stand away from the Remington enough.

The Siaga is the 6 shot. i think.

No, the Saiga is everything but the six-shot version. Mossberg is 8, Saiga is 10.
Remington has the 6 shot magazine.

The Remington is the 6-shooter shotgun. The Mossberg is the 8-shot. The Saiga is 10-shots with the all-in-one reload.

With the 1887, I’m aware that the original doesn’t use black powder, and I’m aware that the 1901 only used 10-gauge. HOWEVER, this is a game. Much like the inventory system is, this can be abstracted.

By the way, the Jackhammer never made it to full production. Its Wikipedia writeup states that there are possibly only 2 working fully-automatic prototypes existing in the world.

woah.

well considering that a gun was made that fired a full burst before recoil was felt…
