Is To Serve Man meant to be demoralizing for cannibals?

That’s what it seems like right now. Unless it has been like that for a while and I’ve somehow not been noticing that?

Yep, it’s been that way for a while. Fairly certain it’s intended, makes sense really. I had to eat prozac just to read it with one character.

Pretty sure it should give them a morale boost. The comment in code explicitly says so.

Book update must have broken it.

Reading the book once gives 50 morale boost, reading it continuously gives 75 morale penalty. This is quite obviously a bug.

Do psychopaths get demoralized for reading it as well?

They probably do (the book has a negative fun stat, like it was supremely boring), but just like cannibals they should not.

A psychopath non-cannibal might still find it extremely boring, just kinda indifferent on the ethics of it. I wonder if a gourmand psychopath might get some minor moral benefit, because hey, good call on sauteing the paring with fava beans and a nice chianti for a human liver, all things considered.

No, not like that. It’s fun stat is -5, the only other book this “boring” is the phone book (no book gets lower than that).
The code specifically intends cannibals, psychopaths and sapiovores to have a lot of fun from reading To Serve Man, it’s just that it doesn’t happen because bug.

Yeah, I know, I forgot what board I was posting on, sorry.

It should be fixed now, thanks for reporting.
