Is it fine to update the game while trying to retain a continuing world and character?

I have heard from another that he always stops updating when he has an active character to avoid bugs or whatnot, but is it generally fine to update the game with a character from an earlier version of the game? I’m using the CDDA Game Launcher so it can automatically retain my save folder while downloading the most recent CDDA game file.

I find it’s generally fine to do so. You can always roll back to a previous version if you encounter any bugs.

To a degree, really. Over time changes accumulate and your world, generated by old standarts, starts to malfunction or just lack some things. So the life span of my chars is about 200 builds or so.
